Courtesy of @BBTweeps we have a fresh leak of the Official Twitter for BlackBerry. We thought the client would be available by now, but it seems its had some hold ups, so hopefully this leak will keep everyone happy for another week or two :-) Features in this version include:
The app is currently in beta so you may have some issues, but give it a go and let us know how its working out for you in the comments. Hit the link below to download.
pgrudo01 Apr 1, 2010 at 11:16 am
Off the bat I think UberTwitter looks more appealing.
BBThemes Apr 1, 2010 at 11:18 am
as mentioned its alot faster, and seems to load more tweets at a time, they still need to go lower than every 5 mins though.
now patiently waiting for BBM 5.0.1 leak :)
pks Apr 1, 2010 at 11:20 am
I assume there's no push?
syllableslayer Apr 1, 2010 at 11:25 am
There's actually push for direct messages! Try it out, its great :>
eye4ni Apr 1, 2010 at 11:33 am
push only for direct messages. If they could use push for @replies it would be near-perfect
neuropolis Apr 1, 2010 at 12:48 pm
for both @mentions and DMs.
CrackBerryV79 Apr 1, 2010 at 1:22 pm
'Push' is only for the DMs... you can set your notifications for 'replies only' if you wish, but they'll only appear with your refreshes (whatever you have them set for).
Still, that's a pretty neat feature. Not quite 'Push' but I do enjoy not having that icon pop up for everything.
eduardo.objio Apr 1, 2010 at 3:04 pm
I advise you to d/l again, coz' I pretty much have both mentions for DM and replies. This leak feels very solid, I like it a lot and also, it says that this "pilot app" will only be valid until June 30th 2010. Hopefully before that we'll see the final version.
CrackBerryV79 Apr 1, 2010 at 6:25 pm
That's not "Push" - only the DMs are 'pushed' to your phone; they come through as soon as they are received. Mentions can be set in your notifications, but they'll show when your app refreshes. If you refresh every 5 min or so, you probably couldn't teLl the difference.
eduardo.objio Apr 2, 2010 at 10:02 am
Oh I see, and yea I have it set up for 5 min. Still, previous beta didn't have it, so I like the fact that this one does. Thanks for clarifying!
jbenkelman Apr 1, 2010 at 11:51 am
I have been testing since it came out...and I love it. It does everything I need, with a great CLEAN look to it. Uber started looking too "free" and not professional anymore
EDIT**
This version ROCKS. The new features to update your profile, picture, lists, and replies is awesome! This is the best I have ever used.
Its a million times faster too! AWESOME!
Im a big twitter fan, and this is very fun! @jbenkelman
RedRangerReid Apr 1, 2010 at 12:18 pm
Lmao isn't iit great
kid108 Apr 1, 2010 at 2:36 pm
+1
Mystro Biggz Apr 1, 2010 at 11:23 am
This Twitter app is VERY nice. I liked Ubertwitter, but I didn't like the flooding of notificatons. This one just gives the red star and you can go from there. It's neat, clean and works so much better for my casual usage of Twitter. I am not a hardcore user, so this is perfect. Always liked the clean looks of the RIM versions of these apps, now, if they just work as good as they look. Twitter, so far, so good.
oanda8311 Apr 1, 2010 at 11:23 am
Tried the RIM twitter app and I still think SocialScope is the best app out there.
elgrant Apr 1, 2010 at 11:47 am
I agree...social scope #1...
What I don't like about this twitter app is that when you type "@" it doesn't suggest names, like ubertwitter and social scope do.
skizuhm Apr 1, 2010 at 2:17 pm
Agree, the @ autocomplete is something I miss, but I would imagine they'll add that at some point. One puzzling thing I noticed, unable to completley exit the program; well I haven't discovered a way. ????
leilani_J Apr 1, 2010 at 10:26 pm
to exit, just go to options and logout. otherwise, you are always logged into the app.
bigjman Apr 1, 2010 at 2:23 pm
if you're composing a direct message, it will do the auto-complete once you start typing the recipient's name.
fleander Apr 1, 2010 at 11:25 am
have SocialScope as well...think that if they do not update soon though, their features will be old. Something that is missing in the BB version - insert URL / and the chat feel of DMs like Social has it.
