Raise your hand if you knew BlackBerry held patents for High-Efficiency Video Coding. Turns out they do, and as part of their ongoing licensing strategy, they're making them available for license through Velos Media.

"We are happy to have BlackBerry join the Velos Media licensing platform and further enhance access to important HEVC innovations that enable consumers to enjoy richer video experiences," said Fred Telecky, president Velos Media. "Velos Media's streamlined approach allows product manufacturers to have a reasonable and efficient path to secure a license, and our patent holders to receive a fair return on their R&D investments."

With the announcement, BlackBerry is joining other HEVC patent holders such as Ericsson, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Sharp, and Sony. Through the Velos Media Licensing Platform, manufacturers only have to obtain one license to gain access to all Velos Media member patents.
