Some late night activity just sprung up in the CrackBerry forums on word that Verizon's BlackBerry Tour site has been updated, which confirms the previously rumored July 12th in-store availability date and also allows for pre-ordering of the device. At the time of this post the new site seems to still be propagating through (the site isn't showing up properly for everyone just yet and the preordering isn't quite working - it should be good to go soon), but you will want to jump over and take a look (click here if the main link below isn't working for you).

The updated site also features a short Bloggers on the Tour video which features a couple of CrackBerry.com quotes about the BlackBerry Tour..... SWEET! The BlackBerry Tour definitely is the smartphone sooo many CDMA users have been waiting for. The release of the BlackBerry Tour is so close now. I guess it's about time we get ready for a CrackBerry contest huh? Stay tuned!!! If you're excited for the Tour, say CrackBerry!

Verizon BlackBerry Tour Site Gets Updated: July 12th Release Official; Tour Pre-Ordering Available

Like the Phillies reference?? Hope I'm not the only one from Philadelphia. In the Blogger on the Tour video the Tour looks all blacked out, it looks sick "murdered" out.

NO SURE WHERE TO GO TO GET A QUESTION ANSWERED,BUT THOUGHT
I WOULD TRY HERE. I HAVE A BB 8330. I CAN TAKE A PICTURE
BUT HOW DO I SEND IT. ALL I SEE IS BY EMAIL/MESSENGER.
SOMEONE SAID I HAD TO HAVE MMS. SO WHERE IS THAT AND HOW DO I GET THAT?

Oh man, it is finally here!!! I stayed up late to confirm if VZW updated their website tonight and I knew CB would have an updated link. I can't believe the pre-order is not working yet. I'll try couple more time before I call it a night. But I will be up early trying again. Can't wait to get my hands on this baby!!

Yesterday I received my 3rd Storm replacement and am now wondering should I get the Tour from Verizon or leave them altogether and get it from Sprint..

Sad thing is I left Tmobile in November for the Storm and that was a horrible mistake :(

I'm even considering the iphone 3G, but I love my blackberries

I would definitely stay with Verizon. Don't base your decision off of how bad you experience may have been with the Storm, as it is mostly the phones fault. In terms of coverage, you cannot beat Verizon.

Sprint is horrendous. I cannot believe how long it took me to switch from them. I used to have to go all the way to the third floor of my building and stand next to a window to get one bar of service, and it still usually dropped the call.

With my current job I am constantly traveling, and have had little to no trouble with Verizon's coverage. In fact the only time I did have any trouble, was when I was in the middle of nowhere while down in Texas. Verizon definitely has its shortcomings, but you CANNOT beat their coverage.

That is before a rebate. I think I remember seeing a leaked image of a rebate form showing a $70 discount (mail in rebate)

Crackberry Crackberry Crackberry!! <3 <3 <3 I have been anxiously waiting for this phone for months now! Every time you guys update us with some juicy Tour info, I repost on Facebook and retweet on Twitter! A HUGE thank you to the Crackberry Team for keeping us updated on this device, like clock work, and a special thanks for keeping us all drooling and wanting more!

I am eligible for my new every two, but when I click the "Upgrade Phone" option the Tour won't show up, any suggestions?

I'm in the same boat. I have my storm and am looking to use my new every two and am unable to use it to get my furthur discount. What gives? Maybe this storm is meant to be...

the rep is telling me to wait it out and see if it shows up later on. Its funny that new customers and pre order now but the ones with existing lines cant get the crap to work. Ive been on the phone and online with these reps and i cant get any answers.

I am in the same boat as other people trying to upgrade. The reps on the phone can't do it, and it doesn't show up under the upgrade option.

The rep finally came back and said that the pre-order was for new customers only.

So, I spend over a hundo a month on service. Pay my bill on time. And the "perks" go to new customers? If this thing is sold out on the 12th, hello AT&T Bold..

”So, I spend over a hundo a month on service. Pay my bill on time. And the "perks" go to new customers? If this thing is sold out on the 12th, hello AT&T Bold..”

Bye Bye , shall I hold the door for you?

Every pre order is for new customers only on all carriers. Because you pay your bill on time does not make you special. It makes you responsible and that my friend gets you nothing! Oh, preordering is not a “perk” it is a marketing ploy…

Apologies if this was already answered, but I did try and upgrade via the link and was also unable to do so. I called the local store, and they said they couldn't pre-order for me, but if I called customer service, they would.

