If you were holding out hope that you could one day slide into someone's Instagram DMs using a voice message instead of text and images, it's now your time to shine. Instagram has added the ability to send voice messages in direct messages to the app.
Similar to how pretty much every other messaging app has integrated the offering, including Instagram's parent company Facebook, all you need to do to send a voice message is hold down on the microphone icon, record your message and fire it off. As TechCrunch notes, messages can be up to one minute long, stay permanently and even work in group messages.
The addition isn't without some flaws, however. I'll let Casey Neistat explain:
no. I dont want to hit the plus sign first. if i’m gonna do that I might as well type out a quick response then the whole point of a single tap reply evaporates.— Casey Neistat (@Casey) December 12, 2018
