Unlocked GSM BlackBerry Z10 goes $60 off on Groupon

Yeah, that's for sure! I already have the Z30 which is a great phone, but I'm tempted to also get the Z10 at such a low price..... but I'm in Canada.... arg

They're $249 at Wind right now. Even with unlocking, based on the exchange rate, the price is comparable.

I saw that as well. The red-headed forgotten stepchild of the BB10 family... Sorry, but the $60 savings isn't worth it for this model.

I realize there are different versions of the Z-10, but I'm uninformed as to why exactly this model number doesn't seem to get the updates. Is there a "for dummies" short version answer as to why this occurs with this particular model number? What's it lacking (hardware wise) that the others seem to not have to deal with? Thanks.

Different processor results in it requiring a different OS than the others. If you stick to carrier updates it shouldn't be an issue but if you love leaks then it's not your best choice for a device.

Thanks for your reply. :) I appreciate it.

I read some explanations further down below in the comments too and came to the similar conclusion.

I'm also in Canada and will get no love. But I'm also a Mobilicity customer and we all know how well they're doing these days. I am strongly tempted to jump over to wind and get a Q10 from them for $349 outright. Z10's are $249 outright and the plan I have on Mobilicity is $40/month all in unlimited everything but Wind's is now $50 for something comparable...except unlimited USA stuff which is nice...decisions, decisons

I left Mobilicity for WIND last month after being with Mobi since September 2010. I haven't looked back.

I will be too. I am kind of kicking my own ass for missing their $39 plan all in plan. But I didn't want to deal with the hassle at the time. Now that all the other carriers have raised their prices on their plans, the $50/month plan on Wind is their equivalent to raising their prices too I figure but is still cheaper than the rest. I don't think there will be any cheaper plans anytime soon on Wind though...

The big difference is no LTE in the STL100-1 version. If you're ok with pseudo 4G, this phone is ok.

A summary of the supported networks (source is the above mentioned site)

- STL100-1: HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
- STL100-2: HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100, LTE 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2600
- STL100-3 RFK121LW model: HSDPA 800 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100, LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900
- STL100-3 RFF91LW model: HSDPA 800 / 850 / 1900 / 2100, LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900
- STL100-4: CDMA 800 / 1900, HSDPA 900 / 2100, LTE 700 MHz Class 13

I like that they are at least being upfront about it and not burying the fact somewhere on the page. Also, I think the STL100-1 would work just fine for anyone who's content with 3G speeds and doesn't intend on installing leaks. With 10.2.1 officially rolling out in the US now, I think this variant will work just fine for many. Not much to complain at that price point too.

Well hopefully gets more BlackBerry 10 into the hands of owners.

Yup just saw that myself. I sent seller a email to see what model number it is. Hopefully he'll respond quick and I'll post on here what that is

Nice find. However, with all expenses it's just a "normal" price for europeans: 145 € + 14€ postage + 37 € customs (to Slovenia). If they sold it for this price in EU (so -customs) I'd buy two immediately.

I've been using an STL100-1 since just after the launch of the Z10, it's a great phone. I thought an STL100-2 would be a better device but with LTE being the only significant difference between the two devices I choose the STL100-1. LTE tends to hit batteries hard, 3G is fast enough for my needs.

Actually, the STL100-1 has a slightly faster cpu. So, if LTE isn't an issue, it's actually the Z10 to buy.

Yeah but it's a TI OMAP.

1.5ghz OMAP = 1ghz SnapDragon.

I would argue it's slower.

The Z10 is on sale at Wind Mobile for $249 CAD outright, that is even cheaper than $239.99 USD.

Groupon actually gives you the number sold. Wonder how accurate this is and how many will sell

Since there is a billion dollars worth of these unsold devices laying around somewhere collecting dust why doesn't BB give them away fro free? $299.99 is way too much for a device that was a huge failure and an embarrassment for Blackberry.

JD - you are sort of correct. They should sell direct for $150. They should buy out Verizon's contract and other hostile carriers on the Z30 and sell only direct at $300. Empty your inventories, generate some cash and market penetration. In fact, this should be the new BB model. Let Foxcon build them. Let BB advertise, and sell direct. They control the release date and the updates. No carrier middle man. No need at this point, at least in the USA.

Wrong they didn't sell well for other reasons, the device is great. BTW on many markets they are still being sold for 600 usd. Why would they give it away for free?

Posted via CB10

Not really. The STL 100-1 had at least the same number of leaks as the other Z 10 models . But, I'm pretty sure that you don't own one.

I don't I have a 100-3. I didn't do the math (mea culpa) though they certainly are a vocal bunch about complaining there isn't a radio for creating an autoloader for them. But again I haven't done the math on that either, so let me finish by editing my statements by adding to them, "It appears to me that..."

Kogan.com.au sold out Z10 and Z30, only Q10 available

Hope BlackBerry can clear inventory and channels quick enough for the next gen phones...

Zzzzwiped from a Zedevice....

I just bought a Z10 this weekend. I have a stl 3 model, along with all the 0's.

What's the difference between models?

I have att, how do I get 10.2? So I can install ask files?

Posted via CB10

STL100-3 has the LTE radios, the STL100-1 doesn't. Depending on the carrier, you might get HSPA+, or you might just get EDGE/2G in the USA.

I'm sorry but $300 for the Z10 is a smoking good deal.

My new smashed Mini C0031C543 and a little bit of cross-country riding C00339A43.

Not available in Canda, eh! Too bad, my son is dying for a z10 & that was pretty close to his price range.
