Twitter for BlackBerry updated to version 1.0.1.4
The official Twitter for BlackBerry client was quietly updated yesterday. The last update we saw was a few months back but now version 1.0.1.4 is available for download. So far I've noticed the ability to change your photo sharing service (yFrog or TwitPic) but other than that no notes on what's new and exciting, so if you download and find out be sure to leave a comment. As of right now it isn't showing the new update via blackberry.com/twitter but BlackBerry App World is ready and waiting. Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

Built-in update checker is showing nothing and when I go to App World it still shows 1.0.0.45

Go MyWorld and hit ALT R-S-T. It will restart. Once you go back in you should see the update.

I love SocialScope. I tried the Twitter for Blackberry, and every other program, and nothing compares. I guess if you haven't got the invite to Social Scope, Twitter for Blackberry is the next best.

SocialScope is overrated to me. UI is worst than 4.3 OS and the app is only good if you use Foursquare, Twitter and FB together. You have many limits using FB through SS as well.

Restart your device. I was wondering why no updates came up when I checked on Twitter for BB. That is until I restarted. Weird way though if you ask me. It should just come up.

There is also a new "Welcome" item in the menu, with the suggested users divided into categories and the option to directly search for someone.

It's showing up in App World for me...Just finished installing the new Beta OS 5.0.0.938 on my 9700. Any other updates gonna come out today? LOL

I found the update in the App World, but I first had to create a stupid BlackBerry ID before I could install it due to App World 2.0.

If appworld still shows ver 1.0.0.45, press and hold the alt key while typing r s t, this will reset appworld and show you the current version. Worked for me...best of luck

Those who don't see it yet, open App World, hold Alt and press R, S, T. It should reboot App World. Then search for Twitter and you'll get the updated version.

My Twitter app icon indicated an update. I went to "My App World" and saw I had an update available. I'm updating it now.

I wish developers would publish the changelog. When an application goes from 947K to 1.1M and your 9000 is already struggling with application memory, the changelog would allow us to see if the upgrade was worth it.
I still wish RIM would release a phone in the same form factor as the 9000 with 1G of application memory and let it be the flagship phone again.

not sure where ur seeing 1.1 but i have 984.2 up from 974k. if u have the option, never download from appworld. always download from the web because 90 percent of the time the appworld versions are multi-language which accounts for the inflated size over the web version, where u can choose english over other languages. i prefer smaller apps as i've noticed they run faster aaaaand...i have the 9000 as well :)

Something that is NEW: you can't automatically open link in tweets. you must click BB button + choose "open link"

I updated my Twitter software, recently, and can still open links in Tweets. Select the Tweet you would like to read, scroll right and highlight the link, click the select button and the browser launches. No problems on my end with this process.

I thought it was a bug. I deleted and re-installed Twitter hoping it was a bad install. It's not... & it sucks. Sometimes you have to hit backspace 2 or 3 times to back out of a tweet. A little annoying.

Anyone else seeing this? When I click a link it brings me to the Tweeters profile. Links aren't opening nor is an option to open the link showing up. Running on Bold9700

A very noticeable change is that Twitter for BlackBerry is now fully in Dutch for me. I don't know if there was a Dutch language in the previous version but I'm happy now.

After the download I noticed my wallpaper reverted to the default screen and I had to re insert my media card to get the one I set up back. To add, I lost the little TMobile ID word even though I could still see a 3G signal...WTH?

Got it on my 9000. Had to refresh App World and then it still didn't show an update available. But clicking on "Twitter" in the "My World" section did show the update.
I guess RIM is concerned about battery life since 5-min is still the lowest refresh rate. Lame.
The "Welcome" screen in the menu is just odd. Why have a separate user search on there? And why not just putting the user suggestions in the Popular Topics area on the Navigation Bar?
Come on RIM...if UberTwitter can put out an awesome Twitter app, then so can you.

On my Torch, where this is a native app, Twitter doesn't appear in My World, even after the alt r,s,t thing. Within the Twitter app, version is shown as 1.0.0.48, and pushing the check for update button returns a "no updates available" message.

I just opened the app, checked for updates and it worked. Just finished downloading it. I wish they'd add Plixi, though. I don't really use TwitPic at all anymore. :/

Another "feature" that was brought back was the ability to click a link on a tweet and open it...instead of having to "Menu > Open Link" on the Storm devices.

I use Ubertwitter and love how if you click on a picture link, it uploads the pic right away without having to open your browser!!! On BB Twitter, you have to click on link, then another link to view the pick which opens your browser. Too slow for me. I'll stick with Uberstwitter until they can do that.

"Refresh tweets every 5 minutes" is too long. I enter many contest on twitter, getting a contest announcement 5 minutes after it was posted is too late for most contests! Sticking with Übertwitter!
