Updated BlackBerry Tablet OS simulator adds support for BlackBerry Browser

Today RIM has released an updated version of the BlackBerry Tablet OS simulator (for the BlackBerry PlayBook) that now includes support for the BlackBerry browser. This was lacking in the previous version, but now developers can test their web and Flash applications using the browser. Some notes for developers:

  • The User Agent will continue to match the current User Agent pattern used with BlackBerry smartphone products. This will enable developers to continue to leverage the development investment they have placed into building web pages optimized for BlackBerry already.
  • The browser builds on the existing support for web standards such as HTML5 for the BlackBerry by adding support for HTML5 Video and Audio based on the power and flexibility of the underlying BlackBerry Tablet OS.
  • The browser supports Adobe Flash 10.1, and Flash developers will be able to test the Flash player in the simulator.

Tell me, in the ads we could connect our bb to the tablet, and use bbm, is that possible with the simulator ?

I litrrally just download 9.2 simulator yesterday (the second one released). It took like an hour to set up and now I gotta do it again. But def in the 2nd one there were lots of improvs so hopefully this one will have even more.
When it says it has browser support, does that mean u can actually freely browse on the simulator, or must u launch a developed app to use the browser?

It includes a browser.

You already have the AIR SDK and a virtual machine player installed. All you have to do is download the new Tablet OS SDK and the new ISO. It shouldn't take you an hour, lol. I just switched over in 10 minutes.

I've noticed that Flash video isn't working. At least not YouTube (the links in the browser Favorites) and not on my company's site either. Might it be missing a codec? Is anyone else having problems?
