BlackBerry App Roundup 10/9/15

Howdy CrackBerry Nation! Welcome to another edition of our weekly roundup. This is the place where we discover new or existing applications in both storefronts and bypass the ones that take up space. In terms of news since our last outing, it was determined that 44.3 percent of you said you planned on buying the new Priv by BlackBerry, there were new images and details on the Priv's 4K video, and updates to two popular Pebble applications, Talk2Watch Pro and Hub2Watch. Finally, John Chen stopped by Code/Mobile to discuss the Priv by BlackBerry as well as the future of BlackBerry.

Now it's time to bring you this week's picks for all your passionate BlackBerry addicts out there. You can find each app and game I've rustled up for you by clicking through the gallery below. If your favorite did not make the cut this week, remember you can help by offering your suggestions at the end.

Theme Builder by Toysoft Development Inc.

Theme Builder

As a former theme addict, being able to completely change the look and feel of the display was an addiction. Not only did it revitalize your screen but opened up the doors to customizing your BlackBerry to whatever you wanted. There are plenty of applications available to personalize your device but what if a tool existing that combined several different features into one? Theme Builder is an all-in-one homescreen theme application. It allows users to create shortcuts to various settings, native and third party applications, and composer functions such as new email, text message, contact, calendar, and Remember. In addition, users can also insert invisible icons, and create map shortcut icons on their homescreen for specific locations to access via BlackBerry Maps or Google Maps. The interface is quick and easy to use. If you want to rearrange your homescreen in a particular way, then you can purchase Theme Builder for $2.99.

Genius Maps: GPS Navigation and Offline Maps by Mireo

Genius Maps

A while back, we told you about Mireo an offline turn-by-turn GPS Navigation App. The developers are back at it again this time with Genius Maps powered by Navteq. This free application, though there are premium upgrades available, offers offline route planning and pedestrian navigation without requiring an Internet connection. However, features and maps do vary by region. It comes with a free 7-day trial with fully functional Pro Guidance (turn-by-turn voice instructions in your language, automatic rerouting) and Live Traffic (congestion, road works, and accidents) features. You can choose to upgrade after the trial or continue using the free professional-grade maps for planning routes and navigation. There is also another in-app purchase for Safety Cameras, which informs you about approaching safety camera locations. These are paid options and prices will vary depending on the one chosen.

Dark Echo by RAC7 Games

Dark Echo

Going through the Amazon Appstore, one game stood out from the rest. The reason? It is an extremely minimalistic game. How you might ask? Your character is trapped in darkness and must rely on sound to guide you. By tapping on the center of the screen, you can use visualized sound to navigate around the obstacles as well as revealing the shape of the surrounding world. However, doing so comes with a deadly cost. You are not the only one walking in the shadows and these creatures will track you down and devour you. Dark Echo comes with 80 horrifying levels and the description says it is best played with headphones. As Halloween is only three weeks away I cannot think of a more perfect choice to download if you are in the mood for a bit of a scare. Dark Echo is $1.99 in the Amazon Appstore and free in the Amazon Underground (US, UK, Germany, and France only).
