Vodafone UK reduce the price of the BlackBerry Q10 on contract

If you are in the UK and in the market for a BlackBerry 10 device you may want to consider Vodafone as they have dropped the monthly price of the Q10 on one of their 3G plans. Previously £27.50 per month, you can now get the Q10 for just £24.17 - not a huge saving but a nice gesture by them...

Vodafone UK drop the price of the BlackBerry Q10 on pay monthly plans

For hardware keyboard lovers like myself, you may be interested to hear that UK carrier Vodafone has reduced the monthly price of the BlackBerry Q10 by a few quid as part of its post Christmas sale. If your contract is up for renewal and the Q10 is appealing then you may well want to hit up their...

One for UK consumers - giffgaff BlackBerry Q10 price and contract choices

We announced a short while back that UK MVNO giffgaff would be selling smartphones (including the BlackBerry Q10) and not just minutes, SMS and data as they have traditionally done. So for UK consumers looking to pick up the Q10 I thought it was worth diving a little deeper into the options that...

The BlackBerry Q10 gets a price cut in India

Good news for you folk in India that are on the lookout to buy a BlackBerry Q10. The BlackBerry 10 device with the 'best' hardware keyboard is now retailing for a reduced price from today until January 26th, 2014.  From my own perspective it's an interesting move as it is very much the opposite...

The best BlackBerry you can buy right now

Let's face it. The selection of BlackBerry devices isn't huge in comparison to the likes of Android -- but there are still a few different options depending on your needs. When we break things down, for the most part all the devices are sporting the same OS (or at least they can be, depending on...

UK MVNO giffgaff to sell the BlackBerry Q10 at the end of November

In the UK, if customers want to go down the SIM only route many choose the MVNO giffgaff, which runs off the O2 network. The 'very' cost effective network is branching out though and it would appear that they will also be selling handsets by the end of November, including the BlackBerry Q10. ...

1Sale offering factory unlocked BlackBerry Q10's for $400

There's been a ton of deals happening on BlackBerry 10 devices lately between carrier offerings, Amazon and various other big box locations. Even BlackBerry themselves have started selling devices directly though their pricing is still a bit up there when compared to other offerings. All that said...

BlackBerry now selling unlocked Z10's and Q10's direct

For years now plenty of folks, including myself, have been saying that BlackBerry should return to selling devices online direct to customers. I say return because there once was a time when you could pick up most GSM BlackBerry smartphones on the BlackBerry website if you dug through some links....

'Dark Theme' Contact and Calendar apps now available for sideloading

If you're among those who want the 'dark theme' back on your Q10 or available for your Z10, you now have the option of making that happen thanks to some files from the Berry Leaks team. There is a few small caveats that you'll want to pay attention to though, like the fact you need to be on...

BlackBerry Q10 available in-store at Sprint on September 13th

If you're a Sprint customer and are still waiting to pick up a new BlackBerry Q10, you can do so in stores starting September 13th. The Q10 has been available via direct ship for just about a week now but should be landing on store shelves soon. Sprint seems all whacked out on their BlackBerry...

Sprint commercial shows off the BlackBerry Q10

Even though Sprint is way late to the Q10 game, they dropped a new commercial that shows off over 90 seconds of Q10 goodness. It's honestly one of the best spots for the Q10 (or BlackBerry 10) yet and it makes me wish that someone had thrown it up months ago. The ad itself shows off the Q10's ...

Ability to choose light or dark theme coming soon to a BlackBerry near you

Our good friend Michael Clewley has taken to his BBM channel once again to bring us some great news. The ability to choose between the light and dark theme will be added to the OS in an upcoming version. Just what that version is yet we're not quite sure and we'd assume this only applies to the...

BlackBerry Q10 now available online from Sprint

If you've been holding out for the Sprint version of the BlackBerry Q10, it's now go time as the carrier has just pushed the device live on their site for ordering. The press release put out by Sprint previously noted the device would be available for $199.99 but the online version is showing the...

Wall Street Journal digging reveals very weak Q10 demand

Someone who I find does a good job of digging into BlackBerry is Will Connors from the Wall Street Journal. He and colleague Thomas Gryata published a story yesterday highlighting the difficulties BlackBerry is having selling the Q10. I’ll be the first to admit I was expecting a much stronger...

CrackBerry Asks: What would the perfect limited edition Z10 or Q10 look like?

Just the other day we saw that the Built for BlackBerry program has been updated and BlackBerry will be giving out even more limited edition BlackBerry Z10 devices. We also spotted a special white and gold BlackBerry Q10 that has gone on sale in Dubai. While both devices definitely have a certain ...

After a long, long wait, Sprint will finally be releasing the BlackBerry Q10 on August 30th. While all other US carriers have had the Q10 for months now, Sprint will be offering it up in stores and online this Friday.  Sprint had passed on the BlackBerry Z10 all together so the Q10 will be the...

Ten things we're looking forward to in BlackBerry 10.2

51 weeks ago to the day, I published a story on CrackBerry titled Ten Things We're Looking Forward to in BlackBerry 10 so far. At that point in time, BlackBerry was doing a road show giving select members of the press and VIPs an early hands-on with the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10. Prior to...

InsideHook takes on the BlackBerry Q10

The latest video to show off the BlackBerry Q10 comes from an unlikely source. InsideHook took the Q10 for a spin in this video to show off how good of a tool it is for the busy man in the workplace. The video runs at almost two minutes long but packs in a full days use of the Q10 and is amusing...

Body:

The BlackBerry Q10 is the second BlackBerry 10 smartphone released. The Q10 has a more traditional BlackBerry form factor with a physical keyboard, but doesn’t have the traditional navigation keys or optical trackpad. Despite the physical keyboard, it still leverages the SwiftKey-powered prediction in a more traditional suggestion bar at the bottom of the display. The BlackBerry Q10 also makes use of the traditional BlackBerry keyboard shortcuts. The BlackBerry Q10 launched in May 2013.

Arguably, the most significant feature of the BlackBerry Z10 is the operating system. Though the primary focus on communication hasn’t changed in the software experience, the user interface has moved from one that relies on physical buttons to gestures. The most important one is the quarter-turn swipe from the bottom frame to the right frame to access the Hub. This is where notifications from all sources are unified in one place where users can respond and otherwise interact with them. Swiping up from the bottom returns users to the Active Frame screen, where minimized version of all running applications are visible, while menus can be opened by swiping from the top pane or long-pressing on individual items for context-sensitive actions.

The virtual keyboard for BlackBerry 10 uses a prediction engine powered by SwiftKey which makes suggestions based on personalized usage on a per-app basis. Suggested words appear above the next letter on the keyboard, and are picked by swiping up from that key. The camera software includes a new TimeShift function which shoots a fast burst of photos, and allows users to selectively edit individual faces to different shots taken in that burst to effectively create a moment that never really existed.
