Softgames brings their HTML5 instant games to BBM in beta

With BBM Games taking off in Indonesia, it was only a matter of time before we saw a similar launch elsewhere across BBM and now if you live in North America, you can head to the Discover tab in BBM and find a new games icon. Launched in beta form, the games are powered by HTML5 game provider Softgames, and there are currently around 20 to choose from, which are all free to play.

Once loaded up, you can play each game as you wish and the system will keep track of which games you played, how long you played them, what your current level and scores are and more within your own personal profile. Of course, as it's BBM, you can also share the game info with others and invite others to play with you provided they're on a platform with access to the content, which thus far appears to only be Android and iOS.

Softgames boasts a game library of over 400+ games and were a part of the recent Facebook Instant Games launch as well, and while it's not likely we'll see all their content make its way into BBM, even in beta form, it's off to a great start. You can check out some screenshots below and let us know in the comments if you've given any of the games a go as of yet. Apparently, the 20 titles will eventually be rolled out to 15 countries, including Canada, United Kingdom, India, Australia, and more.

BBM Join Forces with SOFTGAMES to Bring Instant Play HTML5 Games to Users Across 15 Countries

New BBM Games Provides Users Access to a Stunning Collection of 400+ Game Titles

Singapore – 12 December, 2016 – Creative Media Works, a stand-alone consumer-focused social networking business operating as BBM, has partnered with SOFTGAMES GmbH, the world's largest producer and distributor of HTML5 instant play, online games to power BBM Games with an impressive and engaging collection of over 400 competitive, casual, free-to-play HTML5 games that can be played and shared instantly with BBM users across iOS and Android devices.

At launch, 20 game titles will be available to users in 15 countries including: Nigeria, South Africa, Canada, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Germany, India, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

BBM Games offers users instant access through BBM Discover to a catalogue of HTML5 games with no app download required. Instead, games are loaded on-demand, providing a personalized BBM experience and the ability to share and update friends and family through direct messages in-game or via updates to the user's BBM Feeds. Users can easily revisit their favorite games, which are saved in their BBM Games profiles, at any time.

"Our vision is to help users instantly discover and engage with games they love. SOFTGAMES is thrilled to power the BBM Game Center with its stunning collection of HTML5 games. By providing the right tools and content, we are confident in fostering this business partnership, resulting in an even stronger foothold for both organizations in the industry", said Alexander Krug, Founder & CEO of SOFTGAMES.

Gaming is the second most popular activity on mobile next to "Messaging" in many markets. Four[1] out of five smartphone owners have played a game on their device and nearly half of the adults play games on a daily basis. Reports[2] showed that 90 percent of consumer's mobile time is spent in apps.

BBM is one of the largest mobile messaging applications. Since it was created in August 2005, BBM has evolved from a pure messaging application for communication (text and video) to a social eco-system unifying chat, social, commerce and services including the likes of bill payments, top-up, vouchers/coupons, news, video, shopping, travel and games.

"Users are always looking to do more on their messaging application as it is the app they use every day, multiple times a day. We continue to work with best in class partners to launch new services in order to meet the growing demands of our users across the world," said Matthew Talbot, CEO of Creative Media Works, the company which operates and runs BBM globally. "As we continuously evolve our services, we have plans for BBM Games to include many new features and game types such as chat, co-operative, and even multi-player games. Multi-player games pair particularly well with BBM because they offer another fun way to keep in touch with friends and family," added Talbot.
