BlackBerry Storm2 launch day is here and by now many are picking up their devices from retail locations. The issue we see here is the fact all those devices being currently sold are indeed tied to Verizon while some users may be picking them up to use on a different carrier such as AT&T and T-Mobile. Well, you all know how we do it here at CrackBerry when a new device launches. We like to see people have some choice in the matter when it comes to carriers and what device they can use on those carriers, so we've teamed up with CellUnlock to give you some options.

I have already left a post in the CrackBerry Forums before under the name (baileypc) before this contest. So my goal here is to take advantage of the visibility on this issue and if I win I win.
People should stand up for their "consumer rights" and STOP these damn exclusivity contracts. Being forced to change providers is insane, having to wait for your current contract to end means you will miss out on the "newness" of the device "you want", and ultimately this is un-American to a free-market.
It is time to email, write, and call the FCC as well as your Senate Congress person! Tell them to end exclusivity contracts! You can also try the statement...
"WERE MAD AS HELL AND WERE NTO GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE"!
...but they may not listen so lets be civil unless you just have an involuntary reaction once you reach someone.
bottom line is, this is absolutely all about capitalizing on OUR DIME by the cell phone makers. It blocks sales of phones, forces us to pay more for phones without contracts, find ways to crack phones, and providers are losing continued or new contracts by not offering the phones so I am at a loss as to why they go along with this.

You could just call Verizon and ask for them to give you an unlock code. They will provide the code and walk you through entering it. Then could you pop in whatever simcard you want and use it on any network couldn't you?

My VZW customer service person led me to believe that it's possible to unlock my Storm (5.0 -- my phone finally works right) for use outside the U.S. and keep it locked for GSM carriers *inside* the U.S.. Does this sound plausible?

If you buy it from VZW and have an account with them, they'll unlock it for you. Just ask them for Tech Support and tell that person that you want an unlock code. When I ordered my 2 this morning I asked if they would unlock it like they did my 1 and she said yes and to just call back when I get the 2 delivered.

I just completed my order with the great customer service rep at Verizon (I'm switching over form ATT) who really sold me on switching over - not that I needed much convincing!! But I had to try to get as much as possible out of them :D
A couple of tips for ordering your BB Storm2:
* If you order on the phone, they match the online price (including the rebate) WITHOUT having to wait for the rebate!! You'll also get the same overnight shipping although you won't get the BOGO
* Ask if they can waive the activation fee. All I had to do was buy a couple accessories, which they gave me at a discount, and they waived the fee!!
This is a great start to my 2 year relationship (at least) with Verizon and BB!!

I am in Trinidad WI, so it takes months to get the lastest phones from here, so I ended up getting one online 8 months before they were available from my provider. It would be easier and cheaper to get a code to set me up faster than last time as I like to keep up with the times. Now have to get the new storm2....
