Leaked: OS for the BlackBerry Storm2 9520

It's been a while since the BlackBerry 9520 saw any love, so I'm sure a lot of you out there are happy to see OS pop up over at BBLeaks today. Grab your cables and fire up apploader or desktop manager to get started. Remember folks it's a leak, not currently an official OS, take caution. Disclaimers apply as always. Let us know in the comments any changes you see!

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

Don't Disturb Me! - The ultimate SMS firewall for BlackBerry!

Unwanted SMS messages are annoying. It seems like every week I get a new one, promising I have won something, or that my debt can easily be erased. Sure it's easy enough to just delete the message and forget about it, but what if you could eliminate it from ever hitting your device?

This is where Don't Disturb Me! (DDM) from Mobile4Life comes in. This app is the ultimate firewall for your BlackBerry. With DDM you can block SMS messages by sender's number or by keyword, so you don't have to receive them. You also have options for being notified when a message has been blocked, and you can configure how the message is handled from there. This is great if you get a lot of spam or harassing SMS messages.

  • Block SMS by sender's number or number prefix.
  • Block SMS by user defined keywords.
  • Use "safe sender" list to ensure your important sms will not be blocked.
  • Use password to protect DDM's setting
  • Backup number/keyword/safe sender list to SD card or restore from SD card.
  • Display block indictor and number of sms blocked on top of screen.
  • Configurable sound/vibrate/led notification when blocked a SMS or totally key silent.
  • View detailed infomation of blocked SMS and reply it.

You can pick up Don't Disturb Me in the CrackBerry store for $2.99 until September 30th when it returns to the normal price of $3.99. A free trial (50 blocked messages) is also available if you prefer to try before you buy.

AT&T announces BlackBerry Curve 3G and BlackBerry Pearl 3G as coming soon

After a long wait, AT&T has finally made it public information that they will indeed be offering the BlackBerry Pearl 3G and the BlackBerry Curve 3G. Why exactly, it took AT&T so long to add the Pearl 3G to their line up we're still not really certain as of yet. One guess is that they were waiting for BlackBerry 6 to get to a more ready stage and then make the device available and now, in that time the BlackBerry Curve 3G has also become available. With offering both those and the BlackBerry Torch it gives AT&T a strong BlackBerry lines up and when BlackBerry 6 rolls out for them all, it should put them in line to be the carrier with the most BlackBerry 6 capable devices. Keep reading for the full press release announcement.

BBM Me Up by Riley adds itself to the BBM song rotation

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

The latest email to the tip line let us know that we have yet another BBM song to add to the CrackBerry playlist. This one is by Riley and called BBM Me Up. All about BBM all the time -- the way it should be. This one is pretty good - I'm not sure I like it as much as Ping!!! Me Baby but it gets the job done. You have to hand it to RIM too - they brought out Riz to the DevCon party last night to sing Ping!!! Me Baby live.

It seems like there is a neverending supply of BBM songs and I had no idea there were so many out there. Give it a listen and drop a comment with your thoughts! Thanks Mike!

Say you're looking to determine the exact calendar date of your favorite holiday or sporting event. Or perhaps you're scrambling to remember how many days are left until your next birthday or anniversary celebration. Wouldn't it be great if there was an easy way to import this information directly into your BlackBerry Calendar? If that sounds useful to you then Mobatech's Datepedia is your app.

Datepedia version 1.0 has already been out for a few years and was previously reviewed by Ryan Blundell back in 2008. And now, almost two years later, Mobatech is ready to release version 2.0 (see press release) and got an exclusive first look!

Is ShopSavvy in Our Future?

ShopSavvy, the popular Android/iPhone/Windows 7 Phone app, should be coming soon to a BlackBerry near you. ShopSavvy is a barcode reading application - and much more. Basically, you scan a barcode, and ShopSavvy gives you information about the product. In the Android and iPhone versions, users get access to product reviews and local and online pricing. The few BlackBerry scanner apps don't include local, brick-and-mortar stores.

Alex Muse at Big in Japan has let it slip that they've finally completed the back-end work for their BlackBerry scanner. One truly remarkable feat they've accomplished is live barcode scanning. Currently, BB scanners take a picture and analyze it, looking for a barcode. ShopSavvy will be different. Working with live video coming from the camera, the app will focus and scan the barcode automatically. For folks like me who tire of having to take and re-take pictures of barcodes just to get the scanner to work, live scanning is almost a miracle.

The BlackBerry program libraries for the scanner are complete. All that is lacking is the user interface (what most people would call the actual application) to introduce ShopSavvy to the BlackBerry world. With more than six million users and around 1.3 million scans each day, ShopSavvy has a wide base of users. Word on the street is that Big in Japan is looking for a developer to build the BlackBerry UI. Any takers?

Review: VQ Mileage Tracker for BlackBerry

For the majority of us, we still rely on gas to make us go (and no I’m not talking about bodily functions). Regardless if you are a road warrior, or a weekend sports parent, you want to keep an eye on your gas tank, as well as your mileage. Now that I think of it, you probably want to add up all of your travelling expenses; you do have to figure in your morning coffee right? Every expense adds up, sometimes even faster than the pile of fast food garbage in your backseat. The next thing you know, your office car pool, or family trip will include a wagon tied to a bicycle. Whether you need to report your expenses to your boss, or to your other half, your BlackBerry has it covered.

Let’s take a look at an application that offers to keep its grip at 10 and 2 on your mileage and expenses; VQ Mileage Tracker. This application can automatically track the mileage you travel and maintain a record of your expenses for future reporting. Do me a favour and tell those kids to settle down back there. I’ll turn this BlackBerry around and they’ll be no review for anyone!

BlackBerry PlayBook price?!

What will the BlackBerry PlayBook price be? Vote in our poll and leave a comment with your thoughts!

How much will the BlackBerry PlayBook cost?customer surveys

The BlackBerry PlayBook announcement totally wowed us yesterday and changed a lot of things on the BlackBerry front. There was lots of talk on specs and everyone wants to get their hands on one, but the real question we're left wondering is what will the price be? There was no talk on price at all, and even the press release left us in the dark. There was a note about the release date of "early 2011" and we know a 3G version will be launching that won't be subsidized by the carriers so it will be an outright price. But there was no answer to the key question every wants to know - how much will the BlackBerry PlayBook cost?? Cast your vote in the poll and weigh in with your thoughts in the comments.

Video Hands-On of BlackBerry 6 Running on the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Pearl 3G and Curve 9300!!

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

We've seen BlackBerry 6 leak already for the Bold 9650 and Curve 9330 onto the interwebs. We're still waiting to see it leak (or get officially announced) for the Bold 9700, Pearl 3G and Curve 9300. Hopefully it won't be long now, as RIM was showing BB6 off on these devices at the Opening Reception at the BlackBerry Developer Conference 2010. Note - free booze was served at this event so it's not quite as solid of a BlackBerry 6 first look as we did at the Torch launch, but if you own one of these devices and are waiting on BlackBerry 6 for it you'll want to watch!
