All BlackBerry Q10

See ya again soon, New York!

From the Editor's Desk: Farewell for now, New York!

As quickly as our adventure in NYC began it has come to an end, at least for a little while. The last few days were a whirlwind as we stripped down our temporary HQ and I packed up my things in a hurry to head to BlackBerry Live. I'm actually typing this From the Editor's Desk post from one of our...

White BlackBerry Q10 now available at Selfridges and Carphone Warehouse

While Selfridges in the UK had a BlackBerry Q10 exclusive for the black model at launch, they weren't the first to offer up the white version. However they did sell out their stock in just 90 minutes on opening weekend. Good news today though as Selfridges has now made the white Q10 available via...
Z10 or Q10?

BlackBerry Z10 or Q10? The CrackBerry Vodcast

So here's the deal. Adam and I recorded a video back on April 30th debating the much asked BlackBerry Z10 or BlackBerry Q10? question. I was planning to get my BIGGER write up done within a few days and then post this "vodcast" as part of that longer editorial. For a bunch of reasons, it's taking...

Sprint gearing up to show off the BlackBerry Q10 at BlackBerry Live

Sprint was scoffed at by many on the news that they would be skipping the BlackBerry Z10 completely in favor of the new BlackBerry Q10. However with the Q10 set to land on US soil in just a few weeks (hopefully) Sprint has announced that they will be on hand at BlackBerry Live in Orlando next week...

Dear Berry: How do I ignore a call on BlackBerry 10?

Hello again readers! Dear Berry is here once again with a mailbag full of BlackBerry questions and woes. This week's question comes from a reader who asks: Dear Berry -  I hope you can help answer a question for me. I just picked up my Z10 and I see how when answering an incoming call, all I...
Fix Speed Dial!

Brainstorming BB10: Please fix Speed Dialing on the BlackBerry Q10!

OK, time for a friendly rant in the spirit of Brainstorming BlackBerry 10. This one is about speed dialing on the BlackBerry Q10. It's driving me nuts. Compared to speed dialing on an older BlackBerry like the Bold 9900, speed dialing on the Q10 has taken a step backwards that I *hope* can be...

BlackBerry Q10: My day one impressions

The CrackBerry Forums have been buzzing with plenty of BlackBerry Q10 goodness over the last few weeks, but one particular thread stood out to me recently. A post from a new member VancityAllie ... so new that she registered for the forums just to make this post.  VancityAllie has been a long-time...

How to enable word prediction on the BlackBerry Q10

The obvious difference between typing on the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q10 is the physical keyboard. While the Z10 has various options for word prediction that can help out when typing on the virtual keyboard, the Q10 only has one option that may or may not be helpful when typing. For the...

Celcom Malaysia now taking BlackBerry Q10 registrations - Official device release May 15th

Moving a bit faster than the BlackBerry Z10 launch, the BlackBerry Q10 is now set to make its arrival in Malaysia. Celcom Malaysia has opened up their pre-registration page for those interested in the device and is currently offering some additional incentives to go along with it. If you register...

Comparing cloud services on the BlackBerry Q10

We’ve gone through Dropbox’s integration on BlackBerry 10 and touched on the Box preload in our Z10 review, and poked around at third party apps like PlayCloud that provide access to SkyDrive, Google Drive, and SugarSync. What we haven’t done is pit them all against one another and see how they...

How to take a screenshot on the BlackBerry Q10

One of the lesser know features of the BlackBerry Q10 is the built-in ability to take a screenshot. Unlike BlackBerry phones of years past, you no longer need an external application (or any application at all) to take a screenshot on your BlackBerry Q10. You may want to take a screenshot for any...
BlackBerry Q10 on Wall Street

Will Q10 demand drive a huge turnaround in BlackBerry’s financial results?

Last quarter, with only one month worth of Z10 shipments, BlackBerry shipped one million devices running the new BlackBerry 10 platform and posted better than expected results - particularly gross margin.  Now that the Q10 has hit a few markets, could things get even better? Could BlackBerry...
BlackBerry Q10 Drop Test!

