Where Did My 'Show Recent Contacts When Composing Email' Option Go?

While cranking out some emails the other day, I was frantically searching for a contact I knew I had. There were multiple times I had emailed this person from my Tour, and I could not for the life of me find the address on my 9700. I ran through my contacts over and over to no avail. I grabbed my Tour and did the same with no result. In my mass hysteria I started the email again, this time on the Tour. As I type out the address, sure enough it showed up. It was then I realized that my "Gmail Style" recent contacts did not display when composing an email from the Bold 9700. A bit of digging (and 4 days later) I discovered that the Tour 9630 shows an option to Show Recent Contacts When Composing Email which was set to on. Apparently on the Bold 9700 (and multiple other devices) this option is nowhere to be found. I had grown to love this feature, and honestly I'm quite upset that I no longer have it. I have no idea if it is carrier based, OS based or where it stems from, but I want it back. My question is this - did you have this feature and love it on an old device, but have since moved on and want it back? Did you not even know it existed? Take a vote in the poll and let us know.

Had this on my 8900, missing from the 9700 on Tmobile 5.0.0.330...

How could a Blackberry NOT have this feature... Seems unreasonable.

There is an issue with this feature. RIM DIDN'T PUT IN AN OPTION TO EDIT THE ENTRIES!!!!

I don't have a problem with such a feature, but RIM needs to make it where you can edit the entires within this list. (Sometimes you make a mistake typing and not being able to delete the bad entry is no good.) Once they make that possible, they can reimplement this feature as I'm sure many will like it.

Please RIM, give us an option to edit these entries (perhaps put it under Options or Address Book/Options).

but i just checked (on my tour) with that feature on and off, and i still get a list of names when i start to type in my "To:" area, had it on both my curve 8330 running 4.5 and 5.0

Edit: threw up a link to a pic of compose with recent contact set to OFF

If the person is in your contacts then it will show up (not saying they are, but if they are then that is why they are showing up).

Recent contacts would show (I assume) people who have emailed you recently or who you have emailed recently, regardless of whether they are in your contact list or not.

so that would be why i start to type in someones email and they pop up. HA! okay, maybe i didnt have that with my curve then heehee

I do not have this option on my verizon Tour. But it does bring up a list of previous contacts emailed when I start typing in the To: field.

I do have this option on my Verizon Tour. I never noticed it before and it defaults to on. Running 5.0.0.230.

right, so after checking me 8520, 8900 and 9500, none of them have this option, however it does do it anyway (just on its own), so i guess thats just weird!!

The one I really miss is the SMS and Email Inboxes {Combined} not sure why is missing on .348 (Javelin) but I for sure WANT IT BACK!

I have it on y Alltel 8330 running a 5.0.0.230/344 Hybrid OS. It is a pretty clutch feature imo.

I have a Tour, but do not see this option on the menu. When I start typing an email address on the "TO" no previous address show up. This feature would be nice to have. I have 4.7.161 on my tour. Anyone know what version u need to have in order to have this feature?

Sometimes it gets annoying! I knew about this for awhile, I'm running .351 V7.11 w/.191 radio on my 9630!

like i stated above....I have the option and my curve is running 5.0.0.230 as a base. That must be the issue judging from the amount of voters DO have it. I am guessing there a quite a bit more ppl that have a OS newer than .230 :)

There is either two reasons that I do not have this on my Verizon Tour 9630. First I am running 4.7.1.161 and I cannot find the option. It is either because it is a 5.0 option or because I don't use SMS and Email in a Combined box.

My Tour with the stock OS does not have it. But it may be becuase I am a BES user.

I do not have it on my Storm. Not sure if it was there prior to going to version 5. I have only had my blackberry for a couple of months now and didn't know about this option. Would be a nice feature to have though.

Poll needs another option:
- not needed because contact field auto-populates from address book anyways.

Unless the poster had something else in mind (e.g. maybe if you don't know the contact at all it might be nice to see recent contacts you've emailed and just forgot).

I'm on a VZW Tour -- definitely did not come up on old OS. Upgraded to .61 this weekend -- its not an option on my device currently
