Today is 2/22/22, which has put the number TWO in my head and made me realize it has been a minute or two since I've updated everyone on CrackBerry 2.0 relaunch progress. To fix that, here's an update starting with two exciting things happening this Saturday:
1. CrackBerry Turns 15!
February 26, 2022 marks 15 years since CrackBerry.com officially launched. Seriously, where does the time fly?! If you want a trip down memory lane you can still read our original HELLO WORLD blog post and official press release. The internet remembers (almost) everything!
2. CrackBerry Website Migration
This Saturday afternoon starting around 3pm ET we're going to take our first crack at migrating the CrackBerry website from its existing servers over to its new home. If things go smooth the process should take about four hours. There will be some down time as we freeze the site and take it offline, copy over the database to its new home, and then bring it back online and restore services.
During this time you can follow me on twitter for updates as they happen. If all goes well, when the site comes back online everything will look and function the same as it is right now. We've had to update a LOT of plumbing on the backend in preparation for the new server setup, so there is a chance we may run into some glitches when we come back online (most likely minor issues with things like caching).
Please keep in mind this is not the CB 2.0 relaunch, but rather is simply completing the process of purchasing CrackBerry and getting the website moved so it will be fully operational under my ownership. Big thx to the Future PLC tech team for assisting in the process and huge props to TTK in particular who has been doing a ton of heavy lifting to get things prepped for this big day. Send good vibes and cross your fingers that everything goes smooth. If we do run into any showstopping issues, the worst-case scenario will be to revert back to the current site and try again another day.
Once we're through the migration then we can really get to work on relaunch efforts.
Other Related Updates
Beyond the fun coming this Saturday, here are a few other relevant updates in regards to CrackBerry 2.0:
Bad News: The CrackBerry BB10 App will break tomorrow
One of the backend plumbing tweaks we need to make in preparation for the website migration is to change our CloudFlare account from Enterprise to Pro. The Pro account has limitations on how many redirects can be done, and unfortunately the BB10 app was coded to support http:// urls and does not support https://. With the limit in redirects we're only going to be servinghttps:// -- which is more secure and the way it should be done -- but this means the CB BB10 app is going to break. I know this is annoying for those of you still accessing CrackBerry through the CB10 app on your BB10 device. We did look at the number of user agent requests coming through the CB10 app, and the less-than-ideal-but-tolerable news here is that there are not that many of you visiting CrackBerry this way. If you're reading this and you're one of those members affected, then the path forward is to either view CrackBerry in a web browser or change up your phone - we have CrackBerry Forums apps for Android and iOS that work well, and a slightly buggy full CrackBerry app on Android. As we relaunch CrackBerry this year, the first priority is on relaunching the website and from there we'll look at new/updated apps for Android and iOS. Thx for the understanding here.
Good News: The first CrackBerry VIP Newsletter went out and the prize for our first VIP-only giveaway is INSANELY AWESOME

Your Chance to Join the NEW Crack Team coming soon
I've been intentionally holding off on posting my CrackBerry 40 Year Vision Explained and Crack Team Call For Help posts as there has simply been a LOT of work behind the scenes that has had to get done following the change of ownership and in prepping for the website migration. With that work nearly complete, I look forward to getting these posts live soon and starting the fun part of this project and engaging with all of you who are looking to help out on CB 2.0. If you've been waiting for this to go live, thanks for the patience. It's coming soon! In March I'm hoping we start seeing new beyond-BlackBerry content hitting CrackBerry from contributors other than just me!
With that, break time is over and it's back to work. Talk 2 you later!!
