Welcome Connectedly to the Mobile Nations family!

Introducing Connectedly: The premier resource and community for the connected world of smart devices, wearables and the “Internet of Things”
By Kevin Michaluk on 28 Apr 2014 03:03 pm EDT

As promised, today I am extremely excited to announce the rebranding of Smartwatch Fans to Connectedly!

Along with the great new name we are expanding the coverage to include the full scope of next-generation of smart devices and connected products hitting the consumer market today — think connected lifestyle (health trackers, wearables), connected home, connected toys, connected automotive, and more! Be sure to visit the Connectedly is Open for Business welcome post for the full manifesto.

The site is hosted at Connectedly.com and we also have Connected.ly which will be used as the URL shortener for story links that appear on social sharing sites like twitter.

Nobody guessed the Connectedly name right in our guess the new name contest. Many of you got close, but no cigar. It's not surprising though - it took us over a year to land on the Connectedly name. Personally, I really love it. It's actually similar to CrackBerry in a lot of ways. It is a word in the dictionary (there can be only one connectedly!). It's highly relevant to the subject matter, but doesn't just spell it out directly. It's fun word to say. It's memorable. And somehow, just like CrackBerry, it starts with a C, ands in a Y and has a double consonant. Weird. Must be fate!

Be sure to visit Connectedly, check out the welcome post, and start visiting on a regular basis. On May 1st we'll kick off our launch celebration contest - you won't want to miss it!

Welcome Connectedly to the Mobile Nations family!

It's a bad tongue twister of a name, but good to see that there is still such an overabundance of CB team "suckups" in here.

"CrackBerry" rocks on multiple levels...."Connectedly" is a mess.

Cue the "you're a troll" maturity....

Founding Member of "Club Z30 "..... the most exclusive club in mobile

Hey Freddy, you rocking the BlackBerry Blue Tooth speakers yet?

Guess I must have missed who was the winner.

 Posted by the Crackberry Pirate 

OJ....nah I am not "PC" enough to win anything here - I have a better chance of winning at the track.

Founding Member of "Club Z30 "..... the most exclusive club in mobile

I remember some people saying that to me when we first launched CrackBerry.com. And boy oh boy, how wrong they were proved.

Connectedly rocks. Grows on you too. Give it a day. And.. read the post... it's like CrackBerry in so many ways. New names often get that sort of negative reaction initially... like iPad, etc. Little time and the love for the name grows. Connectedly has all the factors of a winning brand.

Yeah, will tell the story soon on a future Connectedly blog post or podcast. Stay tuned for it! Took us over a year to land on a name / brand that we liked.

Of course not. Over a year of looking at, brainstorming and vetting a variety of names without success, before we finally came upon Connectedly (Adam actually suggested it, and I immediately said THAT'S IT!). Then it was just a matter of acquiring the names (which were owned by other people and being squatted on) and locking it all down.

How about when we slam on Kevin then he'll be known as "Dis-connectly Kevin"... You be "dis'ing" da man...

Of course when they push the "Nest" app, it'll change to "Con-nest-edly Kevin." Until Apple releases another cool device and then it will switch to "iCon-next-edly Kevin."

What a joke.

Careful! You'll get an infraction for speaking like that around here even when you make it clear with the wink ; ) that you are being humorous.

Another wink just so the mods realise this is humorous too! ; )

Careful! Z10 in action!

Too many syllables in the name....
I more

All have 2 syllables, easy to roll of the tongue.

 Posted by the Crackberry Pirate 

Uggghhh.. your opinion no longer counts. Black-Ber-ry and Crack-Ber-ry are both three syllables :p

Also... what I do know now based on your opining is that you'll never forget the name and visit often. Yay! :)

All kidding aside. I think that name is actually fitting and great as a brand. Just that as a website name, I can see it being misspelled often when typing into the browser because of not having been exposed to the name often. The community is an international community and many speak English as a second language.
But with time, that will change and it'll be fine. Am a fan of the connected(dot)ly though.

Posted via CB10

English syllables have to include a vowel, so berry cannot be split into two syllables and remains just one, so BlackBerry is indeed two syllables and not three.

