As someone who cannot survive the day without their music library, discovering new and useful ways to access media is always on my radar. There are plenty of options for BlackBerry users to choose from and each of them, from the native player to third-party apps, put their own distinct spin on how we listen to music and watch videos. Allstar Software, the folks behind Nightly Clock and Custom Shortcuts, released their own media player for BlackBerry 10 called Star Player.
What makes Star Player stand out you might ask? The reason is quite simple. The native BlackBerry player pauses video when minimized or when the device is locked. For those of us who multitask and lock their device, Star Player does no such thing and allows for background playing.
For a simple music player it does come equipped with a nice set of features to enhance your experience. Star Player is designed to not only listen to music and video on your device but also to stream and download media files from the web. Additional features include the ability to search for lyrics, add video and music shortcuts to the homescreen for one touch playing, edit videos from directly within the application, add videos as a favorite, access to the BlackBerry equalizer presets, and enable repeat. One of the options I find myself using is Night Mode to reduce screen glare at night. Once enabled, it will dim the UI and place an adjustable dark layer on the video you are watching.
There is also a comprehensive list of settings such as the option to password protect the player from prying eyes, set and manage a network proxy, adjust the player settings, manage pinned videos, choose the active frame, select the app orientation (portrait or landscape), and choose a color scheme among others.
If all these features weren't enough, the developer is generously offering 1,500 copies for free. All you have to do is follow the directions laid out below to redeem the promotion code.
- Launch BlackBerry World
- Swipe down from the top and tap on Redeem
- Enter this promo code STARPLAYERCRACKBERRY
- Tap on the green FREE button to download
If you weren't able to snag a free copy of this feature-rich music player, it is $1.99 in BlackBerry World and supports all devices running OS 10.3.1 and higher.
Please note that Star Player does not open DRM protected content.