Called customer service back and was told that because I am technically still in the middle of my contract (expires 12/5/09, but they moved my NE2 date to today), I can't pre-order. However, if my renewal date had passed (and I was going month-to-month, for example), I would be able to pre-order.

Don't know if that would work as that doesn't apply to me, but just adding some more information/confusion to this :)

How much is this going to retail for? I made the mistake of buying the Storm in December, and I won't get an upgrade discount until this December. I may as well pay full retail for the Tour. At least I'll have a decent BlackBerry.

The pre-order site shows $489.99 on a month-to-month contract, so I'm guessing this is the retail amount.

This comment may have already been made in some some form (or forum), but I have not seen it yet...What is the big deal about the "Tour". I have had a couple of blackberry Curves in the past, this seems very similar, as a matter of fact other than the Storm and the Flip phone, all the BB's seem to be about the same, I am not sure what the big hoopla is...I would love to know...I was contemplating getting the "Tour" (going from the Storm)...Thanks for any "constructive" input... :)

The only main difference I see is the camera, possibly screen intensity, and the darker type theme.

Hopefully I am missing something.

It's an upgrade... It's new... I have a Curve now, so for people who don't like the Storm, it is an upgrade to the 8830 and 8330.

VZW didn't get the BB Bold. No earth-shattering device, but it is new..

And we all like to have the new toy on the block...

When I try to preorder the Tour through the upgrade process online, the Tour is not a phone available to select, but every other blackberry is. Anyone else having this problem?????? Is it only available to preorder with brand new accounts?

I'm having the same problem. I tried early this morning and just now and I can't do it. I may end up calling customer service just to see what they have to say.

Just got off the phone with customer care. The rep did not even know the Tour had been released, placed me on hold for 5 minutes, and informed me that pre-orders are NOT available for people who want to upgrade, it is only available for new activations. She said that supposedly you will be able to order the phone online a week before the actual due date, and that they learned their mistake from the Storm and have mass produced more Tours for launch. I think that this is bull that we cant pre-order the phone if were upgrading, doesn't verizon want to take care of its existing customers?????!?!?!?!?!?

the rep had no idea the Tour was release yet he/she knew that they have mass produced more Tours for launch than they did for the Storm? sounds hinky to me.

If that is the case, then that really sucks. Keep me updated, I'll going to stop by a store this weekend.

I'm hoping this phone restores my excitement about Blackberry and Verizon. My 8130 is not cutting it anymore :)

So i just got off the phone with customer service, and they said you can only pre-order the device if you are eligible for an upgrade or are adding a new line. to me that seems stupid especially since I'm paying full retail and thats a lot of money.

that's evidently not the case. all of us who are eligible to upgrade cannot pre-order. so far it looks like new sales only, at least on the web.

I haven't tried to pre-order yet, but the rep. I just spoke with didn't say I wasn't eligible because I wasn't a new sale. I'll let people know if I was successful (just waiting the hour for their system to upgrade my new NE2 date; she changed it to today for me).

Wasted most of the morning trying online, livechat and speaking with a very helpful rep on the phone. She did not think they were trying to exclude existing customers, but that the website needed work. She tried several different ways and suggested ordering the phone as a new line and when I activate have them replace my current phone on my existing plan.

She didn't think there would be the mad rush they had with the Storm, but I was hoping to avoid the inevitable standing in line at the store while they are backed up dealing with everyday issues.

I will wait for them to get the online ordering corrected.

2 questions: does any BB offered on verizon have WiFi? and what are the main differences between the Tour and, say, the bold or the latest curve?

This is all new to me so maybe someone can answer this for me. Why pre-order? The Tour goes on sale Sunday July 12th, pre-orders only get mailed on July 13th and then you have the time in the mail. Why pre-order, why not go to a store on the 12th and have it. What is the big deal with pre-ordering? Thanks.

One, the shipping is overnight so its there in the morning and two, what's to say the phone would not be sold out by the time you reach the store?

the reason i am pre-ordering (as much as it kills me to not get it on the launch day) is because i don't have to front the $70 for the rebate. In the store it'll be 269.99 with a $70 rebate and I don't want to wait for the check.

whats up with the 2 gig micro sd that it comes with? RIM is getting cheap on us. my storm that i returned came with an 8 gig.

Your Storm came with an 8GB memory card, the Tour comes with a 2GB memory card...

What size memory cards do the Pearl, Flip, Bold, World Edition, Curve and Curve 8900 come with?