English lesson over class. ; )

Careful! Z10 in action!

Guess I half managed to get myself out of an awkward situation then.

Okay, I've learned a valuable lesson myself.

 Posted by the Crackberry Pirate 

You need to retake that English lesson. That rule is for phonetics, not spelling lol.
The "y" in is actually a vowel "sound" in that world. Any dictionary will tell you that BlackBerry is a 3 syllable word ahahhaah.
To borrow from your comment, your English lesson was over too soon, I guess.

Posted via CB10

I read my Oxford English dictionary too quickly. Missed out where it said vowel sound and just saw the vowel part.

Lol! That's what you get when you don't pay close attention to detail I guess! ; )

Careful! Z10 in action!

If we going to be hipster as hell with names how about we name it fancywatches #fancywatches #yolo. Connectedly sounds like a forum I'll go to deal with miscellaneous connections. WiFi, miracast, bluetooth, even ethernet oh well your sites your rules. Enjoy the massive confusion.

Posted via z30 STA100-5 the only high end business device on the market

It actually covers miscast, wifi, etc. So that reinforces it more than smartwatchfans

Posted via CB from my LE

Interesting a forum dedicated to cover what it is already covered on all the other forums... Except on all the other forums compatibility and connectivity are discussed on a device basis.

Based on comments to previous articles it is impossible to get an infraction when commenting on an article.

Posted via CB10

Sorry but I totally dislike this name. Connected nation was by far nicer and more miningfull.

Posted via CB10

*cringes* It sounds like a cheap startup company.

But like Crackberry Kevin says, hopefully it'll grow on me! :)

Not loving it. But who knows, will it be like "Twitter" that at the time seemed kinda dumb, or will it be like "Whatsapp" that, STILL, after all these years, is still by far the worst name of any digital product I have ever used.

Posted via CB10

Gotta say I think I should be nominated as the official name creator around this camp!

Kick-Tek would be a far superior name and that's all I have to say about that.

 BlackBerry Q10  Keep The Faith 

Lmao....ahh forget the syllable police, at least you know the difference between a good name from a name that will grow on you Mr. Observation Junkie.

 BlackBerry Q10  Keep The Faith 

wow connectedly and this should be the quote for the website "where nothing is forbidden & Every thing is connected

Congratulations Mobile Nations on the addition to the family! I'm sure the name will grow on me.

Posted via CB10

Apps are coming soon. Android version will be done asap, and we'll port that over to BB10 right away as well. iOS version will be done shortly after and submitted. Will get a native BB10 one up soon, but first have to get updates out the door on the native CB10 app (we're going to be putting that out soon on github to get dev community involved). Windows Phone app will come later for Connectedly (will try and get it sooner than later though). Gotta have the apps though!

Could do better with name. It growing on me doesn't mean it still flows on tongue

Zee coolest flicking smartphone evah

We're going to be growing Connectedly in a big manner of the next year and beyond. As Chief Media Officer of Mobile Nations, I'll be overseeing Connectedly and laying out the strategy, bigger editorial initiatives, etc. and you'll definitely see me posting on there a lot too (I love the connected space). Adam will still be managing the daily flow on the site (and focusing content-wise on the topics he loves, like smartwatches), but in terms of contributors we're not putting any one person as having the "main voice" of the site. The nature of the connected devices market is very broad, so we plan to build up a lot of contributing experts and personalities on Connectedly so that for every topic there's a go to person or group of people who are extremely knowledgable on it. Read the Welcome Post I put up there - explains the plan.

Well I have to say, I was going with something like werables, but it wasn't going to fit like connectedly in the things that the website is going to be covering. A lot of negativity with so many people and don't blame them the name is not an easy fit but Mobile Nation got it right

If they intend to cover all kinds of gadgets and the things of the "Internet-of-things" instead of just wearabkes (or even narrower: smartwatches), then the name might not be too bad.

Engadget and Gizmodo (lol) are already taken. Who thought initially these names might take off?

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

This comment made it all clear to me for some reason. Explains why such a silly name, it worked for those two quite well, why not for Connectedly (my auto correct is going to hate that) as well?

