Twitter for BlackBerry v1.1

It's been a while since we've seen an official update to Twitter for BlackBerry (now just known as "Twitter"), but today RIM has finally released version 1.1 for public download. This version has been sitting in the Beta Zone for quite a while and has received some good feedback. New features include:

  • Tweet Location
  • Refreshed Branding/New UI
  • Retweet Updates
  • New Language Support

The updated release also includes beta user requested features like push @Mentions, #Topic Autocomplete, and ‘Retweeted by you' indicators, as well as several other enhancements based on feedback received during the beta. The update will be rolling out in BlackBerry App World in the next 24 hours, so if you don't see it available now, keep checking back.

As someone who was a beta tester, I definitely recommend upgrading - if only for the push @mentions feature because it is pretty slick.

What's that autorefresh thing you can do to AppWorld? Is it shift + r?

How does this new version compare to uber social? I havent found anything yet (including t4bb) that beats it yet. Does this version finally do it?

FlyHigh365 Apr 12, 2011 at 11:13 am

It has more swag than ubersocial

Push mentions and retweet updates sound nice. Not sure if it's enough to bump me from SocialScope, but I'll give it a try.

Alt R-S-T isn't currently working for most people to make App World notice the updated version, so just wait, and keep trying. The OTA link above for (most) people is still pushing 1.0.1.12.

you're correct, sir. i guess it's hard for RIM to update a web page AND app world on the same day! i was expecting too much. my bad.

As long as the refresh refresh rate is 5 minutes I will stick to @ubersocial. I love the 1 minute refresh time @ubersocial has. Follow me @jjoubre3

If you guys can't wait for the staggered roll out on your BB. Goto App World on your PC and install through there.

Warning for Storm2 9550 users: This version is an absolute disaster on my phone (5.0.0.1015 on Verizon): tons of refresh issues; lagging and freezing; errors when loading lists; pull-to-refresh doesn't work; none of which were present in either beta build. Battery pulls and uninstall/reinstall routine do not seem to help. Would be interested to know if other Storm2 users are having similar problems.

If RIM are releasing .017 out as a finished product then i will be disgusted, having Beta Tested i took it off of my phone as it was laggy and quite often wouldn't even launch.

Don't know why my post got deleted. But the link for the new twitter download is in the Native Apps forum.

Beta Zone version 1.1.0.17 has been working pretty well on my Torch (OS 6.0.0.448). Not sure why some are saying it's "laggy" or whatever. Could be too many other things going on?

I'm curious tho, did they make version 1.1.0.17 official? I guess I could just check App World myself or even BlackBerry Beta Zone!

Personally I like the new features! I've been using Twitter for BlackBerry since the first beta. I've used most of the other options out there but seem to always come back to #T4BB! What can I say, I like the simplistic design and once they introduced Push @mentions, I was sold!

But, at the end of the day, to each's own! :)

Some of you people are about the biggest crybabies I have ever read posts from. You start spouting off nonsense about things you don't understand and know nothing about. Updates to App World are always staggered. The final version is .20. Not .17. And, it works great. Furthermore, anyone who is updating their timeline every minute is a total nutcase. I have mine set to an hour. And with push notifications, I never miss a dm or a mention. Now, all children go sit in the corner and suck your thumbs.
