Verizon BlackBerry Curve 8530 OS Update On the Way?
It looks like Verizon will be bringing Curve 8530 users a special treat coming soon. We got our hands on a PDF that shows an update to OS 5.0.0.508 is on the way. No exact date is mentioned for the release, but it should be within the next week or two. Highlights of the update include:
- Simplified lock-key function
- Overall improvements to battery life
- Improved video streaming
- Improved Voice Activated Dialing function
- Message enhancements
- Bluetooth improvements
This will be an official Verizon release for 8530 users. The document lists the download site as verizonwireless.com/curve8530support for the upgrade, but the page isn't live just yet. Stay tuned for more details on this one.

BlkBryAddict Mar 12, 2010 at 12:24 pm
Vzw is treating the Tour like the Curve 8330! No 5.0!!!
chilywilly Mar 12, 2010 at 12:31 pm
i'm seriously considering just buying an android device.

Man, I'm getting drunk off all the whiny tour owners! Put .419 on your tour! The OS works just fine! I've had it on mine since MTS went official with it. Nobody cares what you do or don't have, they only worry about themselves, and nobody on a crackberry forum is gonna influence VZW! SHUT UP!!!!!!!

I posted on twitter last week that OS 5.0.0.508 would be released for Verizon in the next few days.

mpatchez Mar 12, 2010 at 3:35 pm
What about the 9530?
MarcSMASH Mar 13, 2010 at 3:27 pm
I was kinda wondering the same thing. =) I guess we're in the same boat as the Tours.

I like this. It might be enough to force AT&T to finally offically role out 5.0 for the 8900. that means VVM for the 8900.

The 8530 needs some love shown to it. I mean, hell, try finding a good theme that is made for 8530. From what I have seen the 8530 is like the "step child" of the Blackberry family. Even if it is the step child...I still love mine.

I loved my 8530. But the battery was horrible. The 28th day after I got it, after new batteries, OS reinstall, changing screen settings, going bare bones, etc., I went through 3 batteries in one day. I was in Milwaukee, which is a large city and lots of towers. As much as I liked the phone, I ditched it for Storm 2. Glad I did, but this update would have kept me in it.
Phartsy Mar 12, 2010 at 11:42 pm
awesome! i feel bad for the Tour users though. hey i'll take improved battery life any day. i hope they update all these phones on a regular basis now.
razorkitty10 Mar 12, 2010 at 11:54 pm
I'm hoping the update will make it better for the video streaming. I noticed when I'm watching videos when a text message comes in, it interrupts what I'm watching & it has to start all over again! Anyone know if there's a way to turn off text msgs or a program or something so it doesn't interrupt the Vcast Videos or the YouTube videos?
Any suggestions would be great!
drummerman2008 Mar 13, 2010 at 8:33 am
WHAT ABOUT THE STORM 2 USERS I MEAN WE BEEN WAITING FOR A UPDATE FOR THE A WHILE NOW.
daneg Mar 13, 2010 at 11:59 am
Does anyone know what "message enhancements" it fixes?
Like the text being off the screen at times, or when it says you have a new text, you can preview it by going into messages but when you click the message its white, and blank. You have to "Clear chat" then have the person re send the message.
It's a pain in the ass.
