UberMedia issues official statement addressing the ÜberTwitter suspension

UberMedia

As we noted earlier, ÜberTwitter and various other Twitter clients such as Twidroyd have been suspended by Twitter. Although it came as a shock tomost users out there, the fix for the situation is well under way and things should be back to normal as soon as possible. If you head on past the break, you can view the full response from UberMedia that outlines the whole situation.

STATEMENT FROM UBERMEDIA REGARDING TWITTER’S SUSPENSION OF SERVICE TO UBERTWITTER, TWIDROYD AND UBERCURRENT

PASADENA, CA – February 18, 2011 – Early Friday morning, Twitter shut off access to its service by several of our Twitter client applications:  UberTwitter, Twidroyd, and UberCurrent.  Twitter then notified us that they believed we were in violation of several provisions of their terms of service.

We were immediately in touch with Twitter, and the changes they asked us to make were very small.  As a result, we have completed the changes, and new apps are currently being posted to their respective stores.  Twitter has assured us that as soon as those changes were complete, they would reactivate our applications.

Twitter also asked us to modify the name of UberTwitter.  We began a process of changing the name three weeks ago by polling our users, and we’ve decided based on their input to change the product name to UberSocial, which we completed today.

To our millions of loyal users, we appreciate your patience during this temporary period.  We look forward to continuing our innovations on the Twitter platform.

I liked the name UberTwitter :<

Funny a few years ago every client was Something-Twitter or Twitter-That. UberTweeter would be just as good to me, or just "Uber" as many of us call it for short.

Hope we'll be able to use again UberTwiter / UberSocial soon. This apps is the best for blackberry, and even better than the official app for blackberry.

Will it be a check for update type of thing, or log out and in type of thing? How will this affect paid users who purchased from different venues? I wonder if I wait patiently until tomorrow, if I open it up will I get a big splash screen saying "DOWNLOAD UBERSOCIAL"? Hmmm.

I registered for the SocialScope invite because I heard it's a great application... What are my chances of getting a reply from them?

  • Reply

drumking1 Feb 18, 2011 at 7:12 pm

i sent them my email address about a month ago still no reply

  • Reply

juju705 Feb 19, 2011 at 12:29 am

I requested a SocialScope invite about twenty minutes ago. Nineteen minutes ago I received a reply, and instead of it being a 'thank you for your interest but...', it was a download code! (Yes, I'm kind of excited.)

I think they're getting looser with the invites. I tried a couple months ago with no luck. Perhaps they're close to releasing it and are trying to use the Ubertwitter mess to their advantage.

I got a mail from twitter about the same thing, check itt out

"Regardless of how you access Twitter, we are dedicated to making Twitter better, faster and more reliable for you. As part of this effort, we ask applications that work with Twitter to abide by a simple set of rules that we believe are in the interests of our users, and the health and vitality of the Twitter platform as a whole. We often take actions to enforce these rules.

We are sending this email today because we suspended UberTwitter for violating our policies.

Every day, we suspend more than one hundred applications that are in violation of our policies. Generally, these apps are used by a small number of users. We are taking the unusual step of sending out this letter because today’s suspension may affect a larger number of users.

We are committed to helping you continue to use Twitter during the disruption of this application. You can download Twitter for Blackberry and other official Twitter apps here. You can also try our mobile web site or apps from other third-party developers.

We appreciate your continued support of Twitter and regret any inconvenience to you."

Anyone here able to use the UberSocial (still sounds kindda odd) feature to selectively post tweets to Facebook?
If yes, can please direct me to the link? I'm still trying to figure out what to do to be able to do so.
Is there anything more setting I need to do at Facebook and twitter?

  • Reply

benny215 Feb 18, 2011 at 11:15 pm

What a douche bag move by Twitter. I'm more likely to just stop using Twitter than to switch to the featureless official app.

  • Reply

JiveMasterT Feb 19, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Wanna talk about douchey? How about Twitter asking them to change the name in April 2010 instead of you know, suing them for copyright infringement. Twitter was more than fair here... UberMedia just decided to drag their heels getting this done.

SocialScope, IMO, is better than Uber-[insert_eventual_name_here], and WAAAYYY better than the actual Twitter client. Plus you get Facebook, Flickr and Foursquare integration all in one app.

Just got the invite yesterday. Apparently they're handing out invites as soon as you request it. Good for me, bad for Uber(whatever). Social Scope is the way to go IMO.

I'm using SocialScope now. So far so good. You can follow me @Tony_Time. Let me know how you like SocialScope in comparison to ÜberTwitter.

  • Reply

jeneias Feb 19, 2011 at 12:06 pm

I'm sorry, but SocialScope's got NOTHING on UberTwitter. Maybe if you're using Twitter for BB and switch to SS, then I'd understand. But Uber is waaaay way better. Anyway, can't wait for UberTwitter - er, UberSocial I mean - to get activated. I personally can't stand any of the other Twitter apps.

  • Reply

JiveMasterT Feb 19, 2011 at 12:18 pm

Whoa. They started to change the name 3 weeks ago? They were asked in April 2010 to change their name. Sorry, but that's what happens.

  • Reply

shadygrey Feb 19, 2011 at 1:26 pm

You can't download UberSocial yet. It seems like as more and more people are deciding to go to social scope they have upped their invites to people registering for a name (a good move for them to do). Social Scope is still in its development phase so they probably don't have the capacity to handle as many clients as Uber did. The more I continue to use SS the more I like it and probably won't even care about Uber when its available. SS also allows you to provide feedback and suggestions (which I have done already) and they e-mailed me back pretty quickly.

Ridiculous!! I was thinking the whole time that it was me, or my 9700. I deleted and installed twice, both Twitter and UberTwitter. I had no idea they were different companies, and thought Iber was just a ramped up Twitter. As I write this, I was serioulsy thinking of junking it as every time I accessed Uber it was stating VERBOTTEN!! I am so glad I found the link about the suspension. I will go scope out the SS app and give it a whirl. I'll post back here what I've discovered.

Like others, I got an invite to the best app for my social apps- SocialScope. Love the app and have stopped using Uber as well as other apps I was using. So I guess the timing was perfect!!!
