More often than not, and against my better judgment, I tend to order quite a few items online. Needless to say while you can always check the status of your order through the web sometimes a third party application is a faster choice depending on the service. This may be an Android port, but unlike other apps in the store, supports a wide variety of international providers. The interface is clean and being able to enter in tracking numbers or URL's is quite easy. While it refreshes information automatically and will alert you when running as an Active Frame, there is an option to force a refresh from the top as well. It supports the BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry 10 devices for $2.99.

What's Up by Maurice Rice

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit the Hayden Planetarium in NYC and it influenced my selection of this particular astronomical pick. Now we've featured the PlayBook version before as it was the first sky map app at the time, but I noticed the developer now made it for the latest OS as well. Not only does it allow you to get a real time view when you raise your device to the night sky, but shows real-time positions for the stars, sun, moon, and major planets to help you identify all of these interesting objects. This astronomy application will only set you back $.99 and it is definitely worth it for all the amateur stargazers out there. Unfortunately it only supports all touch BlackBerry 10 devices and the BlackBerry PlayBook. You can grab this for $.99 and it only asks for permission to access your location.

Browsing through the forums this week, this next selection caught my eye. Posta is a simple application for accessing Gmail on your BlackBerry. The developer has taken the mobile website and designed a native application around it to make it easier to manage your account. Features include organizing your emails with labels, archive, or starred, receiving notifications while the app is running, viewing emails as threaded conversations, searching through Gmail with advanced options, and, of course, send, receive, delete or report emails. It does support Actives Frames with notifications on BlackBerry 10 and I have to say it does look very promising. As an active participant in the forums, the developer continues to add features. I cannot resist a lovely theme and this one is perfectly balanced and visually appealing for your legacy device. It offers an icon set that stands out from the rest, an elegant color scheme and background, customized banners, semi-transparent menus and dialog boxes, custom BBM, Email, and Message notifications and indicators, and is clean and responsive overall. You can find this for most devices running OS 5 and higher for $.99.

Color Quest by XIMAD INC

There is nothing like a game that offers a colorful twist on the match-3 puzzler. Your objective is to help the characters save their land from destruction by reaching the target score before running out of moves. It offers power ups, boosts, and rewards throughout the game to help you out on your quest. It will keep you and your kids occupied for quite some time with its fast-paced fun. While it is free to download it does come with in-app purchases. Color Quest supports all BlackBerry 10 devices devices and the PlayBook.

What You Might Have Missed

Zombie Derby by HeroCraft

The timing of this game hitting the blogs this week is appropriate. Not only has In the Flesh returned to BBC America but I happened to finish reading The Zombie Survival Guide. The object of this game is rather simple, in that all you have to do is drive in your car and see how many zombies you can kill before they get to you first. Each of the six cars can be customized with special bumpers, tires, engines, ammo, etc. It offers 3D graphics, five levels, and a chance to show off your slaying skills. As this is such a graphics heavy game it is no surprise it is only available for touchscreen BlackBerry 10 devices. It certainly looks great on the larger screens and is free to download.