Those other models don't come with any included microSD cards. I wouldn't call an included 2GB memory card on a new device, when the other launches didn't see ANY memory cards at all (including MOST other phones/pda/spartphones on the market)"getting cheap".

I called Verizon because I wanted to know how long the "introductory price" would last (since my NE2 date isn't until Aug.5), and they said there was no way to tell. So, the nice customer service rep said, "I am going to put in a request to move your NE2 date to today. It will take about an hour, but then you will be able to pre-order the Tour, today."

That was a nice surprise. I imagine it's not uncommon to move the date, but I didn't even have to ask. :)

I tried the link. It appears as though current customer's cannot pre-order. Does anyone know if this is true.

I saw this first thing this morning but had to wait until I got to work to read and post.
I see a lot of people have been getting their NE2 moved up so they can get a pre order in. I just got off the phone with VZW and my NE2 was up on the June 18th but I am not eligable for pre order because I am only upgrading one phone on my account (which has 2 phones). The other isn't due for another year. I don't see how this should effect anything really.
I plan to call back as soon as I get another break at work, but has anyone else been told anything like this?

We all seem to be having the same problem pre ordering. I decided to chat with a rep online, and got this response:

You: Yes, I am an existing customer trying to pre order the blackberry tour
You: but its only allowing new customers to pre order
REP: I am sorry but you will not be able to at this time we are having issues with the site feel free to come back online later and it should be fixed.
You: you think today or later this week?
REP: Today it will.
You: Okay, thank you

Just got off the phone with telesales. Guy told me that they weren't accepting pre-orders over the phone and that I'd have to try the site again later

I could not pre order with add a new line. I called and the CS rep told me to pre order with new service and when I got the Tour they would add it to my family plan. What a bunch of BS.

WTF dude, how is it available for pre order but no one can order it? Sloppy first day and i just want to upgrade.

I saw someone already asked this but got no response .... sooo, why would you preorder the phone if it is in stores on July 12th but would ship to you on July 13th? Wouldn't you get it faster if you just went to a VZW store yourself? or is the in-store release date incorrect? I'm just trying to figure out the quickest way to get this BB masterpiece ... Crackberry, you've been my best friend while at work for months now waiting for this phone, Thank You

So i upgraded to the ENV Touch but returned it the next day so i could get the Tour. I called this morning n the Rep said that i used my upgrade for my DARE (which i've had for almost 2 yrs) They used my upgrade to switch back to my old phone. Now i'm waiting for a manager to call back, but with all this talk about having to be a new customer to upgrade i wonder would it jus be easier to end my contract and start a new one??

oops! sorry new mom, mind was in a million diff places. had dare since release, voyager before that. either way i got f'd outta my upgrade. also jus got off phone with telesales who told me they could call me the day of the release to order the Tour for me. I can walk in the store if that's the case. He also said that this phone wouldn't be as popular as the Storm... yeah,ok.

I just got off the phone with (for what seems like an hour) verizon and they told me a few things. First, anyone with an exisiting account cannot pre order the Tour. It is for new activations only. She told me to check back on the 12th where I will be able to order the Tour online. If you order it online, there is free next day shipping opposed to ordering it on the phone, where there is 2 day shipping. Second, the reason someone might want to pre order the phone is to avoid waiting on line on the 13th. Lines for the storm were ridiculous the first day and some people did not even receive a phone. Hope this helps

Is anyone experiencing the same issue I am having. I am trying to upgrade my phone. I go to the tour site and hit preorder then it says upgrade phone. I log in but the actual phone is not one of the options. I see every Blackberry but the Tour.

I've spoken with a VZW rep and several other people are reporting this as well:

Existing customers cannot preorder the BlackBerry Tour; preorders are for new customers only. Existing customers who wish to upgrade, via NE2 or otherwise, must wait until the July 12th street date to order the phone.

It sucks. I suppose it remains to be seen if this will last the full two weeks until launch or if it will change somehow. I'm disappointed, but I suppose it will really have little effect on when I actually get the phone.

CrackMFingBerry!! WOOHOO!

wow, I haven't really been excited for a phone release in some time...i think it was me getting the storm, then going back to the curve...I can not wait for the TOUR!!!

Spoke with a VZW rep.

For some of us that are eligible for an upgrade we are receiving the ineligible for upgrade error from VZW. They are aware of the issue and are looking to fix it very soon. I am not paying full price for that phone. Looking forward to it.

