We mentioned just last week that BlackBerry India was kicking off a new marketing campaign which lead with the slogan 'Action Starts Here', and for the good people of India, that now involves a competition. In line with India's Independence Day, the competition has a social twist to it and makes the most of using Facebook. Users need to visit the specific Facebook page, set a goal, make a pledge in one of the categories available and that will then make you a person of action. You can invite your friends to support you and doing this will earn you points. The more points you earn, the more likely you are to be a winner and be awarded with a BlackBerry smartphone as your grand prize. There will be a total of 20 winners selected and they will each either win a BlackBerry Bold 9900, a Curve 9320 or a Torch 9810 - sweet!

There are a couple of very important rules here though. Firstly; you must be a resident of India to take part and secondly; you must be over the age of 18 years old. The contest has started and will run until September 30th so you have plenty of time to get pledging.

To everyone who hates the idea of naming the Splat symbol or prefers it be called the Notificion symbol, or the notificaion asterisk:

Click on the link. Look at the crowd carrying around the cutouts of what RIM calls the Splat.

RIM is already marketing the symbol. Imagine if that symbol had a meaningful name, like Spark. That is how effective marketing turns into product awareness and evenutally sales. By taking something simple, common, and everyday, and giving it some wheels among people's minds.

oh, and yea for this contest too. :)
