We've been hearing plenty about the DingleBerry rooting / jailbreaking tool for the BlackBerry PlayBook, especially on the last CrackBerry Podcast where we had Chris Wade join us to tell us all a little about it and how it came about but now -- you can finally get your hands on the beta of it for yourself.
As it stands, rooting / jailbreaking your BlackBerry PlayBook alone isn't going to bring much immediate change to your PlayBook. But as more people start looking at the code to see what exactly the PlayBook internals are comprised of it, the possibilities for having the PlayBook do things it was never intended to do are no longer confined to the limited access offered by RIM out of the box.
Much like how Android devices and iPhones when rooted / jailbroken can allow full control over their respective operating systems, rooting / jailbreaking the BlackBerry PlayBook opens up those possibilities as well to a certain extent. If you're not comfortable with the rooting of your PlayBook then it is suggested that you leave well enough alone. Though, you may wish to revisit the idea once more reasons for doing so exist.
Things have been left out of this beta release-- things such as the enabling of Hulu and Netflix playback. But all that said, once more developers get this in their hands, more reasons to do it will come about -- that is if RIM doesn't swiftly patch it before things get interesting. Needless to say, it's expected RIM will have their QNX team on this ASAP.