I just talked to a Verizon rep on the phone. My number is not the primary on our family share plan. My phone is available for renewal September 9th so I thought I'd see if they could move it up 2 months as others have talked about. I was told that they can only move PRIMARY lines up by 2 months, not secondary lines :-( So it looks like I'll have to wait till September to get upgrade price.

The only other option was to add a new line and pay for my current line through December when the contract expires, but that's no good since I'm already maxed on my share plan & I'd be paying $10 a month extra times 6 months. No good. Looks like September 9th is the release date for me!

u Know i was on cbery and found out that verizin was relaeseing the new tour on july 12 so i called sprint and ask them and the person i was talking too said he didnt no and that they might not be doing the bberry 9630 can u give me some info on that. half the time sales folks dont have a clue sad to say.

again sprint lags behind, i just called sprint and they still dont have a concrete date for the release.

Remember, preorders ship on Monday... Just watch the website after midnight Eastern Time Sunday and if you get the order in early enough it should still ship on Monday. And your shipping will be upgraded. Let’s hope there are no inventory issues like there were with the Storm, Pre, iPhones and every other highly anticipated phone for that matter..

just ordered the tour im phsyched even though i had to be on the phone with the verizon rep for about an hour she wasnt familiar with the device...literrary advised them that ive been with verizon 10years i am paying full retail she ended up transferring me to telecell? the guy took my order and advised me that i should have the phone by the 15th or 16th ...cant wait...if your doing it online your better off doing it over the phone it wont let you upgrade..thnx

how did you pull that off? what number did you call to get them to transfer you? because when i talked to them this morning they told me i had to wait till the 12th to get it.

...just called Verizon.. Since I had just upgraded to the Storm back in November, the best they could do for me is offer me a discount but I would have to complete a full year on the current contract, which would be 11/23/09. Otherwise, $489 would be the price today. He called it a "pre-order" date and that I would be eligible to "pre-order" purchase the phone today at full retail $489. He also claimed that the "july 12th" date is an estimated date, and could vary +/- 7 days (whatever that meant!).. I wonder if I should call back later and try again at the lucky roulette wheel? ;)

The links may be down since they are trying to "fix" the issue.

I know that Verizon usually reserves pre orders for new customers. They want to make it a kind of incentive for people from other companies to come over. The reason why existing customers get "overlooked" is due to the fact that they already have you as a customer. The only thing they may get out of you is an additional 30.00 if that(if you already have a BB your already spending at least that much)for the data plan, compared to a BRAND new person/ revenue stream that will add at least an additional 70.00 per month to there bottom line. Its just a bussiness move from the company to maximize the profitability of a new product before they open the gates to everyone else.

Oh and the reason you may want to preorder is to make sure you get a phone once it releases. It may not be as big a deal as the storm turned out to be but Im sure retail stores will have a good demand on the 1st day. Plus who knows how many your local store will end up with? If they only get 20 that day and your 21st in line there gonna have to order one for you or you'll have to wait for the next shipment which normally takes a week

yeah, but, if I did end up in line as the 21st person with only 20 phones in stock then I would just go home and order it online then anyway which would not take a week but would rather ship out on the next day (Monday the 13th) just like everyone else that preordered it. Most logical idea yet, no?

Apparently verizon doesn't want previous customers to pre-order a tour. They said to check back on their site later today with an ETA of 5 days! If anyone is able to upgrade through the site today please spread the word.

I just spoke with a representative regarding upgrading my current phone (HTC XV6700) to the Blackberry Tour and using the New Every Two upgrade on it. The representative said that the pre-order option is currently only available to new lines and that current customers, as of this moment, may not pre-order the Tour. =( She also said that the Tour will more than likely be made available on July 12th for current Verizon customers to upgrade.

Just so everyone knows, there is a website glitch that is not allowing existing customers to pre-order with their NE2. This is a glitch and is being worked on. If existing customers were not allowed to pre-order, then they wouldn't have that link for existing customers under the "Add to Cart" button.

Keep us posted please. I've talked to soo many different reps and they all tell me something different.

We've confirmed it - I'm a Corp account owner with over 7 lines - all lines are available for the upgrade as over 2 years old- After trying on line- I got a message "not available for upgrade at this time. I called customer service who confirmed existing customers cannot pre-order and must wait to Jul 12- pretty stupid - but we've all come to expect that from Verizon-

Oh man, that makes no sense whatsoever. By that time you might as well go ahead and march over to the store and try to purchase one. The existing customers get screwed

No doubt. My business account pays more than $400/mo and are all eligible to walk. Why existing customers get the shaft is beyond me. Makes the AT&T store next to me all the more appealing. Chances of scoring this phone the week of the 12th may be pretty slim at this rate.