Drunken Drop Test with the BlackBerry Q10

Since posting our BlackBerry Q10 Review, I have been using both the Z10 and Q10 as I try to determine which phone I actually want to use as my main BlackBerry 10 phone for the months ahead.  All week I've been working on a longer Which Should I Buy: BlackBerry Z10 or BlackBerry Q10? editorial...
BlackBerry Q10 by the CN Tower

BlackBerry Q10 Buyer's Guide - Canadian edition

The BlackBerry Q10 is now in stores across Canada, and we’ve cracked open boxes from Rogers, Bell, and TELUS. The device doesn’t change much from carrier to carrier (unless a white paint job is a big deal to you), but what really matters here is the service and how much it costs. We’ve broken down...

How to reload the OS on a BlackBerry Z10 or BlackBerry Q10

There are certain times when you may geek out more than you should with your BlackBerry 10 phone and run into some issues. Whether it be a poor-running OS leak, an interrupted security wipe or a somehow nuked device, you may want to downgrade or reload the stock OS. Thankfully, just as in the past...

White or black not enough? Check out the BlackBerry Q10 in 24kt gold

If for some reason plain old white or black isn't your thing, perhaps you want to opt for something a bit more flashy. Well thanks to Gold & Co. London you can do just that. As has been with many devices before it like the Bold 9900 and P'9981, the BlackBerry Q10 is receiving the gold...
BlackBerry Q10 Panda

Caught in the wild - the elusive BlackBerry Q10 panda!

When the BlackBerry Z10 was released we quickly discovered the tastiness of the BlackBerry Z10 Oreo. Putting a black battery door on the white Z10 made it look not only like a tasty cookie (or maybe ice cream sandwich??), but also gave the slightly slippery white Z10 more grip thanks to the soft...

BlackBerry 10 smartphones and BlackBerry PlayBook approved for use on U.S. Department of Defense network

Some great news for BlackBerry today came via the U.S. Department of Defense. After having put the devices through testing, the BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Q10 along with the BlackBerry PlayBook, have all been approved for use on the U.S. Department of Defense networks when coupled with BlackBerry...

How to unlock your BlackBerry Q10 from Canadian carriers!

If you're looking to get a new BlackBerry Q10 but one isn't available for your carrier, you still have options. Thankfully in most cases you can simply unlock your BlackBerry Q10 and use it on another carrier providing the networks are compatible (you can use a Rogers device on AT&T for...

Body:

The BlackBerry Q10 is the second BlackBerry 10 smartphone released. The Q10 has a more traditional BlackBerry form factor with a physical keyboard, but doesn’t have the traditional navigation keys or optical trackpad. Despite the physical keyboard, it still leverages the SwiftKey-powered prediction in a more traditional suggestion bar at the bottom of the display. The BlackBerry Q10 also makes use of the traditional BlackBerry keyboard shortcuts. The BlackBerry Q10 launched in May 2013.

Arguably, the most significant feature of the BlackBerry Z10 is the operating system. Though the primary focus on communication hasn’t changed in the software experience, the user interface has moved from one that relies on physical buttons to gestures. The most important one is the quarter-turn swipe from the bottom frame to the right frame to access the Hub. This is where notifications from all sources are unified in one place where users can respond and otherwise interact with them. Swiping up from the bottom returns users to the Active Frame screen, where minimized version of all running applications are visible, while menus can be opened by swiping from the top pane or long-pressing on individual items for context-sensitive actions.

The virtual keyboard for BlackBerry 10 uses a prediction engine powered by SwiftKey which makes suggestions based on personalized usage on a per-app basis. Suggested words appear above the next letter on the keyboard, and are picked by swiping up from that key. The camera software includes a new TimeShift function which shoots a fast burst of photos, and allows users to selectively edit individual faces to different shots taken in that burst to effectively create a moment that never really existed.