Crackberry is closer to BlackBerry with a two letter change.

Chronotech might be more appropriate .

Chrono from the Greek 'Chronos' meaning time ,if I'm not mistaken.

And Tech short for technology.

That's just my opinion.

Crackberry have made their decision.

It's not too late to change your mind. :)

Posted via CB10

Well, I quite like the name. Sure, it's a made up word, but I see it as an abbreviation of Connected and Technology (or technologically), which is exactly what it sounds like the site is there to cover.

Really looking to the new site - lots of great possibilitles.

Posted via the Android CrackBerry App!

Grammatically it's also an adverb made out of a past participle and the adverbial suffix "-ly".

Living sustainably, living connectedly.

Might even become a buzzword under the right circumstances.

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

Congrats!!! Now... what to do with the smartwatchfans domain? sell it to someone who would put it to use OR delete it off the face of the web? Lol

Posted via CrackBerry 10 (CB10) application using my BlackBerry Q10.

Good luck! Maybe the name will grow on me.. it's already better than "Smartwatches" as I have no interest in them but I am interested in Heart-rate monitors, NFC enabled stuff, Wi-Fi direct and screen share capabilities etc..

It's like Nintendo naming the "Revolution" Wii. Everyone hated that name and still does to this day. Enough paint fumes and anything sounds good I guess. So what do they do to improve upon that stroke of genius? They take a name that sounds like "Pee", add another letter, and now it sounds like "Pee Yoo", which judging by its lackluster sales was named correctly. Maybe Rejectedly will suffer a similar fate unless its brain children scurry back to the drawing board ASAP.

I used my almighty Z30 to create this CrackBerry madness!

How about "Connectively"?

You got "connectivity" and "collectively", since these devices are meant for you to stay connected to your collective. :p

Google implants...

Google Now was yesterday, it's "Google inside"

(The real meaning of Android? Turn us into mindless cyborg droids or what....? ;-) )

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

It's not constructive criticism without offering a suggestion: W.A.T.C.H. Wearables And Technology Creating History.

I used my almighty Z30 to create this CrackBerry madness!

I agree, but in the end, it's their website. I will be reading it, any name it has.

Maybe not talking about it to friends though: the 'd-ly' are bad letters to out next to each other, and always sound wrong. :P

Posted via CB10 on my Z30

Thank you sir! And I came up with that one without the resources that CrackBerry has at their disposal.

I used my almighty Z30 to create this CrackBerry madness!

So, no one guessed the name. And there were a lot of wild guesses. To me that says very few people will feel 'connectedly' to this name.
Should you not prefer a name that does not feel like an awful grammatical mistake?

I know, this one technically is connected to the subject, but just adding -ly to a very general term to me just says the brainstorming session must have been very short.

Also it does NOT fit in with the rest of the MN naming scheme at all, no matter what way you twist it. I have a feeling this name will not grow on me at all.

BlackBerry 10 signed.

Btw I do not mean to be a downer, I am sure the actual content will be up to your usual standards. I just feel with this name it will be difficult to attract new readers.

BlackBerry 10 signed.

Bah.. You better focus on CB and on BB Kevin: interviews, articles and news for us are needed! I know you would be able to discover how many new devices there will be by the end of the year, detailed infos about new projects/agreements..
I know it's always the same thing repeating itself every couple of months..but..we miss you. At least. I do.

Posted via CB10

Are you gonna cover implants, too?!

RFID chips, dog tags, wearable payment facilities, ID implant chips, barcode tattoos ahem.... finally the Mark of the Beast?

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

BBM Channel maybe? To many apps to deal with. Until then add to home screen shortcut will do. BB10 browser works awesome.

Posted via CB10 on my BlackBerry Z30-5

What a pants name. Smartwatch Fans was actually better.

If it's going to be a wearable tech blog, what about WearIT or TechWear.

Posted via CB10 on Z30 STA100-2 / on O2 UK - Activated on BES10.2.1

Old name died because it was specific to smart watch, how is this more than wearable tech?

Posted via CB10

Stopped too soon. You were probably only one more case of beer away from a really good name.

Posted via CB10

Regardless the name, I am sure it will be quite informative as these devices are growing in popularity. I will be checking it out.

