BBM 2.0 for BlackBerry, Android and iOS now available - Brings channels, voice, location sharing and more

Android and iOS users finally get the goods as BBM 2.0 has arrived. Starting later today, BlackBerry, iPhone and Android users will be able to download an updated BBM that includes BBM Channels, BBM Voice, local sharing with Glympse, Dropbox integration and much more. The update will bring things up to speed with the native BBM app on BlackBerry and make for some happy cross-platform users.

We'll have plenty more on this one soon so stay tuned — in the meantime, check out the full press release below.

Angry Birds Stella coming this fall

Yesterday they teased it and today it was unveiled to the world — the next title in the Angry Birds line will be Stella. The upcoming title looks very female-oriented and shows Stella joined by five of her besties for what will surely be plenty of grand adventure. Rovio hasn't released any other details on the new title aside from the fact that it will be coming this fall.

BlackBerry Link v1.2.3.22 for Windows now available

It has been a few months since we've seen an update for BlackBerry Link, and today Windows users get a shiny new version (sorry, no Mac love today). We're not totally sure just what's new in this one, but you can expect some minor tweaks and fixes to keep things running decent. It doesn't look like there are any big overhauls this time around, but it's always good to keep things up to date.

Rovio teases 'big adventure' with new Angry Birds

We're not quite sure just what it is, or when we'll see it go live (the name and other details will be revealed tomorrow) but Rovio is teasing an all-new Angry Birds release on Twitter. Their last offering, Angry Birds Go, landed on BlackBerry 10 the same day as other platforms, so here's to hoping that this one will be the same. We know what a debacle it was to get the original titles on BB10 so hopefully we won't have to endure that process again.

Microsoft looking to bring Android apps to Windows Phone

Interesting news today as it's being reported that Microsoft may now be looking to follow in the footsteps of BlackBerry and bring Android apps to Windows Phone devices. According to the report, Android apps would actually be available within the Windows Phone store directly on devices. Nothing has yet been confirmed but it could make things very interesting for Windows Phone users if it holds true.

What's your high score in Flappy Bird?

Okay, I'll admit it — I'm totally sick of Flappy Bird. I'm angry that I installed it, angry that I made my friends install it, and even more angry that I can't stop playing it. It's slowly sucking the life out of me. That being said, I did manage to score 21 today and I'm way more proud of myself than I should be.

If for some reason you haven't yet played Flappy Bird — you need to. Or maybe you don't ... but you should. It's easy to play, nearly impossible to do well but insanely addictive and super annoying. It is free though! And if you're running OS 10.2.1 you can easily install it with no catch so you too can see what all of the buzz is about. I have such a hard time recommending it because it's a true life-sucker, but you should play it at least once. Or maybe twice.

Round Two: Typo fights back against BlackBerry

The BlackBerry / Typo saga continues. Recently BlackBerry sought an injunction against Typo and their iPhone keyboard accessory, claiming that the Typo infringes on one or more of BlackBerry's patents. BlackBerry aimed to block sales of the device in the US for the time being.

Typo isn't going down without a fight however. In order for BlackBerry to win out, they'll need to convince the court that they would suffer “irreparable injury" from sales of the Typo — so far they haven't. The Typo sells for $99.99 and so far around 4,000 of the devices have been sold.

Behind the making of the amazing BlackBerry 10 Sochi Olympics app

This week I had a chance to talk with one of the developers of the Sochi 2014 app for BlackBerry 10 — what will be my go to app for the Olympics this year. The app itself is beautiful. It has a great UI, it's fast, and it works ridiculously well. If you haven't downloaded it yet, go get it right now.

The Sochi app was made for BlackBerry 10 by Eventbase, a company that specializes in event-based apps. In addition to the Sochi 2014 app, they've also created the Sundance 2014 app this year as well as previous apps for the Vancouver and London Olympics. Sochi 2014 is their first Olympic offering for BlackBerry 10 however (it's also available for BB7 devices).

BBM for iPhone and Android updated with 'Find Friends' feature

One of the big gripes we have with cross-platform BBM is the way it handles contacts — or that it doesn't. There was never really a way to easily discover which friends and contacts are using BBM and quickly add them to your contacts. A new BBM update for iOS and Android is rolling out this week however and includes the new Find Friends feature which will fix all that.

Would you like these BlackBerry 10 sliders?

If a BlackBerry 10 slider is something you think would be awesome, these fan-made concepts are for you. Our friend Ziro1 is back with some more designs — this time for the "Z11" and "Z20". Two slider concepts that are two sets of awesome.

I was a total Torch lover so I have to say that either one of these would be amazing to have for my day-to-day. I love that you can drop away the keyboard when you don't need it, but you can also rock it out to pump out messages when you need to. I'm definitely more partial to the design of the Z20 more so than the horizontalness of the Z11.