RedBank Apr 1, 2010 at 11:25 am
Since I was expecting to try the beta BBM today (date got pushed up).
UberTwitter vs BBTwitter is the test for today
kellidotca Apr 1, 2010 at 11:25 am
But it would be perfect if it allowed more than one account.
elgrant Apr 1, 2010 at 11:48 am
DITTO!!! And name suggestion when typing "@"
sgtmilstack Apr 1, 2010 at 12:15 pm
T4BB maybe faster and all, but that absent feature (and others) puts a dent in efficiency. Push mentions is not enough for me to switch.
UT for my Storm.
demzzy Apr 1, 2010 at 11:26 am
You still can't edit the retweet which is minor I guess for what else has been fixed... But still it would of been a welcomed addition..
waker Apr 1, 2010 at 11:28 am
what the heck? do I need a beta key or something?
LeisThatGirl Apr 1, 2010 at 11:29 am
Trying to install using d/m and its telling me the applications isnt compatible with my device? I have tour running os 5.0?? Thx!
stoneland Apr 1, 2010 at 11:29 am
I think I still prefer UT for the option to edit a retweet. I like the interface though. Nice and clean.
Everlast04x Apr 1, 2010 at 11:29 am
UberTwitter is better
shabbs Apr 1, 2010 at 11:51 am
I gotta disagree... so far, this is blowing UberTwitter out of the water.
stoneland Apr 1, 2010 at 12:04 pm
i have is that you can't edit a retweet. it's also a little slow for me, especially when typing a tweet. otherwise i love the design and colors used. everything looks cleaner and professional.
D_Town Apr 1, 2010 at 2:28 pm
why do you say that?
personally i prefer the multiple accounts on uber as well as the fact that i can read complete tweets without having to scroll. I think they are both nice, but not sure if either blows the other one out the water.
leilani_J Apr 1, 2010 at 10:35 pm
i'm not discounting ubertwitter just yet. but since using this for about a week now, i haven't had the urge to return to uber.
just a note: i love how images are displayed as opposed to uber. that is a really cool effect.
ubertwitter also ate up a lot of my battery life (the latest update, i noticed this). the official beta hasn't done that yet, and it doesn't appear it will. another plus for this version.
also, i haven't noticed any slow loading. it loads faster than UT.
JerseyBred323 Apr 2, 2010 at 1:34 am
UT is better. T4BB is has a very nice UI and a lot of promise but it's lacking features that UT has had for a while. The developers over at RIM need to review UT's features and then aim to outdo UT with their official release.
robertdusa Apr 1, 2010 at 11:32 am
Just tried to update my previously leaked install of Twitter for Blackberry. Followed the link, chose OS 4.5, and was asked if I wanted to update 1.0.0.28 to 1.0.0.28.
Any luck on the higher OS versions?
Aside:
I too used UberTwitter for a time, but found that my battery life was affected, and it seemed to chew through a lot of memory. I've found the RIM client to be much better on both, possibly due to the push nature of the updates. Of course ymmv, and even then you still may not like it if you are a Twitter power user.
Schmiesus Apr 1, 2010 at 11:43 am
I noticed with the newest version of ubertwitter that my phone was barely making it through the day.
so far i'm liking the Rim version seems quick.
works fine on OS 5.0 using the newest version of the beta
qu3lly Apr 1, 2010 at 12:29 pm
Yeah I noticed a battery strain after updating UBER...
robertdusa Apr 1, 2010 at 12:30 pm
Just tried again, almost an hour later. 1.0.0.37 downloading now.
