BlackBerry 10 didn't give us many options in terms of themes and visual customization as we got with BlackBerry OS and it was something that I missed, as I'm sure a lot of others missed too. If you've moved to the BlackBerry Priv, however, you should know that Android supports theming options and there are plenty of icon packs and launchers you can try out to give your Priv the look you want.
By default, the Priv uses the BlackBerry Launcher and with that the keyboard shortcuts come too. If you use another launcher, you lose those keyboard shortcuts. However, if you just want to change up your icons you can do that without having to move away from the BlackBerry Launcher. We'll take you through the steps to get going.
How to change the icon pack on the BlackBerry Launcher on your Priv
- Download an icon pack of your choice from the Google Play Store. For this tutorial I will be using the Retrorika icon pack.
- Open the App Drawer by tapping the white circle with a 3x2 grid on the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the gear icon on the top right of the screen.
- Select Icon Pack.
- You'll then be presented with a list of icon packs you have installed, including the system icon pack. There is also a link to Google Play store if you want to search for more icon packs. Just choose the icon pack you want to use. It may seem like nothing happens but as long as the radio button is filled against the icon pack of your choosing, you can go back by hitting the back arrow or by going straight to the Homescreen by tapping the circle icon on the bottom of the screen.
Alternatively, steps 2-4 can be achieved by pressing and holding down on a blank area on the Homescreen until the screen changes and then select Icon Packs.
It's quick and simple to do and it's the best way of changing the look of your Homescreen without losing your shortcuts, if it's something you do use and rely on. For any other BlackBerry Priv tips and tricks you can visit our Priv Help Section.
