In addition to the announcement of the BlackBerry KEYone Bronze Edition and GSM unlocked BlackBerry Motion U.S. availability, BlackBerry fans will have at least two new BlackBerry Mobile smartphones to look forward to in 2018. The finer details, for now, are being kept under wraps but Alain Lejeune, Global General Manager for BlackBerry Mobile, was clear in the messaging.
"It has been less than one year since we formally introduced the world to our all-new BlackBerry smartphones and we've seen very strong renewed interest thanks to devices like BlackBerry KEYone and BlackBerry Motion," said Alain Lejeune, Global General Manager for BlackBerry Mobile. "With new BlackBerry smartphones from TCL Communication now available in over 50 countries around the world, we have a solid foundation to continue building upon our portfolio in the new year. This means customers can expect to see at least two new BlackBerry smartphones from us later this year."
I don't think it's any stretch of the imagination to expect some sort of QWERTY follow-up to the BlackBerry KEYone in 2018. A yet to be revealed device has appeared on Geekbench already sporting a physical keyboard, a Snapdragon 660 as well as 6GB of RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo, which some have already dubbed the KEYtwo. The second device on tap is anyone's guess and realistically could be another QWERTY or full-touch based on earlier rumors that have been floated about but have yet to materialize. Either way, two new BlackBerry Mobile smartphones are coming in 2018.
In interviews later given to press at CES 2018, Gareth Hurn, BlackBerry Mobile, Global Head of Device Portfolio confirmed both devices will be new keyboard based designs.