I hear you. They're trying to pull in invisible customers because like one individual already mentioned, why would anyone leave a big named carear when they are perfectly comfortable with it not to mention quality phones and service. Just open it up for us and be done with it. If someone wants to switch, they will do it sooner or later.

Im so excited for this phone! Finally gona get a phone that works on a consistent basis LOL... CrAcKbErRy!! Would be even sweeter if I could win one :oP

HEY they are testing the tour at our call center and i have reliable inside information that sprint is releasing the tour on the same day :) i know for absolute sure- how cool
verizon and sprint intend to sell 600,000 of them in the first batch- you can quote me

Went to the VZW website to see if the glitch has been fixed and it has been changed. It now states in red upgrades are not available for this phone at this time. I went to the VZW website typed "tour" in the search space and it took me to the phone and the red disclaimer.

I have been waiting along time for VZW to get a competitive BB to AT&T. If VZW is thinking that an AT&T customer that can have the Bold or iphone is going to drop everything and preorder a Tour that is lacking wifi and is the flagship for the Storm fiasco, I believe they are mistaken.

Having been with VZW for near eternity, their slow delivery of new BB/iphone options is pushing me ever closer to AT&T. Now they once again shaft the existing VIP customer, I don't get it. I think they will open it up to existing customers pretty soon after they don't get many new customers switching from the competition. The tour is exciting to the phone starved VZW customer, not to the competitor's customers.

I couldn't have said it better if I tried.

Sen John Kerry wants to investigate these exclusive deals and the manner in which the Telecoms are using their power to exploit for new customers- the antics of verizon would seem to lend credence to this- any one interested in a class action Lawsuit for the unfair manner Verizon is referring new customers over those who have at least fulfilled their commitments ? Check out today's posting at Gizmodo for more :

Here's something for our hefty "WTF, Verizon?" file: The BlackBerry Tour, soon to be Verizon's top phone, cannot be pre-ordered by existing customers under contract who want to upgrade. What's worse, upgrades may be blocked even after the phone's release.

On the pre-order page, Verizon notes that, "Pre–orders not available for upgrade orders at this time." So if you're stuck with a years-old Curve 8330 or Pearl and want at least a current-gen BlackBerry, you'd better hope you've finished your contract. Even if you're eligible to upgrade to every other phone Verizon offers, you'll be blocked from nabbing the Tour. Oddly-named Verizon customer service agent "Markelvus" confirmed that the only Verizon customers allowed to pre-order the Tour are those whose contracts are completed.

Even stranger, Verizon customer service rep "Alexis" (who refused to provide me with her last name) stated that existing contract customers may not even be allowed to upgrade to the Tour when it's released. She said that such customers will be notified when upgrades are available, but that she does not know when that may be, and it could be well after the phone's July 13th release date.

She said, and I quote, "There is not a clear explanation on why existing customers are not able to order this device now. I am not sure when you are able to order it."

Those mid-contract upgrades cost Verizon money, so on kind of a cold, reptilian level, we understand the reason for the rule. But there's also a little thing called "not screwing your customers," and Verizon seems to have a tough time grasping that one. The Tour will be the most desirable phone in Verizon's lineup upon its release (and while we like the Tour okay, it's definitely not in the same league as the Pre, iPhone, or Hero), and yet they're keeping their contracted customers from ordering only this one device.

Sorry, Verizon customers. We feel your pain, we really do. We're getting tired of applauding Verizon's network while bashing absolutely everything else they do. At what point is staying with the Big Red no longer worth the hassle

I just hope for all of you "VIP" that cant wait 12 more days that when you go with ATT and they have a pre-order that you can't get either (since companies work the same way like stated earlier) youll be happy with the poor coverage ATT gives. Seriously just because you guys pay your bill doesnt make you VIP like said above it makes you responsible. I want the phone just as much as you guys but just because I have 2 lines and you have 100s of lines does not make you more important. Get off your high horse already and stop complaining...

Let's stop the complaining and eliminate any choice. Then we will get much better service. The reason I have stayed with VZW is their coverage, but the competition will close the gap and then their greater selection of phones/product will tip the scales away from VZW.

I am glad I didn't purchase a messed up Storm and complained. VZW has better coverage, so they don't have to offer a tested/functioning product? That's great except if the phone doesn't work what good is better coverage?

The VIP was thrown in because that is VZW jargon for how much they care about me/you the customer. They don't until you leave.

