The holiday season is already hard enough on the wallet, but Valve is giving us a reason to dig a little deeper and empty the piggy bank as they introduce Steam Deck OLED.
The new iteration of the hugely successful Steam Deck is coming out Nov 16. It will see improvements to the screen, download speeds, and battery life. Plus there's a sick-looking, limited edition, red and black version exclusive for US and Canadian customers.
The LCD models of the original Steam Deck will slowly be phased out (and are selling at a decent discount) to make room for the OLED model. The resolution will be the same, but the OLED panel should improve contrast and color. Downloads will be quicker with Wi-Fi 6E support.
The OLED Model comes with improved battery life for up to 12 hours of gameplay
There will also be beefier storage options with the new OLED model. You can choose from 512 ($549) and 1 TB ($649) versions. Just like the previous Steam Deck, the new one will come with a Micro SD card slot so you can further expand the storage.
The battery is getting an upgrade from 40Whr to 50Whr. Depending on the settings you choose for Baldur's Gate 3 or Disney Dreamlight Valley, this could get you a few extra hours of gameplay on the go. The OLED model says it will allow 3-12 hours of play time compared to the original's 2-8.

The battery life improvements will be a welcome upgrade. For the visual screen difference, we will be curious to test this out for ourselves. All the factors combined could justify an upgrade. But there's always the option of just swapping in the $99 mod kit for a display upgrade through DeckHD.
With PlayStation Portal, new color variants for the Switch OLED, plus the power and possibilities available with iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, this year is ending strong for gaming on the go. What are your thoughts on the new OLED Steam Deck? Would you consider an upgrade? Let us know in the comments.
