Some extra reading space comes to the BlackBerry 10 Wikipedia app

Wikipedia BlackBerry 10
By James Richardson on 3 Mar 2014 10:17 am EST

We've not long had the Built for BlackBerry Wikipedia app for BlackBerry 10 but it's already received a nice little update. In addition to a few bug fixes there is one major change which makes the app a whole lot better - in particular on the Q10 and Q5 and that's that the action bar automatically hides when you scroll.

It may not sound like much, but it's a sweet little improvement and as Q10 user myself, one that's most welcomed - giving me a little more screen real estate for reading text.

If you haven't given the app a go you should. It's free and available for all BlackBerry 10 handsets.

Features include:

  • Set your favorite languages for searching and reading articles.
  • Save articles and access them offline.
  • All your browsing history is saved in a chronological order.
  • Share a complete article or a shortcut to a specific section.
  • Choose between light and dark display.
  • View the featured articles and top news in the active frame.
  • Search Wikipedia via BlackBerry 10 Universal Search

Now that's nice little update for Wikipedia :)

Indeed. It's their first update to an already polished app. They recently released a Craigslist app too.

Check out the GeoYeo app which I feel is far superior it searches everywhere including CL, has an embedded Barcode scanner to search new items and also lets you post your own classifieds ads.

Classifieds Canada and GeoYeo App all the way!!!

Polished app? View a list of episodes of a program, you can't scroll side to side so half the info is hidden.

If I can't read the information I'd not be calling that a polished experience.

Awesome! I'm on a Q10 as well, and it's nice to hear that app developers are looking to maximize screen real estate for us!

Posted via CB10

Good and quick thinking by the developer! Bravo!

 Q1O

I see what you did there ;)

When was the update not had it so far

Posted via CB10

If the pictures now load I will try this again, if not the browser works just fine for me.

Posted via CB10

Thanks so much for the sweet quick fix :)

'Jpg not found in mobile database'
Anyone else with this issue? I've checked settings with no results..
Back to the browser I go.

Posted via CB10

But the search bar still doesn't go away. Its a nice to have feature on a bigger screen phone, a must have for the Q10.

Posted via CB10

Is this the official Wikipedia app?

Posted via CB10

That's because the Q10 is AWESOME!

I used my Q10 to create this CrackBerry madness!

Tables are still truncated in this update though. Only leftmost three or four columns show up

Posted via CB10

Nice going and thanks for the support! Use it regularly!

Posted using the best phone ever, the Z30!

kamal lyall

If only they can make the search bar autohide on Q10, it would be a welcome gesture

Q10 is marijuana

Adore this app - kudos to the dev

This is a really good app.

Likewise this is a fabulous app. Thank you Dev!

Nice to have it when you need it,I have had it for ages and never knew I had it too many apps already.Who says you need a Zillion apps, anyway?

Lol good news I un installed the app because of this

All I want in a future update is the top search header to hide. Maybe the s key to be implemented to get the search bar back.

Search "inter milan" go to the page and press the players tab. Notice how you can't see half the players.... if you try to move left or right it won't let you! mayor bug!

Posted via CB10

There is the option to open in browser from the app.

Posted via CB10

So if you need to use the browser, then why bother with the app in the first place? This is meant to be a 'built for BlackBerry' app and now I have to use a browser? Not cool.

Just received this update, but haven't used the app even once

Posted via CB10

Nice update but I can't scroll sideways to view extra info in tables for eg! U have to launch the browser, which ironically is what the app should negate!

Great - wonderful that we get such a nice, polished and fast app for free. You shouldn't complain... but I do (a bit).

The Q10 support isn't thought through : when you scroll with 'space' the bottom bar is *not* hidden and there is still no support for keyboard shortcuts (s for search, f for Find-On-Page, r for Read-in, ...)

Having said that : still a great app! I'm usually not a big fan of apps when you have a website with almost the same functionality - but the is so much faster, user friendly than the mobile wiki page.
And as a bi-lingual (German living abroad) I love how you easily can switch the languages.

Like it for a quick check on "facts"
(Wikipedia's reliability of course) .

iPhone for me? Scr... ahem Q that! (posted from the latter)

The lack of sideways scrolling is a real issue.

Posted via CB10

It's nice...anyways it's a really great app!!

Posted via CB10

Yay. I've had a shortcut since I got my z10, didn't even know there was an app. I guess I need to check BlackBerry World more often :/

Posted via CB10

I likes it
