ÜberTwitter Beta-6 Now Available For Download

CrackBerry's Best Twitter App Of 2009 award winner ÜberTwitter has released their latest version of the popular Twitter client for all to download. The list of changes in the Beta-6 release is rather large and includes a bunch of highly requested changes that will be surely welcomed among ÜberTwitter and Twitter fans alike. Full list of changes is available after the jump. 

  • Lists, Lists, Lists!!! - You can create, delete, subscribe, add members, view members, all the functionality you would expect of an Über mobile client!
  • Find People - You can search for people, just like the 'Find People' link on Twitter's home page.
  • New Icon - We love it!
  • Über Bar - We couldn't resist the name! This is a tab bar at the top of the screen, the neat thing is that you can add your own tabs! A list can be a tab, users timelines, and soon saved searches
  • Retweets - We support the old method and new method, you decide!
  • Update Twitter Profile - Yes, you can update your Twitter profile directly from your phone.
  • Profile Picture - We have heard you, upload a picture for your Twitter avatar right from your phone!
  • Report Spam - One menu selection to report a tweet as a spam.
  • Twitter Geo-Tagging - We provide support Twitter's new geo-tagging capability. You can decide whether to use myloc.me URLs, Twitter Geo-Tagging, or both!
  • Friend Picker - Type '@' and a list of your friends automatically pops up allowing selection
  • Larger Avatars - Click the profile picture, and view a larger version! You can even email that larger version!
  • TwitLonger - Yes, you can tweet MUCH longer tweets now, thanks to the folks over at TwitLonger.com, we have fully integrated this capability into both sending long tweets, and automatically retrieving long tweets. We love it!
  • What The Trend? - Ever wonder why certain topics were trending or what they meant? No more! We have integrated with the folks over at WhatTheTrend.com to allow you to see the explanations for trending topics, and also for you to provide your own explanations!
  • Choice of timeline layout - Choose the new 'bubble' layout or the original 'bar' layout.
  • Verified Users - We show a small blue check-mark icon in the timeline to denote verified users
  • Network Connection Logic - We re-worked the network connection logic, things should be alot smoother.

Great changes there, which these days are needed as the Twitter space grows and new applications come along. Of course, the free version is ad supported so keep that in mind. Purchasing ÜberTwitter costs $4.99 and includes free upgrades for one year and no ads while using it.

I am a loyal SocialScope users but I admit the new improvements to uber are nice. I love the friend picker feature.

They need to go ahead and release that to all the beta testers right now. I love SocialScope but I like what ubertwitter is doing right now. SS needs to stop being stingy with the updates and send it to me. lol

I use twitter (they're the mafia) but I don't know if I'm using it properly. I follow funny ppl and read their updates when I'm bored at work to give me a lil' smile. Surely there's more to it than that? I miss the birdie from the logo too :(

not crazy about the new icon though, but the look of it is much better - I like the bubble. I also like the option of having longer tweets too. will keep checking it out. I am still using stock 330 and no issues here. I will give it a run for its money this afternoon :)

8. Which Twitter account should I follow to receive updates on new versions, etc.?

Follow @UberTwiter, yes there is only one 't' in that name. Unfortunately the Twitter interface wouldn't let us select a name with the string 'twitter' in it, can't really blame them.

has anyone been able to use the Uber Bar? I was looking forward to that the most but so far I can't even see it. I have lists set up and I've added them to the Uber Bar through Uber Bar Maintenance. Yet...I can't seem to see it.

How did you add your lists to the UberBar? I've discovered clicking the bar at the top to make it visible and Uber Bar Maintenance (which just stares blankly at me with the "* Empty *" labeled button) but nothing else.

Somehow I noticed that clicking on or selecting the little blue bar in the top of the screen labeled as Home should bring up the actual bar.

It disappearing is actually a good idea but I just wish the dev team had provided a little bit more information as to how to use it.

I am very appreciative nonetheless :)

RIM? WTF? Why isn't this in App World? We continue to install apps from all over the place which makes it impossible to keep up with the newer versions.

RIM, please add a feature to the OS that inventories your apps and thus add them to App World on your device so updating is easier.

