When the BlackBerry KEYone was announced as coming in an unlocked version in Canada, BlackBerry Mobile intended to have the device available starting in June but as it stands now, folks in Canada looking to purchase the unlocked version will have to wait until later this summer.
In a statement issued to us here at CrackBerry, a TCL spokesperson noted:
To meet our carrier partner demand — including expanded availability at Telus — the open market launch for the BlackBerry KEYone in Canada will begin later this summer.
The expanded availability at TELUS refers to the fact that instead of offering the BlackBerry KEYone only to business accounts as initially intended, consumer demand for the KEYone caused the Canadian carrier to start offering it to consumer accounts as well alongside other carriers such Rogers, Bell, MTS, and SaskTel.
All in all, it's great to see that carrier partner demand for the BlackBerry KEYone is there but no doubt there are going to be some folks disappointed that they can't snag a factory unlocked BlackBerry KEYone in Canada for a bit yet. Are you waiting for the unlocked version in Canada? Let us know in the comments.
