Mike Lazaridis confirms RIM has plans for tablets to come in different sizes

Research In Motion Co-CEO, Mike Lazaridis has just hit the stage at the All Things D: Dive Into Mobile conference and already he has confirmed to Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher that Research In Motion has plans to offer tablets in different sizes. When questioned regarding the current size of the BlackBerry PlayBook Mike Lazaridis noted, "We’ve got different sizes potentially coming". In addition to the size of the PlayBook being questioned, Lazridis was also questioned when the QNX operating system would be available for BlackBerry smartphones. Mike's reply still leaves us wondering when exactly but gives us an idea of what they are waiting for. Lazaridis stated when Research In Motions moves BlackBerry smartphones to dual core systems; we will then see the QNX operating system arrive and also noted the "next generation of BlackBerry smartphones will be great". We'll have more as the updates continue as well as video as soon as we can but, for now you can view the live blog over at the All things D website.

BlackBerry Bold 9780 Review

Following up on our Unboxing and First Impressions, I have been using the BlackBerry Bold 9780 as my main smartphone for the past few weeks. And you know what that means... I now have a lot to say on the newest Bold from Research In Motion. Most of it is positive, afterall, the Bold 9700 was already an awesome device so one would only expect its successor to be even awesomer. But it's not all positive. Surprising to me, I actually found myself having some mixed feelings towards the BlackBerry 6 experience on the touchscreen-less Bold 9780. There have even been a few times when I wished I could downgrade the 9780 to run on OS 5.0 again (I know it sounds crazy, but I'm just being honest - you'll have to read the full review to find out why).

The existence of the BlackBerry Bold 9780 has also created a couple of burning questions for existing and new BlackBerry users out there. I've been getting literally the same two questions via twitter (@crackberrykevin) daily since the device was announced. Is it worth upgrading my BlackBerry Bold 9700 to the Bold 9780? Should I get the Torch or the Bold 9780?

It's December and the holidays are almost here, so grab yourself an eggnog, kick back and keep reading and I'll answer these questions and unload all the nitty gritty details on the BlackBerry Bold 9780.

Leaked: OS 6.0.0.380 for the BlackBerry Curve 9300

Seems like history repeats itself when it comes to OS leaks. Just like last time a 9700 OS leak dropped, we now have the exact same OS for the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300. Again, back up your data folks and let us know how this one works out for you all. Enjoy!

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

BlackBerry Storm 3 9570 found in Best Buy's Mobile Genie system

We have seen hardware photos, about screens showing it running BlackBerry 6 and even rumors of the device being cancelled. But now the BlackBerry 9570 (Storm 3) has made it's way into the Best Buy Mobile Genie system. Mobile Genie is used for the transfer of contacts between devices when purchasing a new phone. Just being in this system obviously doesn't prove that the device is actually going to be released, but hey, you never know. I'm sure just seeing the Storm 3 pop up anywhere gives you Storm lovers some hope :-)

How to uninstall themes on your BlackBerry smartphone

Themes are a great way to give your BlackBerry experience a bit of variety.  Many themes even improve upon the usefulness of the home screen and navigation.  While it's nice to have a large selection of themes to choose from, themes do take up application memory.  Too many themes and you might find your smartphone running sluggishly.  Worse yet, you could find that emails and other messages start "disappearing" as memory space becomes scarce.

Changing and even deleting themes isn't difficult; you just need to know where to look.

BlackBerry App World now accepting apps for BlackBerry PlayBook

It was announced today that BlackBerry App World will now be accepting applications designed for the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook. RIM has opened the vendor portal for developers to start submitting their PlayBook applications. As a bit of incentive, any developer who submits an approved app will be eligible to receive a free BlackBerry PlayBook upon its North American release.

"Interest and momentum behind the BlackBerry PlayBook continues to build and we are thrilled with the positive response from both the developer community and our customers. With its groundbreaking performance and robust support for industry standard development tools, the BlackBerry PlayBook provides an exceptional platform that appeals to a wide range of mobile app developers, including Adobe(R) AIR(R) and Flash(R) developers, HTML web developers, corporate developers and application hobbyists," said Tyler Lessard, VP Global Alliances & Developer Relations at Research In Motion. "We are very pleased to be working with developers in advance of the product launch and the opening of BlackBerry App World to accept BlackBerry PlayBook apps is an important next step."

Yet another great sign that plenty of good is to come from the PlayBook release. Having developers get in on apps early means we'll have lots of good stuff to play with when we finally get our hands on a PlayBook. Keep reading for the full press release.

The app automatically populates all of your native, and 3rd party application, and allows you to password protect them with a simple click.

EveryLock is a very nice application for those who like to keep their information private. It is compatible with all devices running OS 4.6 and up, including BlackBerry 6.

When it comes to deciding on Christmas presents for parents, a funny thing happens; it’s either incredibly easy or ridiculously difficult. The trend seems to now lean towards the latter, ever since I moved provinces away. I remember it being so easy when I was a kid; plaid button up shirts for Dad and something with pansies for Mom. Times are different and I think parents are now looking for the cool toys too, though I will treasure anything my son gives me. Check out some apps and accessories that should make your geeky Mom or Dad happy.

New BlackBerry 6 device simulators now available for the Bold 9650 and Curve 3G 9330

While it may not mean much to many folks in terms of usefulness, BlackBerry developers out there can now download the new BlackBerry 6 device simulators for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330. One could speculate that with their release, a BlackBerry 6 OS release for the same devices cannot be that far off but we don't really want to create any false hope for anyone. Though, deep down we really do hope that's exactly what it means. If you're a developer or just want to poke around in the device simulators you can grab them now from the developers resource page.
