We've updated our CrackBerry Android app with some important fixes

Mobile Nations Apps
By Phil Nickinson on 15 May 2014 03:48 pm EDT

A quick heads up for those of you rocking the official CrackBerry App on Android— we've pushed out an update today with a number of important fixes. You're going to want to make sure you download this one, particularly if you've seen increased data usage or are using the widget on your home screen. The fixes apply to all the editorial (ie not the Tapatalk-esque one) apps for all our Mobile Nations sites, including Connectedly, Android Central, iMore and WPCentral.

Here's the deal:

As we mentioned a couple days ago on Google+, we'd discovered a bug in Android regarding the way a widget writes to disk. As in it wasn't, and it should have been, and so the widget was redownloading items over and over. We've fixed it that bug, so you should see background data use drop.

We've also made some significant changes to memory use and caching in general, which should speed up the app a bit altogether. And for older/lower end devices, we've improved memory handling, which should alleviate crashes those devices were seeing.

Also, we've fixed links that were trying to open YouTube, even if they had no business opening YouTube. And we've done a few UI tweaks — swiping between stories, fixes for some Samsung phones, and other general good stuff.

You can download any of the Mobile Nations Android apps from these Google Play links. (And we'll have the one in BlackBerry World updated shortly.):

We've updated our CrackBerry Android app with some important fixes

The tiny change log considering the long "to-do" list pending for CB10 app relative to the time between updates and all the complaints in the forums about it. Can't honestly be too happy with the last CB10 update.

Q10SQN100-1/ CB10'n

They didn't update it, Developers from CB made it (fans of BlackBerry not developers paid by BlackBerry)

Posted via CB10

Why would somebody want a Crackberry app on an android device? They don't want a superior device, so why would they want an app that rubs it in?

Posted via Z10

How else are the Android trolls supposed to plague the forums asking for Android apps, features, and UI for their BlackBerry? :P

I think they meant that Blackberry's are supirior to Android devices. I'm not sure in what way, but I'm pretty sure that's what they meant.

Would love to see a pinch feature like in the hub to filter through read/unread articles

Posted via CB10

CB giving preferential treatment to android users, while BlackBerry users still falling behind, would love the pinch feature as seen in the hub, would be a first and would show dedication

I Loving My Q10 more each day

The PSA is appreciated but welcome to the lions den. But an android update when the official BlackBerry 10 CB app gets a minor tweak is a slap.

It doesn't seem CB10 Is a part anyway.

I'd hate to say it but actions speak louder than words. They won't even support their own built for blackberry app that they were soooo proud of in the past. Now they have the can't someone else do it mentality

Posted via CB10

What if someone is an Android user and a BlackBerry user? Universe implodes?

How about fixing the BlackBerry version for Q10? Doesn't uninstall correctly. And app doesn't work after reinstalling it.

Wow sweet update crackberry?! How about making th BlackBerry app better.

T-Mobile Z10STL100-3/ 

New forum feature has just been advertised (include 'grams and tweets), but sorry, only Desktop version, no mobile or the CB app. "Coming soon" or what?!

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

And aside from the added in brackets mention of a possible update for Blackberry coming soon, how does this effect Blackberry users?

Everyone does realize this post was written by Phil, so it is a mobile nations blog post.

Also, the update he is talking about is the android central app in BlackBerry World. I think

Ummm, no. By reading the article it clearly states this is the updated CrackBerry app for Android devices.

~ TheRealFixxxer 

Wonder if anyone will download the Android app? Phil has stated BlackBerry is dead... And that only 2 people will download BBM for Android...

I think making a built for blackberry app is seen as a massive regret from the mobile nations team and they wish it will just go away and push the android crackberry app to blackberry world so they have less to support.

Just my take on things

Posted via CB10

Exactly my point. It feels like the mobile nations team bit off more than they could chew with cb10 and now they want it gone in favour of the easily updated android app flavour that they could conveniently push to BlackBerry world

For the same reason there's an Android app for BlackBerry; some people don't limit their options and are just tech heads. Reading about features of other platforms is a good thing, no?

