Finally, and more importantly, you can now preorder the BlackBerry Classic! How many of you are grabbing one?
Now it is time to bring you this week's picks for all your passionate BlackBerry addicts out there. You can find each app and game I've rustled up for you by clicking through the gallery below. If your favorite did not make the cut this week, remember you can help by offering your suggestions at the end.
Secure Pictures by Pronic
There are a plethora of applications that look to hide your images and documents from view and protect them from strangers or prying eyes. Secure Pictures is another option for securing photos and videos taken by your BlackBerry camera. It protects your media by encrypting them with a secure password that only the application is capable of opening. It uses AES-256 symmetric cryptography and safely stores the key on your device. You can purchase this application for $2.99 for BlackBerry 10.
GeoCoder Pro by Burning Platform
Do you find yourself searching for information on a particular location? If you do, this native application provides details only found by going through multiple online resources. Using this application you can get, but it is not limited to, precise GPS coordinates, ground elevation, full official address, road distance from your home to current location, estimated travel time, moonrise and moonset times, and current weather conditions. There are additional features available at your fingertips with one tap access including full screen Google Map, StreetView layer, Panoramio layer, one-click access to Wikipedia page, and Traffic and Transit layer. This feature rich application is $1.99 for all BlackBerry 10 handsets.
Nightly Clock by Allstar Software
Our next application is the first application from a former Symbian developer. While our BlackBerry devices do have the capability to create various alarms, nothing wrong with changing things up a bit. This application comes with 9 colors to choose from, three font sizes and bold font toggle, and 3 built-in alarm sounds with option to select your own. Users can even enter in a message to show when the alarm in sounded. This simple application is $0.99 and is compatible with the Z10 and Z30 (with Z3 and Passport in the pipeline).
musiXmatch Music Player Lyrics by musiXmatch
While this application is not necessarily new to other platforms, there is no denying that we sometimes need a little help with song lyrics. After downloading, it scans for music you have saved on your device or SD card. The application itself can identify millions of songs and lyrics in minutes including music titles, artists, and discography. Using the clean and bright interface you can easily setup playlists and listen to your tunes all while seeing the lyrics scroll across the screen. In addition, if you hear a song on the radio or on TV and need to know the name, artist or even the lyrics you can hold it up, tap the button, and it will identify it using their MusicID. musiXmatch offers a smooth interface, lyrics that are in perfect sync with the music, and even has the capability to remove the song's vocals so that you can sing along if supported. You can find it for free in the Amazon Appstore.
Checker-Wise by Marel Nijman
With all the action packed games currently available there is nothing like an old fashioned game of checkers to keep you busy. This feature packed game offers quite a few different options to give players as much as possible. Included is the ability to play against the computer (built-in engine), play against an opponent, play an official game, save or load games, analyze a played game, and even look through all the games of the Dutch National Club Competition. Those who wish to master the game and expand their knowledge can pick this up for $1.99 for BlackBerry 10.
What You Might Have Missed
Angry Birds Transformers by Rovio Entertainment
If you didn't have a chance to catch James' review of the latest in the Angry Birds series be sure to do so. In a complete department from their regular avian flinging antics this is a 3D shoot'em up adventure. The Eggspark has invaded the land turning the birds and pigs into our favorite Transformer characters. Your goal is to help the Autobirds save Piggy Island from the Eggbots without using a slingshot and by shooting at the Deceptihogs. This time you have some serious firepower to stop your enemies. I have to say it offers awesome gameplay and of course top-notch graphics. Who would have though these two genres could combine and form one absolutely fun game. Be sure to grab it for free at the link through the Amazon Appstore if you are on BlackBerry 10.
