The popular cross platform instant messaging client Whatsapp has received a small update to version 2.9.6518.0 and although the new features are not huge they will come in very handy for some of you folk in countries where your native language was not supported.

The updates include:

  • Automatic chat history backup
  • Various bug fixes
  • Added languages - Brazilian, Portuguese, Simplified/Traditional Chinese

I for one can't live without Whatsapp due to still having friends on other platforms - they will see sense one day!

Are you using the app to stay in touch with your non BlackBerry buddies? Sound off in the comments.

Yes Thank you so much! I don't know what i would do if i had to go through the horror of a "first" post ...

Yet when I upgraded it asked for permission to record using Microphone. So looks like it is coming soon.

there is no "big" issue - just unmerge those that have troubles - well, at least that's a fix for now....

Yep I can confirm that compose new message from the hub works in this latest update. Did not work for me on the previous version.

Still can't change the wallpaper. I was hoping that whatsapp in Z10 will bring different whatsapp. Well... :(

Glory Z10

Anyone else notice a huge performance increase? Or is it just me? Switching screens within the app now flies with close to zero lag.

Nice update, I use WhatsApp all the time it's another reason why I don't use BBM as it's cross platform. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever used BBM in the 3 years I've been a blackberry user!!

Not big watsapp user I use it more when I'm traveling to the USA on wifi to avoid roaming charges. Besides that my plan includes unlimited sms and mms.

BBM is sooooo much better than Whatsapp, but Whatsapp is necessary nowadays...unfortunately!

Still empty WhatsApp contact list although I have close to 1000 BlackBerry local contacts. I wonder when this problem will be addressed.

Have you tried a simple "refresh contact list" within the app? That solved my contact list that was missing most of my contacts.

Loving the new update. I have had an issue since I installed it the first time on my Z10 and it still persists with all updates. I have a few entries at the top of my favourites list that refuse to be arranged alphabetically. Even though they are in my phone book names and everything. I tried deleting them and refreshing, un installing and re installing whatsapp and they still appear on top.

Any advice???

Why would someone use this instead of Gtalk or some other IM app? I like the idea of being able to carry on a chat via my desktop.

Z10 via T-Mobile (10.0.10.85)

Anyone know why HD video is not compressed before sending like it happens on iPhone ? It says the max you can send is 16mb. Unless there is something I am missing here ?

I'm annoyed that on the Q10 Whatsapp has no Whatsapp symbol (with the 10.1 that's shipped with it) :(

Yes, I am communicating with my non blackberry contacts through whatsapp. Works flawlessly!

The Whatsapp team has to be commended for constantly updating their app it shows that they actually give a damn about the end user. Now if only One Louder would release a BB10 version of Tweetcaster

Hey,
I had installed wa, and my battery life was very bad (1/2day). After I deleted it, I can play a whole day with my z10 ;-)
Is it possible that wa eats the battery? Or am I the only one how notice it?

Not sure if it is this update but I can now use Blaq to share a tweet by WhatsApp, which is now an option when u press the share symbol. Believe it was not.

does anyone actually have notifications on thei whatsapp ??

ok so i get that red banner on the app , but never anything on the hub
i would love it if it integrated with the hub

i tried reinstalling the app , everything is updated ,, but nothing at all
is there a chance for an update to bring hub interegation
or is hub exlusive to bm , facebook ( very very badly ) and texts

I do use what's app to stay in touch with a few people but I find it incredibly unreliable... very good sometimes and a total waste of time on others... i just try to convince my friends to stay on BlackBerry

Using 10.1.0.1627, after update 2 whatsapp in the hub. Someone found a solution ?

I still have the 'new message notification' showing on the WhatsApp icon all the time. When I first boot the phone (Z10) it’s ok, but as soon as I receive my first message it shows the red asterisk badge on the app icon and doesn't go away until I reboot the phone again.

Also find that the custom notification sound I set keeps reverting to default all the time.

Anyone else having these issues? (or a solution :)

WhatsApp doesn't let me change my profile. There us no option to change my name or anything. BBM is so much better and soon I will be able to talk to everyone on BBM again :) bye bye shitty whatsapp!!
