Leaked: OS For The BlackBerry Style 9670

BlackBerry Style owners are seeing some love today. OS is now available for download although, it is a leaked version so you all know what to do with it. Make sure you run a backup of your device first and let us all know in the comments or in the forums how it's working out for you.

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

When it comes to deciding on Christmas presents for parents, a funny thing happens; it’s either incredibly easy or ridiculously difficult. The trend seems to now lean towards the latter, ever since I moved provinces away. I remember it being so easy when I was a kid; plaid button up shirts for Dad and something with pansies for Mom. Times are different and I think parents are now looking for the cool toys too, though I will treasure anything my son gives me. Check out some apps and accessories that should make your geeky Mom or Dad happy.

New BlackBerry 6 device simulators now available for the Bold 9650 and Curve 3G 9330

While it may not mean much to many folks in terms of usefulness, BlackBerry developers out there can now download the new BlackBerry 6 device simulators for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330. One could speculate that with their release, a BlackBerry 6 OS release for the same devices cannot be that far off but we don't really want to create any false hope for anyone. Though, deep down we really do hope that's exactly what it means. If you're a developer or just want to poke around in the device simulators you can grab them now from the developers resource page.

BlackBerry PlayBook video demo from the Rogers TabLife event

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

As we mentioned previously, the Rogers TabLife event was held today in Toronto. A lot of folks were on hand to film the event and now, some of that footage is making its way across the web. The above video shows off the BlackBerry PlayBook demo given by David Neale, Vice President of Special Projects at Research In Motion.

While the video itself is really just more of what we've seen previously it does provide some finer details. In the video, you get a brief look at some of the specs of the BlackBerry PlayBook more specifically, the processor running on the device. As noted in our forums, the BlackBerry PlayBook appears to be running that oft rumored TI OMAP 4440 processor which makes the BlackBerry PlayBook a pretty powerful device. Thanks Dave!

Rogers confirms BlackBerry PlayBook sales to begin early next year

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

Today in Toronto, Rogers is hosting their half-day, TabLifeTO conference to showcase how tablets are changing people’s lives. Be it in how they work, how they play or just simply how they live in general. Having brought in many guest speakers from various companies, Research In Motion's David Neale, Vice President of Special Projects is among them to speak about the BlackBerry PlayBook. Some interesting news has already come out of the Rogers TabLifeTO event though for us BlackBerry fans. In what is almost a follow up to our CrackBerry Podcast conversation regarding how the BlackBerry PlayBook will be sold, Rogers has confirmed that starting early next year they will be adding the BlackBerry PlayBook to their already existing line of tablets. Pretty awesome!

What’s Running in My Phone? – Task Manager for your BlackBerry smartphone

What's Running in My Phone by LSphone is an app to help with unexplainable battery drains, memory leaks, and overall sluggishness not fixed with a battery pull. Clean up unwanted or problematic applications that wreak havoc with your system by discovering what's running in the background and not appearing in App Switcher.

What's Running gives a complete list of running and waiting apps (including percentages), detects remnants of apps that continue working after deletion, and shows spyware leftover from free trials. It automatically updates to display all currently running processes and can be turned off when needed so as not to put a drain on your battery. You can even force start an app that fails without rebooting your phone.

    • Icon indicator with total number of apps running/waiting
    • Invisibly-running app viewer
    • Background app starter
    • Avoid some resets / battery pulls
    • App module force-deleter
    • Determine which apps run automatically on startup

What's Running in My Phone? is available at the CrackBerry App Store for $1.99 and is available for all touch and non touch devices running OS 4.2+.

Package Tracking keeps you up to date on all of your incoming shipments

Package Tracking is an application that lets you track all of your important incoming shipments, perfect for the Holiday season. You can track up to 5 packages at once, and the app will display all updates to the shipment's status, and wherabouts. It will track packages shiped from multiple couriers including UPS, FedEx, USPS, Ontrac, DHL DE, DHL PL, and DHL/Airborne USA.

You can purchase Package Tracking for $3.99 at BlackBerry App World. The price may seem high, but if you want to track all of your packages, from multiple couriers, in one place -- this is the app. It is compatible with a variety of BlackBerry devices running OS 5 and higher. Although BlackBerry App World doesn't show some of these in the "Supported Device" section, I have tested it with the 9700, 9650, and 9800.