My current version of UberTwitter is .945 (I'm assuming this is NOT Beta-6 seeing as how I still have the "old" icon). I've tried to download the supposedly released Beta-6 version through the "check for updates" feature within UberTwitter as well as a manual download via a web browser on my Bold but it keeps downloading the .945 version. Am I missing something? Do I have to have a "paid" (ad-free) version to get Beta-6?

My wife is having this problem on her tour as well. Worked fine on my 8830. Ubertwitter may have uploaded/built the wrong version.

I tried the public release when I first got my 9700 and hated it coming from an Android user stand point. Tried the beta (.932) and liked it much more than .925 and now this release just got better. Just wish they were to add Offline Tweeting at some point.

The little star on the corner of the icon that notifies you when new messages/tweets are present does not seem to be a part of this release. I like the new icon, I just don't like that it doesn't do as much as the old icon did.

You have to click that link from your blackberry browser. Not download the .jad file.

The version I installed from App World is 0.925. It is not prompting me to upgrade, either to .932 or to .945. Will this be updated? If not, do I need to remove via App World before I install via the ubertwitter web site?

Is it just me or does it seem like Uber made their app just like Social Scope?!?!

It's great that Uber has added these changes because SS doesn't grant access to everyone, but idk about having the two be almost identical in look/setup. I want one app to make me want to switch from the other bc it has something the other doesn't. Minus the pic change 4m ur phone I think they're exactly the same.... Good improvements nonetheless, but I think I'll stick with Social Scope 4 now!

Upgraded to the new Beta 6 version of Ubertwitter this morning it was working great then by noon it crashed my BB Storm 2. Have to get a new one now, not happy about this at all!!!!!

Is there a reason why my LED flashes red every ~4 seconds the entire time I have .945 running (8900, OS 4.6)? It stops when I close it (and I do not have it running in the background). Works great otherwise.

I can't get this thing to load after updating. It tells me that it can't start the interproccess or something. I set all permissions to allow and still nothing. Downloaded OTA and installed again over itself and same issue. Also, the short list home screen has 2 ubertwitter icons listed there and only one on the entire home screen list.

Turns out I had to delete the installation first. Options>Advanced Options>Applications then reboot. Redownload OTA and install. Now it works. But I have to setup the thing all over again.

Update worked like a charm for me :) Can't get anything added to the uberbar though... When I go to the Uberbar Maintenance option it just says empty. I really want to add 2 user timelines there...

Go into lists and it will have all the lists you created and/or following. You can add those to the uberbar by hitting the menu button while they are highlighted.

When I download, I keep getting a message saying 'Network problems' or something to that effect when trying to validate my account. TwiXtreme and TweetGenius work fine.

I have the BB Storm 1 and I dl'd this update to uber this morning. I really like the new features especially the new look of the app. The best thing though is that from what I can see, there is NO memory leak. The previous uber app had a small memory leak. Overall, I am happy that I dl'd this update!

I love the changes but today I said heck with it and upgraded to the paid version and it still has ads. Kind of annoying. Of course when I tweeted them they didn't reply to busy RT'ing all the people raving about it.

I was told that it may take up to 24hr for the upgrade to be effective.

However, I like this update and it has not cause a problem for me just yet. I can exceed the 140 character limit. This a great improvement.

WTF is with Blackberry and the need for a reboot after an application install?? I swear to god, satan and anything else I can think of that I'm gonna switch to the iPhone. Between that and the crappy trackball in the Tour 9630 and the 15+ minute reboot times I've just 'bout had it with this platform, and I haven't even had it that long. It's been the quickest "Oh this is cool" to "This sucks" gadget I've had.

As another user mentioned, the memory leak on the 9530 is entirely GONE. The flashing light mentioned by another user is easily taken care of in the options -- turn off the BB notifications, or leave them on only for certain things (and remember what you choose). I love the ability to add to lists, create new ones, and use the uber bar to hold lists, timelines, etc. I find the friend picker invaluable, and with my aging eyes, the larger avatar is great! With this new version, I may never have to hit the web to use twitter again... great job!