BTW, if people didn't "complain" we still wouldn't be able to take our phone number to a different provider along with many other features and benefits we now take for granted.

YEAH I CALLED EARLIER TODAY AS WELL AND SPENT ABOUT 30 MINS. ON THE PHONE WITH A CSR AND TO NO AVAIL SHE SAID EXISTING CUSTOMERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PRE-ORDER UNTIL JULY 13TH.

To you verizon wireless customers who will have the chance to test this phone out first..I guess that's what i get for being with sprint :( but i'm waiting....

People!!! Why are you all crying about not being able to pre-order if you're a new customer!?! How does it possibly make sense to you that a company (VZW) would introduce a new product (Tour) to EXISTING customers (who ALREADY have an account) over NEW customers?!

So, you're telling me it makes more sense for VZW to sell a majority of their inventory (at an additional NE2 discount) to existing customers rather than to bring in NEW customers (i.e. NEW REVENUE STREAM)?! That's a quick way for a company (ANY company) to FAIL. If you're working, why don't you tell your CEO to stop bringing in new business....see how long you have a job.

It's not like VZW ABANDONED existing customers...we (yes, we, I'm a VZW customer, too) just have to wait 12 days (TWELVE DAYS) to upgrade. If you can't wait 12 days for a phone (however nice it is) -- you've probably got other things in your life you have to worry about.

If you've read this far into my rant, let me also tell you that I get obsessed with new phones (I was on crackberry for MONTHS reading up on the Storm before it was released) but to get so upset (and threat to leave a company) is a little overboard.

Thanks for reading...God Bless....

Called VZW, the rep said he would look into the upgrade problem and call me back. Just got the call, he said that their system just updated and says that existing lines should be able to upgrade either the 1st (tomorrow) or the 4th (Saturday). He offered to call me back when its available to preorder :)

I just realized and I don't know if anyone else has too, but Verizon is releasing the Tour with or without a camera...smart move on Verizon's part for the business's that like to get blackberrys without cameras.

Hey Kevin and gang, what did you guys get for getting mentioned by BIG RED? LOL. Crackberry is the best!! Now where are you Sprint? My upgrade was due on 6/01.

CRACK-FREAKING-BERRY god i'm so excited... I can't wait until I can afford this one because with all the college bills and not having a laptop, this will definitely be the center of my college world... I just don't know what I'll do if I can't get my hands on one!

Some of you guys crack me up over this "Verizon is overlooking its existing customers" mess. Verizon is 1st and foremost a bussiness built on growth and revenue. If they launch a new hot device there going to want to make sure they get into the hands of NEW customers 1st..why you might ask? Becuase existing customers that want this phone more then likely either
A. already have a PDA/ Blackberry and are paying for the services already...meaning no additional revenue on the Verizon side...or
B. Getting into a BB for the 1st time but only adding 30.00 per month to there plan. 30.00 may sound like a lot to you but if you figure in what it cost the company to maintain there relationship w/ RIM and maintain there network and employees its not that much.

New customers = new lines of Revenue...the average new customer with just the basic plan to get this phone going will guarantee VZW at least 70.00 per month for a single line and at least 130.00 for a share plan with 2 people to have a BB on there account.

It makes good business sense to focus on bringing in new customers and making sure you have the product levels avalible for the people that will transition from there current providers to get this phone or any other phone form Verizon. Im not supprised at all at how VZW is handling this right now..After the launch date it will be open to everyone who wants it anyway. Some people wont get it the 1st day but they'll get it eventually if they really wanted it to beging with..

Just my 2 cents

I don't understand why so many people on here are defending Verizon for only catering to new customers! It seems like to me the smart business would plan and forecast volumes appropriately to be able to cater to both new customers as well as existing customers! This way you gain new customers and keep your existing. I used to work for a retailer who would take any item back because their philosophy was that would keep the customer spending in the store even if they lost money on the one item. Good philosophy since they are still going strong in a rough economy!

Anyway, I can't imagine that tons of people are gonna switch for this phone. If you're with a cheap carrier you're not gonna move for this phone. If you're with Sprint you are gonna have this option too. If you're with AT&T you already have the Bold.

So in my opinion - VZW get with the program and keep your focus on both customers you have and the new ones you want by planning appropriately!

VERIZON IS ONLY EXCEPTING PRE ORDERS FOR THE NO CAMERA VERSION AND NOT THE ONE WITH THE CAMERA. THE CAMERA VERSION PRE ORDERS WILL BE ALLOWED ON JULY 12, 2009.

