If you follow a lot of accounts on Instagram, the latest feature addition rolled out by Instagram which was introduced as "a new way to personalize your feed," might be of interest to you. It's a "mute" option, and it offers you better control of what you see in your feed on Instagram.
The new feature lets you hide posts in feed from certain accounts, without unfollowing them. With this change, you can make your feed even more personalized to what matters to you.
When you mute an account, you can still see posts on their profile page and get notified about comments or posts you're tagged in. The accounts you mute will not be aware that you've muted them. You can always unmute an account to get their posts back in your feed.
It's a nice way of shutting people up without actually having to deal with the possibly awkward 'why did you unfollow me' conversations that can sometimes happen. One has to wonder why it took so long to add such a feature given you can do it on Facebook and Twitter rather easily but it's all part of Instagram's recent efforts to offer better control over what users see in their feeds. As for when you can start muting people, Instagram notes 'mute will be rolling out over the coming weeks.'
