Disney Mobile Magic App on the Way for Verizon Customers

I have to say I saw this and definitely think its pretty cool. My mother would have loved to have had this years ago (and I'm sure my father would have hated it). I remember all my trips to Disney World as a kid, running around getting lost and waiting in endless lines for rides and attractions. Disney has just announced their Mobile Magic application that will soon be hitting Verizon's application center, and should make a Disney trip much, much smoother. The Disney app lets you view information on both Disney theme parks. You will be able to view your location in the park using the device GPS, as well as attraction wait times. There will be maps of the park and also character greeting and restaurant information. Overall this is shaping up to be one very cool and unique application. No word of the official launch date or pricing, but it will pop up in the Verizon application center in the near future. Thanks to Doug for sending this in!

Kanye West Loves His BlackBerry... And Pays The Price!

If only Kanye would have said the words I Love My BlackBerry before Spike Jonze slapped him for not being able to put away his Curve, this could have been a real contender in our I Love My BlackBerry video contest. This is a funny behind the scenes clip and is a bit of good viral marketing for their latest video We Were Once a Fairytale, but what I want to know is... has something like this has ever happened to you for real? I can't be the only one out there who's had to endure a slap or two for paying more attention to the BB than the person you're talking to (seriously hope the gf doesn't read this post or I'll have to take one more).

Podcast Episode 043: BlackBerry Storm2 Launch Day

It has been a busy few weeks in the BlackBerry World, and somehow between all of the stuff going on in the blogs we fell of our podcast routine (yet again). The BlackBerry Storm2 went on sale today, so we took the event as a reason to fire up Skype and get a CrackBerry podcast recorded. With the BlackBerry Developer Conference coming up soon, the month of November should be busy with podcasts and more than make up for the dry spell. Enjoy the show! We were a bit rusty but we managed to get through the big news of the day and then some.

iluvmybb finalist - The BlackBerry Addict

Entry #35 - The BlackBerry Addict | View All Contest Video Submissions >>

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

* keep in mind we're not announcing the ten finalists in any particular order - 1 more to come! *

For many readers, watching our ninth finalist in the I Love My BlackBerry contest will be like looking in the mirror. CrackBerry.com's tag line is The #1 Site for BlackBerry Users (& Abusers!) and Greg Stee's entry does a great job of portraying just what we mean by Abuser. The video was shot in Brooklyn, NY and stars Aldous Davidson as the BlackBerry Addict and Chris Prine as the ignored roommate. Too funny! Great Work.

ONLY ONE MORE FINALIST LEFT TO BE ANNOUNCED! The tough thing about narrowing 80 entries down to 10 finalists is that no matter what, there's going to be 70 ticked off entries out there. Our judges took a LOT of time in making their selections, and I think they've done a pretty bang up job. Having now personally watched all of the videos a few times each and seeing soo many awesome vids,  I'm sure there's going to be a few comments about "this one should have made it instead of that one" and vice versa. Hopefully we won't see that, and don't forget, once the finalists have all been announced we're going to be doing some bonus round posts featuring more outstanding videos.

PRIZES FOR EVERYONE: Also, we've round up a few great prizes that are going to be given to ALL 80 entries. Everybody who submitted a video, finalist or not, is going to receive one year free of both Slacker Radio Plus and SMRTGUARD plus some other goodies we'll announce later. BIG thanks to our sponsors.

We've checked out Wrath a few times in the past. I just got word that the fast action retro shooter has undergone an extensive update, and v2.0. is now available. The game has come a long way from the initial release with additions such as new boss fights, upgraded graphics and support for BlackBerry play lists that allow you to use your own music for the sound track. Here is a list of changes for the recent update:

  • Add 3 levels of difficulty EASY, MEDIUM and HARD. Medium and hard need to be unlocked.
  • Playing Medium or Hard allows you to by-pass earlier Waves when you start.
  • Added support to save/resume a game between shutdown/reboots.
  • Converted all the buttons from BlackBerry style to custom art.
  • Added a firing mode that dual fires forward and back.
  • Made the player's ship move faster.
  • Default firing mode is set to dual fire when above level 5.
  • After level 5, the dual fire pickups switch to the dual front back firing.
  • Game handles switching to another application better.

BlackBerry Storm2 launch day is here and by now many are picking up their devices from retail locations. Well, you all know how we do it here at CrackBerry when a new device launches. BlackBerry Tour2 Video First Look!

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

Today we celebrate the launch of the BlackBerry Storm2. So in true CrackBerry fashion, it's only right that we give you a glimpse of another upcoming BlackBerry Smartphone...

