Overall a good variety this week, and as always if you didn't win this time, don't give up hope as more contests are on the way. Congrats to all the winners!

BlackBerry Bold 9700 Arriving in AT&T Stores

It looks like some AT&T stores have already started receiving Bold 9700 units. The device is already available for business customers, and should be widely available on November 22nd. The Bold 9700 is one of the most anticipated devices to date, and in the words of Ferris Bueller "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up". If you haven't already grabbed one up from T-Mobile, then you only have another week or so to wait so hang in there.

If you're looking to get ahead of the game, it appears as if AT&T has made the 9700 OS available for download as well. We saw a similar situation when the Rogers OS popped up in the forums before the device had launched, but this time the OS is officially available from a carrier site. The OS is which is and older version than both the Rogers and T-Mobile devices.

Colorbeat Game for BlackBerry Smartphones

I came across this game this morning, and after playing for way too long I have to say it is overly addicting. Colorbeat is a crazy Brickbreaker/Bejweled/Snood mix where you try to elimate the line of balls on the top of the screen. The catch is that the "bouncing" ball swaps colors with a ball it comes in contact with, making it harder to know what will happen. The balls build up and move down the screen, and if you don't knock them off quick enough, the game ends when they hit the bottom. Overall Colorbeat is a very cool Brickbreaker alternative. It is available for all devices running OS 4.5 or higher. Colorbeat is on sale in the CrackBerry App Store through November 30th for $1.99.

Review: Urbanspoon for BlackBerry Smartphones

Where I used to live, the choices for dining were slim. It’s not always a bad thing; every Monday night was wing night at our favourite hang out. Since I moved to the West Coast, there’s almost too many to choose from!  Part of me wants to stick to familiar places, another part says to venture out and see what else is out there, still another part says to stop going out so much and save the money for a new BlackBerry. After trying to figure out what everyone feels like having to eat, there’s still the decision between the usual place or a new one. At this point, someone may get fed up and decide to order a pizza. Before you surrender to the salivating scent of pepperoni and cheese, grab a spoon…Urbanspoon that is.

At the BlackBerry Developer Conference 2009, Kevin gave us the heads up on Urbanspoon. The application helps you decide where to dine, based on the neighbourhood, cuisine and your budget. We’ve seen it in commercials featuring the ” SighPhone”, but now we users and abusers have the opportunity to search for places to stuff our faces. Grab a napkin and read on!

DevCon 2009: Enter the RIM Matrix - Apps Downloaded From BlackBerry App World in Real Time!

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

Going through the leftover footage we grabbed during the BlackBerry Developer Conference last week in San Francisco, I stumbled upon the above clip I recorded in the hallways of the conference area. It's pretty geeky cool - RIM had a flat screen set up with what I dubbed the "BlackBerry Matrix."

The monitor showed the logos for apps being downloaded from BlackBerry App World in real time (though it may have been more like real time plus a one minute delay). It was mesmerizing. What you don't see in the video above is that if I just would have turned around for a second, the camera would have caught about 20 people huddled around the monitor just staring at the screen for minutes on end. The BlackBerry Matrix had us.

Celebrity BlackBerry Sighting: Homer Simpson Rockin' A BlackBerry 7230

Ok, so maybe it's not really a celebrity BlackBerry sighting in the traditional sense, but it is a sure sign that BlackBerry Smartphones have gone mainstream, now even reaching that little 'ole famous town called Springfield. Last night on the Simpsons, Homer was spotted using a BlackBerry 7230 (or is that a 7290?!) after having been given a new position at work. I guess enterprises in cartoon land are still issuing "Old Blue" out to their users. Personally if I was Homer, I'd have asked for an upgrade to a brand spank'n new BlackBerry Bold 9700. More power, 3G and the 9700's battery life is still awesome.

I wonder what the smartphone of choice for those annoying neighbors over in Shelbyville is?

BlackBerry Developer Conference 2009: Looking Back At Year II Through The Eyes of a Developer

Yes, that's a BlackBerry Tour made out of Lego Building Blocks!

The second-annual BlackBerry Developer Conference is now a part of RIM history. Following last year's DevCon, we had Sharad Mohan, Co-Founder and CEO of Gym Technik, review the first-ever BBDC from his point of view as a new BlackBerry developer. This year, we asked Trevor Chong, Product Director of Gym Technik, to follow up with us on his four days of DevCon 2009 and share his thoughts with everyone by answering a few of our questions. To me, GymTechnik is a perfect example of who RIM targets with an event like the BlackBerry Developer Conference -- young guys, passionate about their product/service and excited at the opportunity in the mobile space and potential developing for BlackBerry has to offer -- who better to review DevCon?! So without further ado, let's turn it over to Trevor!

BlackBerry Developer Conference - Year II in Review
by Trevor Chong, Product Director of Gym Technik

As you know, we have been running our free fitness tracking service to all our members the past year. We would like to thank our users, our Ace and Beta members, and RIM for their great support this past year. We look forward to continue serving the BlackBerry community.

T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700 Now Available For Purchase!!!

Attention all T-Mobile users! The time has finally come... The first T-Mobile 3G BlackBerry is now available for purchase at But wait... is it the 8900, or the 9700. Seems as if T-Mobile dropped the ball and used the wrong photo on the website. Big oops T-Mobile!

Pricing for the new BlackBerry Bold is very reasonable at $199.99 on the new Even More plan, or at $449.99 on the Even More Plus plan. For those wondering why the difference in pricing, here is the reason:

Two types of plans, two ways to save.

Even More Plans come with a 2 Year Contract and feature great phone discounts, so your upfront costs are lower.

Even More Plus Plans have no annual contract and currently provide our best monthly rate plan pricing. So you pay for your phone upfront, but the lower monthly plan costs save you money over time.

So there you have it, hurry up and go place your order. Drop us a note and let us know how the ordering goes. Hopefully T-Mobile won't have any problems fulfilling the orders. I have a feeling this will be a very hot selling device for T-Mobile.

Also be sure to check out CrackBerry's extensive reviews on the T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700.

Making Use Of The BlackBerry Developer Issue Tracker

Back during WES 2009, Research In Motion launched a new tool for developers to make use of in order to help them track bugs in BlackBerry development tools. In the time since then, the BlackBerry developer issue tracker has seen some significant growth and has helped RIM learn more about where they need to be focusing attention when it comes to correcting issues.

With the BlackBerry developers conference wrapped up now, I figured it would be a good time to re-visit the issue trackers purpose and how it can help developers and users alike. After signing up for a developer zone account you then have access to all the information the tracker holds. Having an issue with the new BlackBerry Widget SDK? The developer tracker would be the place to report such issues. Need to check and see if a reported issue has been addressed and corrected? Logging into the developer tracker would be the spot to look.

Tools like the issue tracker are a great way to report and track any issues you may come across, the only caveat to this type of system is that it depends on users and developers involvement to make it useful. If developers do not share the bugs they come across it makes it rather difficult to fix the unknown. Getting involved is key here, so if you are a BlackBerry developer check out the issue tracker and report what you find that needs fixing.

TwitterBerry To Grow Beyond Twitter - Becomes OpenBeak

Long lasting Twitter client TwitterBerry has been rebranded OpenBeak. The new title allows the app to grow beyond the Twitter platform in the future and expand to other areas. Twitterberry is one of the most well known Twitter clients for BlackBerry, but has been overshadowed as of late with the influx of new clients. Perhaps OpenBeak will step up with some new features that will get it back in the running. Current TwitterBerry users will be prompted to upgrade to OpenBeak, but if you're looking to try it out for the first time, head to from your device to give it a whirl.
