Here's a great little offering from Amazon for you BlackBerry 10 users that are partial to a bit of realistic car racing. Pocket Rally is their 'free app of the day' today and it's pretty darn sweet - especially for free!
I first loaded Pocket Rally onto my BlackBerry Passport and although it played just fine I didn't feel like I was getting the best gaming experience on the square screen. (This most certainly does not apply for all games). So I grabbed my trusty Z30 and things felt a lot better - having some extra width to play with.
In terms of controls there's a bunch of options. By default you use an accelerator pedal on the right of the display and a brake on the left. You'll need to tilt the device to move left and right, but you can change this if you like. If you don't like using the tilt controls you can have a further two options. Number one is having left and right on-screen controls and here the car will auto accelerate, or secondly you can have a left/right slider bar on the screen and this time around you have the choice of having the auto accelerate on or off.
It is of course an Android game, rather than native BlackBerry 10. However, it's smooth, has beautiful graphics and is a joy to play. Let us know your thoughts?
Features include:
Highly detailed and precisely made car models, beautiful and visually convincing racing tracks located in various spectacular sceneries including mountains, coastline and ancient city ruins.
Carefully tuned car physics to be both realistic and fun. Multiple ground surface properties including tarmac, gravel, grass and ice. Each car has unique driving characteristics, and will evolve through the winning of races.6 control modes (including MOGA(TM) controllers and generic Bluetooth/OTG/USB gamepads) and 3 camera angles (in-game toggleable) to choose from.
Strength adjustable AI opponents. Up to 4 cars can race simultaneously in a game.
Introducing the Replay Mode. Performed a perfect power drift doing a hairpin turn and want to show your friends? Too occupied in the competition not able to admire your own driving technique and want to see it later? Replay Mode is the answer for you! The replay cameras are tailored for each track, recording the whole event from best angles and play it back for you.
2 main game modes to play: Challenge mode and Single Race mode. Additional cars and tracks can be unlocked by winning challenges and to be chosen in Single Race mode.
Currently there are 8 legendary rally cars, 8 tracks (including forward/reverse direction) and 65 Challenge mode events in the game, with more to come!
As usual, regional offerings sometimes vary with Amazon, so if you're seeing an alternative app please let us know in the comments?
Happy racing.

Check out PAC-MAN 256 on BlackBerry 10
He's a lovable chap is Pac-Man. I'm old enough to remember when he was first around and many, many, many years later he's still giving us some gaming pleasure. Luckily we can now do this on BlackBerry 10 smartphones rather than a 100 kilo machine like in the 'good old days'. Anyway, that's enough about me. Pac-Man 256 comes to us from the same developer who created Crossy Road a...

Free from Amazon today
As the post title suggest, Amazon have offered Cut the Rope: Time Travel for free before. That was back in April this year, so if you missed the opportunity to download it then, you may want to take a look now? Although us BlackBerry 10 users can get our own fix of Cut the Rope in BlackBerry World, you won't find the Time Travel version there. For us it's Android or nothing and...
Skyward - Don't get it from BlackBerry World!
It's pretty unheard of that we steer people away from downloading an application/game from BlackBerry World, but in this case I thought that it was well worth doing exactly that. Let me explain..... Like many BlackBerry 10 users, one of my morning rituals is to jump into BlackBerry World and see what's new. And top of the 'New Arrivals' list was a game called Skyward. Although the...
Chimpact - Free today from Amazon!
What better way than to start the working week than an awesome free game from Amazon. Chimpact is the Amazon Appstore's free app of the day today and if you've been 'Team BlackBerry' for a few years it will probably ring a bell. Cast your mind back to 2012 and the good old trusty BlackBerry PlayBook. That's when and where Chimpact first made an appearance on CrackBerry and if you...