Am I one of the few people that will not go ga-ga over a nice piece of hardware that has been crippled by Verizon?

I'm thinking of switching my business phones over to the iPhone rather then be held hostage by Verizon. 12 years of being a faithful Verizon customer but with the improvements to AT&T's network why pay for all of the phone but with key features locked? Mainly GPS and WiFi

F the iPhone. I'm telling you right now...That kids toy will not get things done. Strictly a "leisure" type phone. Push E-mail is a joke! If you're going to move, stick with BB.

Or are you just trying to stir up the verizon fanboy nest?

I'm not trying to stir it up. I give all my people a BB's and I then I'm tied to VZ Nav witch is sllooowww and expensive. Why RIM did not include WiFi in the Tour is anybody's guess.

I guess if we put up with deleted features from Verizon and less the the top options from the manufacture we will get phones like the Tour, a Curve with more mega pixels.

All excellant points about bringing in new revenue for VZW. Everything I read about Bus 101 was that it is less expensive to keep an existing customer than to bring in a new or lost customer.
The company needs to entice new customers, but the rant was not just about the inability to preorder a phone. Their main competitor flat out has kicked their butt in the new phone dept. iphone like it or not is selling and with the way people add free/cheap applications they will likely never leave that phone. The Bold is still a superior phone to the wifi less Tour. We VZW diehards can say that wifi doesn't matter, but it would be nice to have.
I won't even go into all the ways VZW locks up the phone so you have to buy their navigator and other services.

Here is a what if? Would you still stay with the Storm and unproven wifi less Tour as your options if AT&T had as good or better coverage than VZW with the phone options AT&T has?
I don't like AT&T, but I like their phone selection a lot better. They must be doing something right because they are still VZW's major competitor.

When you have your chat with the CEO, why don't you cover the topic of how well your last great phone (the Storm) worked out. Yes we sold a bunch, but no one likes them, they are full of problems and are a customer service nightmare for our customer and the company. BTW,our customers want the products our competitor has. Now we are going to grow the business by only offering preordering to noncustomers. Great idea, but what if this is the final straw for a large number of customers that are ready to upgrade? No problem, they are locked in to a contract. Ahhhh not exactly, the customers that are considering upgrading are at the end of their contract and can go anywhere...and be lost for 2 years minimum.

Well, if you're considering on leaving VZW, go for the Bold. Google Maps is free and a great GPS tool. I love my WiFi too :)

The Tour could have EASILY taken the "power house" title from the Bold. You've got more on-board memory...have fun with that. The body design of the Tour is sleek...and yes, damn sexy in my opinion. The keyboard is right out of the Bold's book...sure to please those thumbs. That screen kicks ass too.

Oh BTW...F the iPhone and it's slutty step sister 3GS.

Let's see.. yes, its a new Blackberry so thats cool, but lets compare it to the least expensive 3G iPhone. I think RIM doesn't know what competition is.

Pros:
It has video recording
It has a 3.2MP camera
BlackBerry OS means great email and text capabilities

Cons:
Its $100 more.
It comes with 13gb less space (I also included internal memory, It comes with a 2GB microsd card)
No WiFi

What do you guys think?

Having looked at Pre, Storm, iphone, Bold, and Tour reviews, I have been psyched to get a Tour. In fact, have been waiting. Well my normal phone is Verizon and my upgrade date has arrived in time for the Tour. Only Verizon chooses to not allow customers to upgrade to the Tour. You have to add a new line or wait until late July. Does this make any sense? I will be visiting Sprint and AT&T Friday to see what they can do. My other lines be gone as well. I have been loyal and they made the change yesterday after a phone call to see about changing my upgrade date to today vs. Monday. Very unhappy.

Update: Ordered a different phone for only one year to match the wife's contract. We will be shopping next year for both carrier and phone. And as ATT gets better coverage, I am hopeful for a Bold in the future. 365 days and counting.ate:

I was curious about the pre-order offer not showing up in MyVZW, so I called. After 15 minutes of fumbling and putting me on hold, the CSR told me you can pre-order the Tour in a Verizon store.

I have a two year old 8703e that has frustrated me because of the disabled GPS. I almost bought one of their current Blackberry devices the other day, but decided to ask if there's anything new coming out that's better than the Storm, Curve or 8830. That's when the sales rep told me about the Tour.

I'm going to call him today and see if I can pre-order and pick up the new phone on the 12th. I'll post an update here after I find out.