Connectedly sounds ok, I doubt it'll grow on me. Crackberry out of of the box made perfect sense but connectedly doesn't stand out to me. Idk guess that's just me

Posted via CB10

I think you should have a made a poll and asked the community what they think of the name, or ask them to choose between a few. After all it is the community you are doing this for and it is them who will be using it.
Congratulations on the site but I have to say the name is Fugly.

Posted via CB10

Question is motherfukers what watch can we use with our bb10/7 devices. Also newsflash anyone wearing a smart watch is without a doubt a show off douche. Just saying. Don't believe me? Make a poll. :D

Posted via z30 STA100-5 the only high end business device on the market

Showing off what exactly? Lol. A watch is a watch. If you like a Walmart brand ticker - go for it. I'm sure that makes no statement whatsoever.

Posted via CB from my LE

Point proven haha also not that there is anything wrong with the wall mart brands you are seemingly so familiar with. I mean is the choice of millions. My point is you want to look all hip and nerdy with you toys (smart watches, and phones) be my guest. I personally would rather be classy and buy a nice looking rolex instead of an overpriced, oversized wristband with basically the same functionality as my watch and the same prize maybe a little expensive. Oh well you get what you pay for.

Posted via z30 STA100-5 the only high end business device on the market

I have to also comment that the name doesn't hit me well. Then again neither does subject. It's sort of like 3D TV. Something missing. I don't know what. That all said I wish the nation all success. In this increasingly connected age, information is changing us incredibly more than we realize now. Connectedly may tie it together.

Posted via CB10

Ironic that the parents surname Schreck means "fright", "shock" or "scare" in German.

There is really no excuse for weak passwords or lax security.

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

How about "connectedly"ing the apps so I don't have to open multiple apps to check out stories. I would love a check box opt-in / opt-out for all your sites. I can see myself following Connectedly and CrackBerry. But no real interest (and by interest I mean time) in keeping up with iMore, WPCentral, or Android Central. Although I confess to periodically looking at Android. My wife has one - unfortunately. Ironic if the Connectedly app isn't connected to anything but itself.

Posted via CB10

Kevin and CrackBerry it appears that the people don't care too much for the new name!

Why don't you let the Mobile Nations vote on a name?

 BlackBerry Q10  Keep The Faith 

Wrong name. Hard phoneme for non English speakers. Your audience is from all over. Should have been easier.

From my Z30.

Are we going to get a BlackBerry 10 app for Connectedly? I just don't wanna go to website...app is much better!

Posted via CB10 with lovely Z10...

But the question is will there be a BlackBerry app?... Probably not!

Posted via a mess called CB10

I think the name is fine. I find it ironic that its for things that Blackberry in large part has zero showings in.

QNX. And CrackBerry is only one part of the Mobile Nations conglomerate (the overlord is watching it all). ;)

Posted via CB10

I see you still have a bunch of places where you need to change name and logos across Mobiles Nations website, popups and stuff, but you're getting there! ;)

Believe that for people like me, where English is the second language, this name could have been chosen better ... just my opinion. Good luck with the new site! :)

"Connectedly" doesn't roll off the tongue. Very poor choice. Just reading the name "Connectedly" doesn't even give a hint at what it's referring to.

"CrackBerry" is great because it rolls with "BlackBerry".

"Connectedly" rolls with "Stupidly".

Posted via CB10

Maybe a better cb10 app would restore our faith in the ideas realm... The website looks like a page from 1999 and the app just sucks. But I like the people here kind of like hotel California...

Posted via a mess called CB10

me thinks, the long brainstorm has affected thee
to name the domain connectedly
does not roll off the tongue
nor does it sound like much fun
like thus, berry backlash is an inevitability

I have the blackberry style 9760, I was wondering if there was any way that I could get blackberry os 10 onto my phone. I appreciate any help and any response, thanks.

Had "Connectedly" on my computer and twice now when I opened it up, my Norton antivirus has stopped a virus both times. What's up with that?? Since it's the second time this has happened, I've deleted Connectedly (unfortunately) off my computer and also off my BB Q10. :( :(
