Never mind. I see that they finally provided pricing info. I understand the need for a subscription for this, but I think I'll just password protect my device and look at other, less expensive options. The website and tracking and things are neat, but frankly, I don't care about it that much. Just want an easy way to remotely wipe my device. That's pretty much it.

I check out the site but does say how to purchase

Posted by support@smrtguard.com Monday, May 18, 2009 1103 days ago

Users can purchase via Google Check out, Paypal, or credit card. Also will be available via Mobihand and CrackBerry store.

Thanks.

Wow this looks like an amazing service. I would get it but I can't justify $3.99/mo on it. If I were a business user I would definitely pick this up (of if I had some spying/stalking to do =P).

From the images it looks like it uses cell towers for the tracking. Is GPS supported for fine tuned locations?

Posted by support@smrtguard.com Monday, May 18, 2009 1103 days ago

It first uses cell info and when GPS chip (if available) is "hot" it will then send using GPS (usually within 20 to 30 seconds).

i don't see what the big deal is about the price...if your Verizon and have there insurance policy you pay around 5 bucks a month for that...then you have to pay 50 bucks to get a new phone...at least with this program you can remote wipe it..even your sd card..i know i got things on there i wouldn't like for just anyone to see..and you can even back it up remotely before you nuke it...nothings lost..plus being able to listen in..track..and know if a different sim card is being used...i would rather pay 44 dollars a year and the cops get the guy that stole my BB...then 5 bucks a month through Verizon and still have to pay 50 for a new one...I've been waiting for this to go public

This is awesome, the price is also very resonable. Might give it a test run.

If detonate the device really worked and really detonated the device that would be so cool and that I would pay for.!!!

Posted by deterrant Monday, May 18, 2009 1103 days ago

why is it so expensive,$44 a year and roblock $10, whats the difference between roblock and SmrtGuard, besides price.

Love the app, love the concept.
BUT to much $$$

I am probably going to pass on this great app idea, because the price it way to high for me.

I am SORRY ;( to say

I'm sure many a meetings have taken places on how research suggests that the target price is justified, if not lower than statistics would allow.

I don't see any information on business package pricing.
Seems to me that this is really where SmrtGuard would make their money actually, yet I don't see the option.

Marketing it to Carriers sounds to me as if they may be flirting with offering tracking for devices, that may have been lost or stolen, as verification to what a customer claims.

Also, as a personal user who would love some of the perks this app can provide, I also wouldn't pay a yearly fee of about $45 for it's use, let alone $3.99 a month.

I notice that in the video he states something along the lines of "For the price of a Starbucks coffee a month", yet as a well rounded consumer I am very tired of hearing these excuses coming from those marketing their products.

As if the consumer doesn't already have many options for consuming that definitely add up to much more than a price of coffee ie: 10 products at the price of a coffee each = "X amount of dollars" a month.
You get the picture.

I would think that a marginal cut in the cost of this app would definitely create a HUGE buzz and might very well find itself on many many devices equaling much money in the pockets of SmrtGuard.

All you should really want to do is get this on devices, cause the potential of this product being able to do much much more in terms of additional capabilities is almost endless. And for that reason I would pay half the price for SmrtGuard in hopes that it would grow to encompass the many capabilities this type of application can have.

my $0.02 worth

Awesome application. Just what a Business Phone like Blackberry deserves. Nokia has similar applications for the Eseries. But i feel this application is a BIT costly.

Love the concept.

Before switching to blackberry, our company (medical business) was issuing E61, E61i and then finally E71 before the switch to RIM. It cames with this totalmobilesecurity phonebak software as a package to swop software for free when upgrade and it is not even a subscription.

you all are a bunch cheap free loading kids. you want every thing free. get over it this a dam good price. i love the eavesdropping feature leave your bb in the room and listen to your wife cheat sweet.

Posted by Sparkmaster Tuesday, May 19, 2009 1102 days ago

IF they are free loading kids, don't you think they would purchase this???

Considering I am self employed and not a free loading cheap kid, I do believe this is a bit pricey also.

Posted by Roweazie Tuesday, May 19, 2009 1102 days ago

Before you accused as "cheat free loading kids" do your self a favor and research. As already stated above, why should we pay more/monthly rate when another application can do just the same or better?

If your wife is cheating on you, its because your not doing it right. ahahahaaa

Great Application, great GUI but the price is a joke!!! Why should i pay $3.99 per month if there are also alternatives like Bak2U or Roblock???? I use both on two different devices and for $9,99 i don't care about a feature more or less! Roblocks Support could be better but Bak2U has a great Support. So what do i need more?

Posted by ljcandee Tuesday, May 19, 2009 1102 days ago

Lots of great features but the GPS tracking is spotty with no way to know when the device is actually being tracked - seems to be random in terms of when the tracking actually takes place and when the tracked locations appear on the map. Could use some beefed up documentation in this area explaining the feature better.

Thanks for that feedback. We are making our support site better with detailed documentation.

If you have any questions, definitely email us at support@smrtguard.com

Thanks again.

Never had an app (any version of it) kill battery life so much. Did not matter whether 'follow me' was on or not.

Best thing I ever did was delete this app. Unfortunate as it is useful

I rather pay for a standalone then a monthly subscription like for bak2u software. At least it dont just protect my blackberry bold but also my mac and other phones and all without a monthly fee. That makes more sense when I switch devices also and not tie to any monthly fee.

Posted by support@smrtguard.com Tuesday, May 19, 2009 1102 days ago

Thanks for the feedback. What we also offer is the OTA data backup and restore, in addition to all the remote track and wipe features.

bak2u is wipe and track. SmrtGuard is track, wipe, AND OTA restore the data to your replacement!

Posted by Mikelowll Wednesday, May 20, 2009 1101 days ago

The focus here is that it is standalone and yours is a subscription that works out so much more. i don't sell for bak2u or roblock but their business model makes more sense as a standalone for us consumers than a subscroption service where the additional feature is just ota backup? that makes it a whopping 50% more and for 12 months? Theirs are forever and I can still make money when i sell the bold and the software to the new owner.

You may like to see this video instead from bak2u where they have ota backup too. My friend's company got it for FREE when they have the antitheftt for their bold too.