I hope this 'leak' stays up until the end of next week, waiting for Rogers to deliver my new 9700, and I don't want to have to use UT until RIM makes the app publicly available.
No hate towards UT mind you, I just digged the RIM client over the competition.
Blacklac Apr 1, 2010 at 12:37 pm
Do you currently have a phone? If so, just download it and do a "3rd Party App Backup" and it will save the file. I doubt they would pull all the links anyways.
robertdusa Apr 1, 2010 at 12:45 pm
If worse comes to worse, then I'll give that a try.
Totally off topic; when I do get.the 9700, can I just cram my SD card into it? Meaning, will it preserve the contents without reformating, and just 'go' with it?
Yandar Apr 1, 2010 at 4:31 pm
Yes. SD cards are fully transferable without damaging the contents.
robertdusa Apr 4, 2010 at 7:45 pm
Thanks for the info.
xKarlaCruz Apr 3, 2010 at 11:48 am
how did you manage to download 1.0.0.37 on OS 4.5? :(
robertdusa Apr 4, 2010 at 7:52 pm
I'm not smart enough to know the back end of things. I just followed the links on the post, and chose OS 4.5. Maybe if you give it a try again it might work for you? As mentioned, the first time I tried, it wanted to download 1.0.0.28, which I already had installed. An hour later I tried again and it downloaded 1.0.0.37 successfully.
Hope you got it working.
robertdusa Apr 1, 2010 at 12:43 pm
Nice speed improvment on my 8310, can only imagine what it'll be like on the 9700.
Now if only RIM would update the Facebook app.
chirmer#CB Apr 1, 2010 at 7:28 pm
+1. I wish they would too! :'-(
kullkid92x Apr 2, 2010 at 4:26 pm
YES! the Facebook app needs some major improvements! idk what they're waiting for...
archpopoy Apr 1, 2010 at 11:34 am
Like somebody suggested before - RIM should've just bought Uber or SocialScope. Although the app seems to have improved, it's still has ways to go to measure up with Uber & SocialScope...
Just my opinion.
iggie2010 Apr 1, 2010 at 11:34 am
Been testing it since the first beta came out, now installing the newest version! :D
dnlgee Apr 1, 2010 at 11:35 am
Prefer this to the previous beta release, still a bit ugly and could use a few more optimisations. Glad it now has mention notifications.
IMO TweetGenius > T4BB > UT
mmcapone Apr 1, 2010 at 12:03 pm
I love TweetGenius. However, if you could add text to RTs on this version I think its giving TG a good run for its money. Plus this one is free. I think i payed like $7 for TG.
storm2luxe Apr 1, 2010 at 11:35 am
great look, great functions, i defintly luv it...
jsox78 Apr 1, 2010 at 11:37 am
Sweet. Hopefully they won't disable it right away again.
mmcapone Apr 1, 2010 at 11:59 am
When installing I saw something that said "Good until June 2010"
firepsych Apr 1, 2010 at 11:40 am
I don't tweet that much,I check it a few times a day, but I don't keep it open or have alerts. I used UT for quite a while and just switched to Twit for BB and like it much better. Loads more quickly, almost no mem leak and it's much cleaner.
elgrant Apr 1, 2010 at 11:49 am
What I don't like about this twitter app is that when you type "@" it doesn't suggest names, like ubertwitter and social scope do.
As well as support for multiple accounts for businesses or people with a personal and business account.
Wolfroid Apr 1, 2010 at 11:50 am
...untill now!
I`v just d/l this one and am ecstatic from joy, liking it so much ...its slick and clean,if u ask me!
Try it..
RedRangerReid Apr 1, 2010 at 11:52 am
Ok so I've been testing twitter for blackberry since it came out and I always felt the need to keep uber as a backup but as of now the new update is sooo sick lol I'm loving every minute of it the layout with the twitpic is nice the option to compose from the menu(via blackberry button) and the push of @replies is amazing all together I'm saying bye bye to uber for good
waker Apr 1, 2010 at 11:54 am
Seriously nobody else is getting the expired token thing?
teddyp6 Apr 1, 2010 at 11:57 am
Been using this all morning and its a lot faster than their first version. I will try it out a couple of days.