It brings me back to the blog post Chris had regarding being in a lounge with (I believe) a BlackBerry executive at an airport. When they sat down at the table there was an iPhone pamphlet advertisment, to which the BlackBerry exec made some snide remark to. Chris then decided to ask him if there was anything he had taken away from the new device from Apple but the BlackBerry exec replied with "I haven't even used it".

Fast forward 7 years and here we are. Don't discredit the competition, learn about it and see if there are features of value you could borrow. For us end-users; see if it's worth making the switch.

Nobody is saying don't make an android app. It's their money they can do whatever they want.

Don't insult us by telling us hey we have a better app for BlackBerry for android and we are kinda, sorta sorry that the native app sucks. But hey we are asking the BlackBerry faithful dev's to pitch in and help make it better.

Posted via CB10

Who did I and how did I insult anyone? I was simply making a statement.

But to arbitrarily discount an app because it focuses on the competition is basically saying; "This product is better and no one should be bothered using a conduit to receive information regarding something different."

Hey, I'm a BlackBerry loyalist. Android is cluttered, bloated and fragmented. iOS is just very user unfriendly to me (regardless of it being as big as it is due to the contrary), but I visit Android Central, iMore and WP Central regularly because I like being in the know. The worst thing the flagship BlackBerry fansite could do is stop making apps that are native to other platforms. If people don't have easy access to information regarding BlackBerry the userbase will only dwindle. BlackBerry themselves don't seem to enthusiastic on the marketing front.

My apologies. You meant CB was insulting it's userbase by developing a better app for the competition. That I can't comment on. I have not used the Android app.

So that they can come to the forums and make them miserable.

someone starts a thread about wanting to know how folks are enjoying "insert topic " and after a few posts all the negatives start and then all the arguments start.

Getting less and less fun.

Hmm does the CrackBerry Android app run on BlackBerry 10?......oh Snap! It sure does!

Hey Barracuda enough with the "I see what you did there". It's old and outdated like ios!

 BlackBerry Q10  Keep The Faith 

so android gets apps for each site and we just have crackberry and android no imore WP or Connectedly. *sigh*

The Android apps for all of them probably run on BB10.

Posted via CB10 on Z30 STA100-2 / on O2 UK - Activated on BES10.2.2

Yea your right we probably should just completely give up on native.

That sounds like a great plan..................

Posted via CB10

I use CB10 in my Z30 and this CrackBerry Android app on my Android tablet all the time. Both are great but CB10's forum UX is was nicer than Android's. CB10 is fantastic it is too bad all the CrackBerry users do is whine about it.

Posted via CB10

Seems to me like the devs who helped update the CrackBerry app were asleep at the wheel. Hardly any changes at all but what the hey it still is a nice app.

 BlackBerry Q10  Keep The Faith 

I love how android cb app gets widgets and BB10 cb app gets shit all. Thanks crackberry for leaving us to dry. Yeah yeah I know we just got an update but its absolute crap compared to the android version. Im actually ashamed of crackberry and how they would rather support android than BB10 these days. I really hope somebody from the cb app dev team one day makes the BB10 app equal to the android version...

About all the difference between CB10 and AndroidCentral based apps:
There will always be people who whine about things.
There will always be people, who want everything from everyone and NOW!
There will always be people, who enjoy the current state of things, and will give constructive feedback.
There will always be people, who will optimistically look for the future.
It's a pity, that there are fewer people left, who actually enjoy their LIFE, not all the devices and tech/software stuff.

Guys, stop arguing, enjoy your devices AND your life!

Great, now update the BlackBerry World CB10 app so the right side of the articles don't have the last letter cut off!

Posted via CB10

Don't quite get why this on crackberry as this is about the android site not the BlackBerry one. Do they tell android world or whatever it's called every time they tweak their BlackBerry app. Let's face it if any of us are using Android and BlackBerry phones we are not going to use the BlackBerry to find android content and vice versa. Mobile Nations might be happy clappy embrace all culture but we are not we are crackberry! BlackBerry all the way.
