Mobile Auction Manager for eBay

Its no secret that there are virtually no eBay applications for BlackBerry. Well PB Mobile Soft has taken note and released Mobile Auction Manager for eBay. The app lets you check auctions, find items, bid and even get outbid alerts. You need to sign up with Mobile Auction Manager on the web to authorize the app with your eBay account, but after that you're good to go. Its not the best looking UI (something in 'eBay colors' would have looked better) but this could prove an invaluable tool for loads of users. I personally used to be on eBay all the time, and would have loved an app like this. Mobile Auction Manager is available in the CrackBerry App Store for $2.50 through the end of the month.

iluvmybb shout out - CSI Waterloo

Entry #67 - CSI Waterloo | View All Contest Video Submissions >>

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

* Finalist Voting Now On - Be sure to Vote for your Favorite Video Entry!! *

With the finalists all announced in the I Love My BlackBerry video contest and voting now open, it's time for us to highlight on the blogs some of the other notable entries that were submitted. Over the next few days we'll run these bonus round faves in the blogs. While all entries in the contest are going to receive a free year of SmrtGuard and Slacker Radio Plus service, all of the shout outs are also going to get a free Coveroo for their BlackBerry! There'll be a lot of shout outs (in no particular order), so stay tuned!

My first shout out goes to entry #67 - CSI Waterloo! This one was actually put together by two of our hardworking CrackBerry Twelpers, @michaelwpg and @Shao128. The intro on this one is stellar and I couldn't help but appreciate the CrackBerry Kevin portrait they worked into the vid (kinda creepy actually! lol). Great work guys. And I'm posting this one first in the shout outs because Shao, who also develops BlackBerry Apps via ShaoSoft, has offered up one of his apps for free to everybody who submitted a video in the contest. What a nice guy! We'll be sending out emails next week to all who participated. Wicked! That's it.... sit back and enjoy the show!

Rogers Reduces Prices On BlackBerry Bold 9000, BlackBerry Curve 8900 And BlackBerry Curve 8520.

Amidst all the BlackBerry 9700 news some other changes did happen at Rogers the other day. Rogers has since reduced the pricing on some of their other BlackBerry offerings such as the BlackBerry Bold 9000, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 and the BlackBerry Curve 8520. Often times when a new BlackBerry such as the 9700 comes people may have no interest in that device. If you're one of those people you may see it as the time to get a BlackBerry you do want at a discounted price.

All the mentioned devices are still great and no one out there should have to worry about them being obsolete for a little while yet. This would be a great time to grab a new device on the cheap and still have some of the best devices BlackBerry offers.

The BlackBerry Bold 9000 is now going for $99.99 in black or white and the BlackBerry Curve 8900 is now set at a mere $79.99, while the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is at what it should have been released at, being $49.99. All based on 3/yr long contracts with Rogers, of course.

Are You Having Problems With Your BlackBerry Messenger Remote Back Up And Avatars?!?

After reviewing the forums for the past few days, I noticed a lot of users were having issues with their BlackBerry Messenger which was also noticed by DangermouseUK. The issues seen in this case is that avatars and remote back up of BlackBerry Messenger contacts is not correctly working. This current situation appears to be affecting not only BIS users but BES users as well.

From the information gathered, it seems the issues started as of Friday and have not been corrected since then. Not only are BIS and BES users not able to sync avatars you can't register a new email, restore a backup remotely, and even restoring using a backup file from the PC using device switch or the feature built into messenger, will NOT initiate a PIN switch on RIM servers.

This is a confirmed issue and from the information, it does appear that the servers designed to support these features are not responding to the requests to perform the actions mentioned. So I ask you all, anyone having issues with remote back up of BBM contacts? Maybe you have some people on your list who once had avatars and now, do not? Let us know in the comments if you're affected by this.

Verizon Ad Offers Free BlackBerry Curve ... Running Palm OS?

I always crack up when I see things like this. Lila sent in this ad from Verizon offering a free BlackBerry Curve, the only issue is that the Curve is running Palm OS. We've seen this a few times in the past, there was a messed up Radio Shack ad that showed WinMo running on a BlackBerry, and this one that had the BlackBerry OS running on a Nokia E71. You really think someone would catch these before they went to print. Thanks Lila for sending this in!

BlackBerry 101: Configure Your BlackBerry as an IP Modem Using Desktop Manager

This 101 comes courtesy of probigeorge11 and michaelwpg.

Alright children, settle down, class is now in session. As of the update to version 5.0.1, we now have the ability to configure our BlackBerry as an IP Modem for tethering. Today's lesson will be based around how to set up your BlackBerry as an IP Modem, using the new version of Desktop Manager, referred to as DM for the purposes of this lesson.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: *Tethering is a service offered by your carrier. Tethering without a tethering plan can incur large costs. Make sure you consult with your carrier before using your BlackBerry as a modem*

We will attempt to make this as simple and straightforward as possible, walking through step by step.

ActionPad for BlackBerry

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to rely on my BlackBerrys memo pad application. Well maybe I could, but that’s beside the point. It’s always there to help you jot quick, yet important, information down and offers easy accessibility. It sure beats scrounging for scraps of paper, or even an actual memo pad to write on. I also pity the person who has to decipher my handwriting (I’m sure my signature has been mistaken for a prescription on many occasions). Despite it’s usefulness for capturing info on the go, its functionality is somewhat limited. As much as we love our BlackBerrys, we may find ourselves saying “Wouldn’t it be great if *insert application name* could do…” at times.

ActionPad is a beefier, meatier version of your native MemoPad. In other words, it serves up the functionality of MemoPad, with a side dish of features. These features include: hot keys, categories, desktop synchronization and memo encryption. Let’s see you do that with a pad of yellow sticky paper. Read on for more.

Review: Redfly Mobile Companion - Use Your BlackBerry Smartphone as a Laptop

Contest: Win a Redfly Mobile Companion for BlackBerry! Details Below..

If you're on the go and find yourself stuck in airports, on planes or in hotel rooms you know how valuable your BlackBerry can be to get work done. Be it emailing, finishing up a presentation or various other tasks, we like to use every spare minute to get things done. Sometimes the keyboard and small screen can bring your productivity down, and lets face it, not everyone has a laptop or netbook to cart around. Wifi isn't always available, and sometimes tethering isn't an option. All these added together can make for some crappy traveling and even less productivity. Enter Redfly from Celio Corp. Redfly carries the tagline "Use Your Smartphone Like A Laptop" and you can do just that. The unit itself is smaller than a netbook which makes for extreme portability, and you just plug in your device (or jump on via Bluetooth) and you're up and running. You're BlackBerry screen is instantly transported to the Redfly's 7 or 8 inch screen and you have a full QWERTY keyboard at your disposal. Now you can use the power of your BlackBerry as a laptop. Email, BlackBerry Messenger, MemoPad, Calendar and more are all at your disposal. Lets start from the beginning and take a look at the Redfly unit and all of its functions.
