A new BBM beta has begun rolling out through Google Play, and if you hated the new emoji that were introduced recently, you'll be pleased to know they're no longer a thing. Based on feedback, the classic emoji have been brought back plus a few other additions have been added to improve the overall BBM experience.

What's New

  • You asked we listened: Classic BBM Emojis are back!
  • Send voice notes in groups
  • Make your timeline public
  • Improved join group flows
  • You can now send a picture or video as a file in one-to-one chat.
  • Improvements to the location permission flow for partner services
  • Deeplink directly to the BBM QR code scanner

As with any beta, it's hard to say when this one will roll out to all users, but at least you know what to expect when it does arrive. The other additions, aside from the emoji, are pretty decent as well. The ability to send a picture or video as a file should help folks somewhat overcome the BBM image and video compression complaints that have been on the rise since BBM changed how HD images and videos are sent through the app.
