Leaked OS 6.0.0.448 for the BlackBerry Bold 9780

Two days of leaks now but still nothing for the 9800 yet. But here is the latest for the BlackBerry Bold 9780, v6.0.0.448. If you're interested in trying out this leak, fire up app loader or desktop manager or whatever you prefer to use and get to updating. Don't forget to back up your device first, and read the disclaimer below. Newer Facebook is also included with this release.

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

Review: Mobi Products Crystal Case for the BlackBerry Style 9670

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

Accessories for the BlackBerry Style 9670 are few and far between at the moment, so when I saw ShopCrackBerry.com had the Mobi Products Crystal Clear Case available, I jumped at the chance to review it.

The case is basically two pieces of plastic that just snap on the front and back of your BlackBerry Style. It does NOT come with screen protectors. The cutouts allow easy access to the charging port, side buttons & media card. The case does cover the charging contacts on the 9670, so if you use a charging cradle, you will have to pop the back piece of the case off each time. The case is very light and is made of a lightweight plastic so after a few drops you may end up with some cracks here and there. The Mobi Products Crystal Case is available at ShopCrackBerry.com for $12.95 and is also available in solid black.

Some of the forum users have used the case and experienced some "echo" issues. I tried the case on both my Style and another unit. I didn't notice an echo but the other person said she could hear one.

TELUS now offering the BlackBerry Pearl 3G for $200, no contract

If you're looking to get a deal on a no contract, BlackBerry Pearl 3G and live in Canada, TELUS is looking to hook you up. Be it in Black or in Pink, TELUS is willing to sell you either or for only $200. Which is a pretty sweet deal for a brand new, unopened, no contact device from any carrier.

To put some comparison on that pricing, if you were to go to AT&T right now and ask for a BlackBerry Pearl 3G with no contract you would be looking at paying $549.99. Also, if you're in the US and lucky enough to have some Canadian friends they might be able to hook you up. No details as to when the sale might end but I'm guessing it won't last too long.

XTop Mobile now available in beta form

If you've never heard of XTop Mobile before that's likely because it has been "coming soon" forever now. That said, XTop Mobile has finally been released in a lovely beta fashion and is welcoming users to sign up and try out the service. That service promises to create a lot of productivity between you, your PC and your BlackBerry. The full feature set below:

  • Get real-time notification of all incoming calls directly on your Laptop / PC so you don't have to reach for your Smartphone during meetings or while you're at your desk.
  • View, send and receive emails from the BIS (i.e. hotmail, gmail) and BES accounts on your Smartphone, wherever you are, without having to connect to a 3rd Party Hotspot.
  • Send and receive SMS and PIN chat messages in a chat-like window directly from your Laptop / PC screen.
  • Add, edit and manage your Smartphone contacts directly from your Laptop / PC in real-time.
  • Automatically back-up of all contacts, emails and text messages every time you walk-up to your laptop.

Sounds pretty awesome right? The beta is available now and gives you a full 30 days to try out the services. Full launch is expected next month but no details have yet been given indicating as to what the service may cost. Sadly, no Mac support is available as of yet either so this is just strictly for the Windows users out there. Give it a shot and let us know in the comments how it's working out for you.

Incipio Ultra Light Feather Case the BlackBerry Curve 8900

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

A case is a case is a case, right? Well... A case for your smartphone should do at least two things. One, protect your BlackBerry in some way. Whether that's simply protecting it from dings and scratches or full-on drop-it-from-ten-feet-and-be-unharmed protection, a case should do its job. Just as importantly, you should still be able to use your BlackBerry once it's in the case. Quality cases do just that.

The Ultra Light Feather Case is one such product. The case comes with a cleaning cloth and screen protector. Like most cases, this one doesn't cover the screen; so that thin and replaceable piece of plastic guards your screen from dust and light scratches. The case itself is obviously very light and is made of a rigid plastic that tightly hugs the phone. Convenience, mute, lock, and volume keys as well as the charging and headphone ports are all accessed through cutouts in the case.

Since I was borrowing my sister's Curve 8900, I had to get the one in pink (they call it Magenta); but the Ultra Light Feather Case comes in a variety of colors for a large number of devices. Though it won't save your BlackBerry from a ten-foot fall, it will protect against the incidental dings and scratches of everyday use. And with several colors to choose from for many BlackBerry devices, you too can add a bit of "fashion flair" to your device.

CrackBerry guide to wireless bill slashing apps

Part 1: cutting the cost of calling with discounted rate services

Welcome to the CrackBerry Guide to wireless bill cutting apps; or “How to afford to keep your BlackBerry and your high usage habits.” The BlackBerry addiction is strong. Like any addiction, it typically comes at a cost. In this case, in comes out of your pocket. Some are spoiled by their employer and are given a company BlackBerry. If they leave their job, some find the addiction too strong to just walk away from. They’ve developed habits and the result is a wireless bill, much larger than they can afford. Sure, some of us have UMA enabled BlackBerrys to lend a hand, but it doesn’t help everyone-especially not everywhere. Luckily, there are developers out there that have seen the need and have provided users with other means to save a few dollars. Let’s see what some of them are.

How do you use your BlackBerry: How many 3rd party apps do you have on your device?

How many 3rd party apps are installed on your device?online survey

When chatting with people about their devices, I'm sometimes amazed to see how many 3rd party apps they do or don't have on their device. Many users have a device which they bought or were given by work etc. that they just use "as is". They don't worry about installing any extra apps as they feel the native apps are good enough for them. On the flipside there are users that just can't stop installing apps. They load up their devices and have it busting at the seams with 3rd party apps. So our question today is this - how many 3rd party apps do you have on your device? Cast your vote in the poll above, and leave a comment stating your case!

BlackBerry Sedona enters the rumored device game

If you were thinking there weren't any more rumored devices in the ol' pipeline think again. N4BB has posted up an image of what looks to be a new player to the name game - the BlackBerry Curve 'Sedona'. It sports 512MB of RAM and OS 6.1. Not many other details to go along with this one, but now that this little guy is out in the open we're sure to see more info in the near future. Check out a few more pictures after the break.

*UPDATE* - As noted in the comments, this just simply appears to be an Apollo prototype so nothing really new here as it's not another new device but rather, a real version of what we saw in the previously leaked renders.Given the fact the Apollo name has been given to many devices at one time or another we're starting to think it's actually a stage in device development rather then a real codename given to any one specific device. Could be way off on that thought but it is what it is, a thought.
