Wifi Hero

WiFi is a power saving application for your WiFi capable BlackBerry smartphone. It offers 3 different modes to control the on/off status of your WifFi, hence saving your battery.

  • Location Based: WiFi Hero will learn the location of the hotspots you connect to. When you are out of range of your hotspots WiFi will be turned off, when you are back in range it will be turned back on.
  • Screen Status: In this mode WiFi will be automatically turned on when screen is on, and turned back off when screen is off.
  • Charging Status: This mode allows you to have WiFi on only when the phone is charging, once disconnected it will turn off until you charge again.

WiFi Hero is a very small application and a great way to save power for those who use WiFi on their BlackBerry. It is available for $4.99 from the CrackBerry App Store and is compatible with OS 4.5+

Contest: We have 30 free copies of WiFi Hero to give away. Just leave a comment on this post to enter. Contest ends this Sunday at Midnight PST. Please only leave one comment - multiple entries won't count.

WiFi Hero Automatically Controls Wifi Power Status - 30 Free Copies

This is a GREAT concept. No sense in searching for WIFI when it's not even available. Would love to try it.

Id love this app as its a pain to keep having to turn off my WIFI and back on again.

Plus im from the UK so by default i should win it as im foreign haha....joking.

But seriously can i please have a copy pretty please??

I downloaded this app yesterday and had major issues with it. It kept turning my Wi-Fi on and off by itself. Others have experienced the same issue. I am running OS 5.0 on an 8900. It also locked up my 8900 at one point. When it turned off my Wi-Fi I couldn't send or receive any push email. When I uninstalled it my services went back to normal.

You might try the free trial first before moving forward. For me... it is a no go.

This would be great for when I leave the house or school, and there isn't any WiFi. Save me the hassle of having to turn it off every time I leave locations with WiFi that I frequently visit.

I have a Curve 8900. It being without 3G means that I am on Wi-Fi whenever it's available. This would definitely enhance my BlackBerry experience. Please pick me!! I love you CrackBerry!!

Don't use WiFi as much as I thought I would, but I think it's partly due to a sub-conscious fear of draining the battery - this could be the answer that I didn't know I was looking for!

This seems like a very useful application. I wonder how much power I'm using my leaving the WiFi on when I'm out of range?

This would be great for me! I only use Wifi in my house as i have ZERO signal there but dont need it once i leave!

I hope to win a copy of this, with the wifi being on and me constantly forgetting to turn it off I need something like this.

This sounds like a great app for extensive wifi user like myself, I hate trying to remember to turn on & off the wifi when im not around my router.

This would be great. Love using WIFI when at work, but my baby is always dying cuz of it. This would help me so much!

I am soon to be in need of this app, if i wdont win it ill probably buy it.... please accept this entry for this contest.

I hope I win and get chosen. I've just received my storm 2 and work on a college campus with wi fi all the time. PLease........................................

Love the idea. I'll be testing this over the holiday weekend since AT&T doesn't have great service at my folks.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Forgetting to turn off WiFi when leaving a hotspot is a huge battery drain. Sign me up for the contest!

I could really use this app, and if I'm lucky enough to win, will help promote it to all my other 'Crackheads'!

I have given up using Wifi because it drains battery so fast and it's so annoying having to turn it on and off. With this app, I'll actually use Wifi.

I would love to own a copy of this! I have a Bold with a serious battery drain issue, so every bit helps!

Thanks for the chance to win!!

i just got my first blackberry! this will make it so much more convenient than it already is!

Now that I have a UMA enabled phone, it would be great for my wi-fi to turn on and off automatically as I enter or leave the areas where I use UMA!

I've been begging for this application since my first BlackBerry with WiFi (8820) I'm never one to leave my WiFi on! I love that you guys finally figured out a way to make it happen!
