UberTwitter Beta 8

Today UberTwitter announced their latest beta is now available for download. This new version has been totally overhauled. The new design is pretty sweet and Beta 8 includes a bunch of new updates and fixes to keep things running smooth. There is no changelog posted just yet, but this version does include things like Uberbar updates, ability to mute users, saved searches and much more. Anyone can get in on the action with either the free ad-supported version or the ad-free paid version. Download link below.

I'm tempted to try it out, but T4BB has pretty much become my go-to twitter app simply because of the pushed mentions etc and message app integration.

@dprovi same exact thing with me plus its just faster

mechanic_joe Jul 23, 2010 at 7:59 pm

Actually, I now find that Beta 8 is faster than T4BB .45 Before this Beta I would have agreed with you. Does anyone have a memory leak with this version? So far its my only complaint, this is an EXCELLENT and powerful Twitter app.

Been using the T4BB since it was a beta, downloaded the new Ubertwiter and it is now my goto twitter app. VERY VERY NICE APP!

Works on 9650, just not as well as Social Scope does.

its def replacing my T4BB, its cleaner, and the colour customizer makes it a lil personal. Try it out, ubertwitter has never been a bad twitter app in the first place, and this is an improvement

Who wants to look at AD's all the time ??? T4BB FTW !!!!

  • Reply

AgentScribe Jul 23, 2010 at 1:33 pm

I've been using T4BB almost exclusively since it was release to general public. I switched back to UberTwitter for a spell because of the multi-account support and better UI such as ease of RTing.

However, now I want to go back to UberTwitter but I might keep T4BB on my phone because of the integration with sending Web pages directly from Twitter.

Any thoughts?

I'm upset that I'm seeing the ads now. I'm paid user and previous upgrades have spared me this atrocity. Bummer until resolved.

  • Reply

KeegdnaB42 Jul 23, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Don't worry. They'll go away in awhile, it just needs a bit of time to have the servers link up with your pin saying that you're using the paid version. Happens after every update, annoying but not a huge deal.

PvT Jul 23, 2010 at 4:00 pm

Thanks for the reply. You're right, I've noticed that too, where it takes a while, in the past. On one of the threads Lefty923 suggested I clear cache, which I did, but I think that just before I did that, it in fact fixed itself.

Thanks again!

I upgraded the minute Ubertwitter release this information on Twitter. I so freaking love the upgrade but only one thing that i dislike... the advertisement. That is all.

Lovesherbb1915 Jul 23, 2010 at 4:07 pm

Same. That's the only thing I find a bit annoying, other than that, I'm really liking the new UberTwitter. :) Especially that now I can see my retweets and stuff on there. Don't have to go into the Twitter site on my computer to see it. Love that.

Possibly a stupid question: What does 'enable scrolling animation' do? I enabled it and disabled it and didn't notice a difference. Is there something else you have to have enabled or something?

Also, I like the colors. 'Cause I'm kind of shallow like that.

Scrolling up/down is a bit less snappy though.

Its an awesome app. Sad they dont accept Paypal as the mode of payment :(

So much better than Blackberry's Twitter App.

Great upgrade! It's a must get. I have the paid version and it is the perfect 3rd party Twitter app.

Ubertwitter is the best free twitter app. It was actually released last night via twitter.
http://www.bbleaks.com/2010/07/ubertwitter-beta-8-now-released-to.html

Here are a few of the new features in beta 8:

Completely new User Interface with several color themes

Uber Channels - A directory of hierarchical topics with the best tweeters from each topic managed in a twitter list. The lists are groomed every day to include the most pertinent users.

List Search - Use keywords to search for lists you are most interested in, finally a way to find lists!

Uber Bar Enhancements - Add basic functionality to the uber bar including search, everyone near you, saved searches, lists, users, Uber Channels and trending topics

InstaPaper integration - Save tweets to instapaper for later reading

Added the TMI.ME service as the default for sending longer then 140 characters, besides the fact that it has THE best URL name for the job, there is also no need to confirm that you want to send a longer tweet.
Added support for inline viewing of Twitsnap.com photos.

Ability to unblock a user

View the list of your tweets that have been retweeted, then highlight one of those tweets and view who has retweeted it

Saved searchs - finally, yes, we integrate with the saved searches on the twitter web site, plus you can add them to the uber bar!

Muting Users - You asked, and now its there, select 'Mute Users' from the menu where you can manage the list of users that you just don't want to hear from for a while. You can mute them forever (but why not just unfollow?) Or, you can specify how many days before the muting 'expires' and you start viewing their tweets again. (Shout out to @jasonbirch for the expiration idea!) You can optionally notify the user that you have muted them and it will also tell them when it will expire.

Added the ability to go directly to a users profile from the menu when you highlight one of their tweets

Reorganized the menu to hopefully be more clear
Added more information to a users profile

Saved searches...finally! - Yes - open search and towards the bottom you can see your saved searchs

Highlight a saved search to add it to the uber bar

After running a search, from the menu you can add it to your saved searches

Implemented new TwitVid library which uses Oauth, should be faster, but don't have hard numbers yet.

Added a conversation view timeline - When you view a tweet that is a reply to another, and click the conversation icon, it will open a timeline which will pull up the entire conversation from that point backward. Seems somewhat slow in doing this, as it has to make a call back to twitter for each tweet, looking into this.

This version uses Twitter's new Oauth authentication scheme which will allow you to change the username/password on twitter.com and not have to worry about doing the same in ubertwitter.

I am loving the mute feature on UT Beta 8. I have UT and T4BB on my bold. Each app has something unique I like. UT - I can set how many days before I see their annoying tweets while being able to follow. What UT still doesn't have to make me fully convert to T4BB is to manually adjust "everyone near you" by miles where UT's standard search is 25 mi.

So I ended up downloading and installing it. Set up everything and even messed around with the theme colours- but I'm back to T4BB. I'm just not all that big on tweeting and I find t4bb looks more clean and organized to me. As someone mentioned above, it all comes down to what you like and I like T4BB. But the changes to uber are nice..

UberTwitter has improved A LOT that's for sure, but one thing that's missing, real time DM retrieval. I'm not sure if it's my problem but if someone DMs me, I don't have to refresh and my Twitter for Blackberry will retrieve the message immediately. I'm pretty sure they will keep upgrading so until they can retrieve DM immediately, Twitter for Blackberry is still my choice (for now). :D

Yes when it comes to opening link, it's quite slow for me to load from UT too!

Is anyone else experiencing a really bad drain on this new version? I was at 59% and opened UT and was on it for about 10 minutes and went down 10% in that short time. That is crazy. I had T4BB before this and never experienced something like that. Just curious what others have seen. Thanks!

Gotta admit I have been back and forth like a yo-yo between T4BB and über for a while now. But I like this build. Just wish the Blackberry would work faster. But I guess this is as good as it gets with a berry......

I really love the new UT upgrade. I've been using the SocialScope for a while but the features for the SS Twitter compared to UT are really lacking. I'll keep SS for Facebook since the RIM app for FB sucks.

i think i miss the old one, i hope they provide us to switch back to old version of theme or make the new one look like old but with new feature.

for example, the compose area without the avatar and those not important text and the lousy color is just terrible for me....so i switch back to older version. maybe i just don't like it even it seem work faster.