The BlackBerry Tour2, codenamed BlackBerry "essex" in its pre-release development, is essentially the BlackBerry Tour with two major updates: WiFi and the optical trackpad. Arguably these should have been included back on the original BlackBerry Tour, but we think simply due to the timing lacked both (Tour was finalized for production before trackpad was slated to get introduced, and before VZW went from not wanting WiFi to wanting it). The BlackBerry Tour2 (device model 9650 I would logically assume) packs both of these into the Tour's standard form factor and hardware. All other specs/features between the two devices appear to be identical at first look, with the exception that the green call key is now flipped -- as we've seen with other new devices -- and the bottom row of keys on the keyboard are slightly less tall, more akin to the Bold 9700. The hardware in this video is the Sprint version, but obviously there will be a Verizon version too with a slightly different look.

We originally were told the release date for the BlackBerry Tour2 would be sometime in late January/February of 2010, but are now hearing production of these is ramping up literally as you read this. I think both RIM and Verizon would like to get the BlackBerry Tour2 into retail channels in time for the holidays and to get it on Verizon's latest BOGO offering before it comes to an end. Keep your fingers crossed. You might not see it until the new year, but what a present it would be if it was here for Christmas!

Verizon BlackBerry Storm2 Commercial!

bbOSalert - Instant Notification Of Leaked, Official And Hybrid Firmware Direct On Your BlackBerry Smartphone!

bbOSalert has been in beta for a while now and finally, after having extensively testing the application is now available for purchase. In case you are unaware of what exactly bbOSalert is, a quick look at the application description explains it in the best manner possible.

Is your F5 button about to pop off of your keyboard? Or even worse, already gone? Your solution to staying up all night waiting for a new OS to leak is here. bbOSalert is a new application for BlackBerry devices that alerts you when a new OS has been posted on the internet. Once installed onto your device you can select which devices you wish to be alerted about and choose between leaked OS, official OS or both, also includes hybrids.

How does it work? Once an OS is posted on a site for download an alert will be sent out to whom ever has subscribed to that device. Along with the alert you will be notified of the version and where OS was posted (site wise) for you to download.

Having used the application for the past two weeks now I have to say if you are a person who needs to know what OS has leaked and when -- this is the app for you. Within seconds of an OS post on any BlackBerry site you are notified by pop up on your device of its availability. Now getting this isn't nearly as fun as sitting on CrackBerry all night waiting for a leak, but it's definitely a clever idea. And we know all you CrackBerry addicts out there will probably do both anyways! bbOSalert is available now for only $2.00 and supports all devices OS 4.2 and up.

BlackBerry Storm2 Cases

Looking for your first case or skin for the BlackBerry BlackBerry Storm2? Here's Your Chance to Win One! Just leave a comment to this post letting us know which form of protection (case, skin, shield, etc.) you plan to buy first for your new BlackBerry Storm2...

Cases and Skins for the BlackBerry Storm2

Back on October 19th, shortly after the BlackBerry Storm2 was announced, we ran a post on the blogs asking soon-to-be BlackBerry Storm2 owners what the first type of BlackBerry Storm2 accessory they would buy would be: some form protection, a hands-free accessory, charger, spare battery, etc.

70% of respondents to that poll voted that a cases for the BlackBerry Storm2 (or some other form of protection) be the first item they take care of (wow!). From there, it only makes sense that we follow up and find out exactly which type of offering be the most popular. These days there are many ways in which one can protect their BlackBerry model from scratches, bumps and drops, each offering their own pros and cons compared to the other.

BlackBerry Storm2 9520 Official 5.0 OS Update For Vodafone Users

* Update from Kevin - Oops.. kind of a dumb post here (blame Bla1ze on a lack of sleep.... and me too for not catching it immediately! I thought he meant 9500 and not 9520 and got excited for everybody! lol). The Storm2 from Vodafone actually ships with this firmware version. This is only news / an official upgrade to people who were running earlier pre-release versions of the Storm2 from Vodafone, which would be a small handful.  No Storm 9500 users, there isn't an update for you yet. It even sounds like it could be 2010 now before one is available to you. :( Sorry for the confusion here!!!

Just in case any BlackBerry Storm 9520 users were feeling a little left out in regards to the OS 5.0 release on Verizon. Vodafone has started pushing OS 5.0.0.306 through to customers via BlackBerry Desktop Manager since yesterday and while it's only a Desktop Manager install at this time the post of the installable file has to come soon. If you are a Vodafone customer you can grab the update now and if you're not, just sit tight till the install file shows up for download.