Here's my experience thus far with trying to order the new Tour:

I want it (as an upgrade to the 8830), and I'm not sure why...so I tried pre-ordering. Like everyone else on here, I noticed I couldn't upgrade. So I tried to use the Live Chat, and "Paige" told me to go ahead as a new customer, then call customer service, and they would switch it over to my existing account.

So I did.

After the order, I called customer service and they can't do anything until I get the phone...once I get it, call and they would transfer it over. ...and I wasn't eligible for the new-every-two (even though I got the Storm under that agreement and returned it), but they would change some dates around and I should be all set.

So just for fun, I called back this morning with a feeling that I just wasted $200..or whould have to change my phone number or something. Got a different rep (Ralph) and he said you can't do what I was trying to do, the Live Chat person should not have told me that, my order has to be cancelled, and this phone is not eligible for upgrade. But the ~good~ part is: they can't be sure that when you cancel, that your order is actually cancelled. He also informed me that I am not eligible for the new every two on the line that has my 8830....but I can buy a new phone on a different line on my account, and use it on any number in my account...uh, um, okay??

There's a whole lot wrong with this chain of events....I just want the stupid phone!

Just a heads up for those out there looking to upgrade.

When Verizon first launched the Tour page I signed up to be one of the first to receive information about the release and I believe there was some promise of getting special access to pre-order the phone...anyone else remember this or am I going crazy? Well my main gripe is that I never received any email from Verizon about the phone now being available for pre-order, so the whole "sign up for info" thing has left me feeling used.....So what gives?

I signed up as well..... and accidently found out online that the site had been updated for people to pre-order. So much for the benefit of signing up early..great loyalty. This whole release, and Verizon as a whole, is a mess. I went to the Verizon store by my work today and spoke with a woman who told me one thing, called a store by my house and was told that the woman was wrong... I walked back to the store and talked to a DIFFERENT employee who said the same thing as the woman. It is as if each store is its own entity.... you would think that if you called two stores that you would get the same answer, but no. And now the website is down, preventing preordering..... just glorious. All this for my first blackberry....what a great experience thus far.

It's funny that when i did the live chat yesterday and they told me to do the exact thing to you. For whatever reason during the middle of ordering the phone, my internet connection dropped....Needless to say, someone above must've been looking out for me. When i got the internet running again, i logged back into another live chat and was informed that it was not possible to order it as a new customer and then switch it over. Luckily, I dont have to experience the hassle as yourself (no offense). Funny how they can tell you one thing and it'll be wrong. They need to get on one page...

Since ive joined Verizon wireless, they seemed to be a bit sloppy at times and this is one of those times. I might just let the rest of my contract finish out and switch to another carrier because there are too many cons versus pros in my situation. I guess its just my location.. (there is more to it but pointless to go further in detail)

From Gizmodo:

Your are so right! I have upgraded to another brand and less capable, but I feel okay phone, for only one year. This puts both our phones at the same ending date so we may leave Verizon next year. Love the coverage, but this was THE straw. So get a Pre and a WiFi BB in the future Verizon, we'll be going elsewhere. Where a customer is valued.

It looks like Verizon has finally gotten on the ball. I received my courtesy email telling me to pre-order my Tour today. Woohoo!!!

Are NOT available for Corp Customers or those with many Lines- Only Individuals- Sen. Kerry is correct to wan to look into these practices- How Verizon treats its customers is despicable and reprehensible- they need to be taught a lesson- favoring the new over the captive is something that should not be tolerated by anyone- as New customers become captive - we deserve better

On top of it all, current Verizon customers get shafted because the Tour is $489! Verizon is only selling the phone at $200 to two year upgrades and to new customers.

I can cancel my Verizon account for a $125 early termination fee and then I am free to decide if I want an iPhone from AT&T or the Tour with Verizon, either for $200. Well, if I am free to choose I sure as Hell won't be choosing to stay with a company that does not value my business. Bye-bye Verizon.

It seems once again that Verizon couldn't give a shit about keeping their current customers. Maybe the only thing the executives of Verizon care about on a spreadsheet are the numbers of new accounts but fail to look at lost accounts.

What sort of idiot Verizon executives made the decision to provide discounted phones and a two year plan which will prevent those customers from buying into upgraded phones and services at a later time? Don’t they want existing customers to buy the upgrades? I guess not.

The Tour will be a slow seller as the many existing Verizon customer will not pay $489 for the phone and AT&T has been improving their network to handle the iPhone.
