If you're a sports fan, fantasy league manager, or just want to keep up on the water cooler talk at work, Apple has developed a brand new app for keeping tabs on sports.

Apple Sports, a new app that launched today, collects the scores from your favorite teams across leagues, giving you an at-a-galance look at the teams you care about.

While there are many apps sports apps that include scores and stats as one of the features, Apple Sports positions scores as the main feature. It's designed to be fast and easy to use. In fact, if you've ever set up Apple News to track a particular sports team, that info migrates over to the new Sports app. Within the app you can browse various leagues and select teams you want to follow.

The leagues available at launch include:

  • MLS
  • NBA
  • NCAA basketball (men's and women's)
  • NHL
  • Bundesliga
  • LaLiga
  • Liga MX
  • Ligue 1
  • Premier League
  • Serie A

Apple says additional leagues will be coming when their seasons begin including MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA.

Apple Sports has a very minimalist layout for simple navigation.

There are three views within Apple Sports. Today, which has every live and upcoming match up with final scores listed for the entire day. Yesterday, a recap of games featuring teams you follow. And Upcoming which looks a few days ahead in the schedule displaying matchups you've indicated are of interest.

During games, tapping on a "game card" will show you up-to-the-second data like the remaining time in the matchup. You can also view more detailed stats witin the game card view including stats relevant to the sport (goals, penalties, standings, and much more) as well as betting odds (though if you're not interested in sports betting this section can be turned off). During live games, a button also appears in the app prompting you to watch the game on Apple TV (assuming you have subscribed to a service that will allow you to strem those games at home).

This is certainly not the most comprehensive app for following the sports world, but it's not meant to be. It's there to quickly get the scores from teams you care about, to save you a bit of time Googling. If you're really into sports, you probably already have your go-to app and likely won't change. But if you're more of a casual enthusiast, or prefer to jump on the bandwagon just during playoffs, then this could be a simple way to track what's going on with the teams you care about.
