Verizon BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230

Ok Ok...I know there's probably a larger contingent of Verizon subscribers reading this that would rather see Verizon issue the press release about the BlackBerry Tour 9630 over the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230, but today it's the 3G-enabled Flip that gets the spotlight. It's going to hit stores on June 19th. See full press release below. Anybody out there going to pick this baby up?

Verizon Officially Announces the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230

I'll be picking this phone up. I've got the 8130 now and want the form factor of the 8230. I like suretype, i'm used to it and the larger buttons on the Flip will be easier to use.

The form factor is what i'm most interested in. I'm not the type of person that is constantly in the "BB prayer position". I use my phone to check/send a few e-mails/texts, make a couple calls, check the weather and scores, snap a couple pics and then get outside to do stuff!

The size and functionality is what I'm after.

"BB prayer position". Ha! That's great. I just got my first BB, and it's a 8130. I love it. I may have to look into the 8230 when it comes time to upgrade.

I compared this baby next to my storm in our store yesterday and with the flip closed this is suprisingly thicker than my storm or the new env3. I dont understand why they couldnt make it thinner, more like the choc 3.

This leads me to believe they'll be announcing the Tour around the first of July, since it has a similar mid-month timeline to the Pearl Flip... and they wouldn't announce the 9630 AND the Pearl Flip at the same time, since obviously the 9630 would eclipse everything else (except maybe for an official Storm 2 announcement). Although the Tour wasn't announced today, it gives us a good idea as to when an official announcement is coming.

Your guess on the "Tour" announcement is incorrect. As I have stated over and over and over again, we normally get our training on advanced devices such as Blackberrys, Windows Mobile Phones, MiFi, Netbooks, etc, well over a month in advanced. There is absoloutley, positively, no mention or no training on any "Tour", "Storm 2", or any other Blackberry device, period. The only other PDA we have on our radar is the HTC Diamond which is currently available through our phone reps and online.

Think that this might possibly get VZW in the "Announcement" mood???? Maybe, possibly, get another announcement on another phone before the weekend perhaps???

I'll be picking one of these up for my wife. She's always wanted a blackberry, but also has always preferred flip phones. Plus the suretype is much better for one handed use than a full qwerty, which is something she requires.

I do Like the pearl and pearl flip but dont think ill be droping my storm for it anytime soon the tour however would be another story.. this is still cool news though

On the build? Is it going to be solid like the earlier Pearls, or more plasticy and cheap feeling like some of the flips?

Also, the other flips aren't 3G are they?

There's a youtube vid of someone reviewing the Bell and Telus versions of the 8230, and they said that the build quality is better than the GSM version. No play in the hinge was the biggest thing they apparently noticed.

My sales rep at USCC was telling me they are supposed to have this phone at the same time. Very interesting, since USCC usually releases phones way after VZW.

Much like everyone else i have been waiting for a new BB.I like the store but it doesnt fit my hectic lifestyle of being a bus taker, future mom to be, and all that other stuff. and for the most part i like Slim like flap-phones. the only thing i wish for its a slightly faster web broswer the one if my 8330 hasnt been so great lately.

When pantech came out with the wm flip phone it wasn't a big success.
I think this is going to be a flop.
The US is so enamored with flip phones while overseas candybar style phones have been the popular design.

Anyone notice that when open its bigger than a curve?

I wanted to get this phone for my wife but the color choices by VZW are always so lame! What happened to the purple one I saw on some blog somewhere... Oh well, I guess they won't be getting any of my cash this time around.

Pantech didn't have push e-mail or a BES like offering. To say the pearl flip will fail because the pantech failed is like saying Toyota is going to fail because GM failed.

Don't confuse causal with correlation.

I have ZERO interest in this phone. Hey Blackberry, 1998 called.....they want their FLIP phone back! I have had three flip phones in the last 12 years and they were all junk. This is a horrible move.

I am a customer I am sick of them and there God like attitude.... Ooooooo Lets release a phone that been out for a while how about you take you nice network and halfway decent Customer service and stop making everything a big dam secret.

Believe it or not I know a lot of folks that still want flip phones. To each his own I guess. I don't care for the phone only cause of the basic silver color. VZW needs better color choices.

I think the flip is good news and will help blackberry reach new customers, thus sell more apps, and be good for those of us who love qwerty bb's. I will wait for the Tour
but my wife is very happy to get the 8230. Now an official release date for the tour is in order. Yeeeeaahhhh!!!

I think the flip will have its niche market.
calizae74 said it best to each his own.

I had the 8130 and then got a second line to get the Storm. Althought I liked the 8130, I am sooooooo ready for the Tour to come out to replace my 8130. The flip looks nice, but I don't want another Suretype keyboard.....announce the Tour please!!!!!!!

This is targeted at converting non-BB users to a BB (Pearl / Pearl Flip)

Personally I love having custom apps, I love e-mail access, web browsing, unlimited text/data for $30/mo

But I like the Pearl cause I can text with one hand. I would get the flip for the bigger screen. I don't like the Curve because its too big and I don't like the Storm because its a touch-screen. I have yet to try a Bold.

The Storm, the Pearl Flip ... When is Verizon going to come out with something that truly sounds incredible (the Tour is a start!). If I didn't love their Customer Service so much I'd jump ship. gave me a free flip and T-Mo sent me a check for $75 for trading in the old one! 3G enabled RIMs...smoke and mirrors. 3g doesn't deliver your email any faster, it's all in the processor.
