From the Editor's Desk: Home For A Rest

Body:

After what's been nearly a straight month of travel and suitcase living, I'm glad to now be home for a rest. This past week was especially brutal. What should have been two easy days in NYC and a day trip to Atlanta had me racking up more travel follies in one trip than I've experienced in the past three years.

I managed to have one of the worst overpriced hotel experiences of my life (I suggest you never ever ever ever stay here - I swear the place is haunted) and out of five flights for the week only one wasn't delayed for over two hours. And you just gotta love when you leave the gate for a 2.5 hour flight only to have to sit on the plane an extra 2.5 hours before taking off (and then of due to the delays you miss your connection home and have to spend an extra night in a hotel and the flight home the next morning is delayed over two hours too). No REAL complaint there though - I'd much rather be delayed for a flight so the mechanics can do their fixes vs. the alternative.

While I'm glad to be Home For a Rest — especially now that winter is over and the weather is nice — I am looking forward to my next trip as I'll be heading to Montreal to cheer on Team Mercedes / BlackBerry at the Canadian Grand Prix! Between now and then I've blocked off a big chunk of my calendar so I can go heads down on writing and producing some fun content, which I'm truly looking forward to. As seems to happen to frequently, I've been a little too quiet around these parts lately. With it being a quiet Memorial Day Weekend, I'm going to get started on fixing that right away and make some noise.

But first, a little Editor's Desk catch up:

From the forums: The BlackBerry PlayBook 10 concept and this one looks a real beauty

Body:

Currently, as far as we know, another PlayBook isn't on the cards anytime soon for BlackBerry. That doesn't stop our CrackBerry forum members from wanting a new and improved BlackBerry 10 tablet though.

Andreas Kimishis1 has come up with yet another concept and I must say that it looks glorious. Since BlackBerry confirmed that the original PlayBook would not a get BlackBerry 10 update as we were first promised, mine has taken a back seat and I tend to use an iPad mini for my tablet needs - which is mainly for watching movies in bed - no not that sort!

Using strong passwords and keeping your online self secure

Body:

Earlier today, eBay issued a press release letting users know that a cyberattack "compromised a database containing encrypted passwords and other non-financial data." Users will be asked to change their passwords just in case, though they noted that eBay "has seen no indication of increased fraudulent account activity." This is sadly just one of many attacks recently, and something that won't be going away anytime soon, if ever.

Attacks like this are nothing new, over the years plenty of big-name sites have become victim to similar cyberattacks. Retial chain Target has been all over the news lately, and there's also vulnerabilities like the recent Heartbleed Bug that affected Google, Facebook, Yahoo and dozens of other sites.

As we go further and further, putting more and more of our personal information and lives online, it's even more important to keep that data safe. Your personal life (and data) is strewn out across the web in more places than you really know, so keeping what you can private and safe is more important now than ever before. At Mobile Nations we've always been big on security and keeping yourself protected online, but what are you really doing to make that happen?

From the forums: Another BlackBerry Windermere concept

Body:

Judging by the amount of comments we seem to get on our concept posts it would appear that seeing what we may or may not get from BlackBerry in the future is rather popular.

The BlackBerry Live moment that left me speechless and brought tears to my eyes!

Body:

The ultimate BlackBerry birthday cake!

It's Thursday. Which means it's Throw Back Thursday. And in this week's spirit of looking back at some of our favorite moments of BlackBerry Live events in years gone by, today I'm sharing with you a never before seen moment. For me personally, it's not only one of my favorite BlackBerry Live moments, but one of the absolute most memorable moments of my life.... my BlackBerry Surprise Birthday Party!!

My birthday is May 16th, which last year fell on a Thursday - the final day of BlackBerry Live. I had a meeting scheduled on my calendar for 2pm that day, to meet up with a colleague (and awesome friend!) from BlackBerry to discuss some future-looking CrackBerry ideas. It was a meeting that I requested, so no alarm bells went off in my head. We made our way back to the conference room that BlackBerry was using as their makeshift BlackBerry Live HQ for the week. And that's when it happened. I opened the door and walked into HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

From the forums: The BlackBerry Classic concept gets a revamp

Body:

Concept time once again and this one is a reworked version from regular forum poster DYLANHABKIRK who initially brought us a concept of the BlackBerry Classic/Q20 a short while back. But in true CrackBerry style he took onboard the comments that were left in the post and tweaked the design - good on him!

Thoughts on BlackBerry opening BB10 to non-BES MDM

Body:

BlackBerry opens up BB10 to outside MDM platforms. Right after I read this headline I thought I saw a pig flying out the corner of my eye. Is BlackBerry really allowing BB10 devices to be managed by another companies MDM system? Surely not?

We don't have too much information right now, but we do have many questions.

The BlackBerry Bold 9000 is *officially* unveiled at WES 2008!

Body:

Normally this is the week the CrackBerry team would be in Orlando enjoying the sun and hanging out with ~5,000 other fanatics at the BIGGEST BlackBerry event of the year. With no BlackBerry Live event taking place this year, we're taking a few days to look back at some of our favorite moments from the BlackBerry Live / BlackBerry World / WES events we attended in previous years.

WES 2008 was a HUGELY memorable event for me. In a lot of ways, it was our coming out party (for lack of a better term). At WES 2007 almost nobody knew who or what CrackBerry was. The site was still very new and our audience small. That changed in a BIG way at WES 2008. This was the event where BlackBerry officially unveiled the BlackBerry Bold 9000.

The thing was, CrackBerry unofficially unveiled the 9000 the week before. A BlackBerry 9000 showed up for purchase on eBay, and I was FAST to scoop it up. When it arrived, I reviewed the living hell out of it. With the 9000 being a highly anticipated phone, that story went EVERYWHERE. To this day that initial Bold 9000 walk through video is one of our most popular videos of all time. Showing up at WES 2008, it was like everybody knew who I was and about CrackBerry, in a large part thanks to that 9000 scoop.
