If you're a Verizon Wireless customer, you're likely used to seeing their app store preloaded onto your device. Come January 2013 though, that app store will be no more. Verizon has announced they'll be removing the store from devices and no longer supporting it:
In January of 2013, Verizon will start the process of removing the Verizon Apps application from ALL compatible Android and Research in Motion devices. We anticipate completing this process by March 27, 2013. But, no need to fear. Most apps existing on Verizon Apps are already available on multiple app storefronts, such as Google PLAY, Amazon and BlackBerry® App World. Business applications submitted to Verizon’s Private Applications Store for Business will continue to be available for purchase and download to enterprise customers.
Needless to say, I doubt anyone will mind the preloads going missing. However, if you did manage to sign up for any particular services through the app store, you can find further details on when to expect support to be finalized over at the Verizon blog. In addition to that, Verizon will be letting customers know directly as well.

Good!!
I personally HATE preloaded carrier crap. This isn't a PC and thus I don't EVER want my carrier putting stuff on MY phone.
Hopefully this is a wave of the future to come and Rogers' will follow suit.

I REALLY hope AT&T does the same. Enough of the carriers forcing crap down our throats.

Awesome news, and willingly too? I hope Verizon isn't really up to something more sinister than pre-loaded apps... :S

Does this also hint at the end of the Verizon/ Skype for blackberry branded mobile devices exclusive?? hmm this also within the BB10 Launch window. let's see #wishful_thinking

Anyone noticed that Verizon mentioned "Amazon" before "BlackBerry" App World?
I'm horrified; Amazon does not even have a branded smartphone (yet?)...
RIM better get that BB10 out into the marketplace soon without further delays, their BlackBerry mindshare is shrinking faster than ever...

We might not have seen an Amazon branded smartphone... but maybe the guys at Verizon have.

Re: Skype, I kind of assumed that Microsoft, now that they own Skype, is going to pull back from a lot of non-MS platforms, particularly the less-popular ones and particularly the ones that compete directly with MS Phone 8 or whatever they call it these days.
Of course, they can't abandon the iBots and Droidheads, so I doubt they will stop development on those platforms. But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Skype on BB went missing, unfortunately.
Rootbrian Nov 8, 2012 at 3:45 am
I think you're right about that. MS owns skype, they're ridding MSN/Windows Live Messenger for skype by March also, so yeah, skype, if not on BB10, we'll know why. DAMN YOU MICROPOOP!!

It's good to know that I'm NOT the only person that won't miss these preload crapps. I'm looking forward to the free space on my BB10. Outside of the "My Verizon" I don't use them.....