'Why I hate BlackBerry Z10 EVEN MORE!'

It's been a year and our buddy J_Caloy is still hating his BlackBerry Z10. He hated it before — and after a handful of software updates over the last year, he now hates it even more!

How to get Flappy Bird on your BlackBerry

Like it or not — Flappy Bird is addicting as hell. It's a super simple game with crappy graphics, but once you get going you just can't seem to put it down. It's taking off like crazy on iOS, Android and even Windows Phone, and thanks to OS 10.2.1 and a few tricks you can have it up and running on your BlackBerry 10 device in not time at all. Just beware that it's extremely addicting — consider yourself warned!

Unofficial Chive app set to hit BlackBerry World tomorrow

A few weeks ago we first saw the unofficial Chive app Chive On available for download. At the time it was unsure if it would ever make its way to an "official" launch in BlackBerry World, but tomorrow it looks like all the stars will be aligned.

After some back and forth and a bit of dark magic, Chive On will indeed be available via BlackBerry World tomorrow for all BlackBerry 10 devices. The app will of course be free and will feature the best of what The Chive has to offer, right on your device.

Wind Mobile offers unlimited roaming in the US for $15 a month

Wind Mobile announced today that beginning February 3rd, customers can pay an extra $15 a month for unlimited roaming in the U.S. That means Wind users can take advantage of unlimited calls, texts and data on the cheap when gallivanting around the US instead of coughing up loads of cash for just a few MBs of data.

That's all there is to it — no other fees or catches on this one. New and existing customers will be able to subscribe to the Unlimited U.S. Roaming add-on starting Monday.

Through the Zeis Lens: The BlackBerry 10 Launch Day Experience

A year ago today Kevin, Bla1ze, Marcus and I were on location in NYC for the global unveiling of BlackBerry 10 — to say it was a big day for us would be an understatement. After hanging out in the lobby with tons of other people from the media for what seems like hours, we rushed our way to the first line of press tables to ensure we had a good vantage point for the rest of the day. Once we got settled and fired up our live blog, Thorsten Heins took the stage to announce BlackBerry 10, the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q10.

It was a crazy day that set off months of BlackBerry 10 news, and a year later there is so much to look back on. I was going through some photos from the day (there are loads!) and figured I'd post up a few of my favorites for your viewing pleasure. So here are my top 10 photos from the BB10 Experience in NYC. Take a look through them, drop your thoughts in the comments. If you happen to have any photos of your own please share them with us too!

How to install Instagram on BlackBerry 10

With the official release of OS 10.2.1 hitting devices around the globe, we now have the option to install Android applications right on the device — including Instagram. It's obviously not an official BlackBerry version, but it still works like a champ on the new OS. So if you've been waiting to get your gramming on from your BlackBerry, here's how to get it done.

The best places to find Android apps for BlackBerry OS 10.2.1

So you're finally updating to an official version of OS 10.2.1. It's been a long time coming, but for those of you who waited it out without installing a leak, I applaud you. Now you can take advantage of all of the great features that OS 10.2.1 has to offer including OTA installs of Android applications (APKs).

Unlike before when you had to run though a lengthy process of converting and sideloading Android apps, OS 10.2.1 now lets you install them right on your device with just a few taps — no computer or additional software is necessary. You can use pretty much any APK you can get your hands on or you can hit up one of the many Android app store clients that are available on BlackBerry 10. Just keep in mind that some apps work great, others not so much.

How to update your BlackBerry to OS 10.2.1

BlackBerry OS 10.2.1 is finally rolling out to users across the globe. It's long overdue but hey, it's here now so let's just get on with it. If you're not quite sure just how to get the update — don't worry.

You should be seeing a notification on your device in the BlackBerry Hub. If not, you can always head to Settings > Software Update to check manually. When you do see the OS, you can download in the background and go about your business until the install is ready. From there, fire it up and wait it out (it shouldn't take too long) and your device will reboot once the update is compete.

Verizon begins rolling out OS 10.2.1

It looks like Verizon users may be in luck (for once). According to multiple reports in the forums, users are now seeing updates for OS

From what we've heard OS 10.2.1 isn't set to roll out for another few days for most users but if this stands correct, the process may already be underway. The update is appearing OTA for some as well as via BlackBerry Link.

How to watch the Super Bowl from your BlackBerry

Super Bowl XLVIII is just over a week away and that means many of you will be sorting out just where you'll be watching the big game this year. Fortunately this year you don't need to jump through hoops to watch the game on the go if you're a Verizon customer.

If you plan to be out and about when the game kicks off, you can easily tune in right on your BlackBerry (or Android, iOS & Windows Phone) thanks to the NFL Mobile app. The only setback is that you'll have to cough up the $5 subscription fee, but that shouldn't be too much to ask if watching on your phone is the only option.