Steve1350 Apr 1, 2010 at 12:01 pm
i dont tweet much, but i always like to check it a few times a day. this is good? memory and battery usage?
nyc_rock Apr 1, 2010 at 12:09 pm
anybody esle unable to clear the "t" in thier home screen notification bar?
teddyp6 Apr 1, 2010 at 12:13 pm
You have to go back and scroll through your "@" and DM messages to clear em b/c they are showing as unread. I had the same problem.
nyc_rock Apr 1, 2010 at 12:17 pm
Appreciate it.
asu1996 Apr 1, 2010 at 1:45 pm
I have gone through the "@" and DM messages but I still have the notification on my home screen. How do you clear them? I don't see a delete button. Could use some help. It is annoying seeing that all the time.
GulfcoastGuy Apr 1, 2010 at 12:13 pm
I am having that same problem. My OCD is kicking in when I cant get rid of it. Suggestions?????
spotlund Apr 1, 2010 at 12:19 pm
i found a direct message that i had to scroll over for it to go away
DaGodfathaa Apr 1, 2010 at 12:10 pm
Period.
MDossous82 Apr 1, 2010 at 12:13 pm
It has gotten better but my only remaining issue is that it doesn't integrate twitlonger into the interface like Uber does...I really like that when I tend to ramble on occasion
donniejett Apr 1, 2010 at 12:13 pm
I didn't read through all the comments, but you now can be alerted when you get @replies
jwhelan Apr 1, 2010 at 12:15 pm
Installing now. I am so happy they added lists.
FunkyDog Apr 1, 2010 at 12:20 pm
I'm all for Ubertwitter for now.
Anyone noticed an expired token for this?
waker Apr 1, 2010 at 12:27 pm
Yes. Been trying to figure it out. What on earth. Worthless blog post with this. :(
muhazar Apr 1, 2010 at 12:21 pm
wohoo..loving this..been using the previous beta...
demzzy Apr 1, 2010 at 12:24 pm
Lack of editing to retweets alone pulled this down
elgrant Apr 1, 2010 at 1:04 pm
How come every application but this one allows for editing and commenting on Retweets? Which is why I hate using twitter.com
tidebuzz Apr 1, 2010 at 2:01 pm
It's a little bit of a round-about way of doing this, but you can edit retweets by copy and pasting. Sure, it's not that efficient, but it is an option.
chirmer#CB Apr 1, 2010 at 7:32 pm
Knowing I can copy/paste means I'm for sure DL this when i get some freaking signal ;-)
stoneland Apr 1, 2010 at 3:57 pm
You answered your question. twitter.com doesn't allow that, so naturally twitter for blackberry wouldn't, either.
LeisThatGirl Apr 1, 2010 at 12:25 pm
Am I the ONLY person THAT cant install this..? WHAT gives?
qu3lly Apr 1, 2010 at 12:27 pm
I like it. I would love to continue if.... they had a shrink tweet option, tweetlonger and put the @ sign to show your friends. Pretty cool. Came along way.
CrackBerryV79 Apr 1, 2010 at 12:28 pm
It's MUCH faster now. I too have been testing this since the beginning officially, and this is more than likely my Twitter app of choice now. TG's UI is still tops to m features are lacking; UT has every feature imaginable, but does seem to look a bit ugly and "free" (lol). This app seems to be a near-perfect blend. (Excluding SC from this since they NEVER update and only like 100 of us have it)
I would love to see the Friend Picker (@___) suggestions and Edit Retweets function - I'm hoping that the reason we haven't seen them yet isn't because those are options that aren't available on the actual Twitter website itself, and as an "official" client/app they're staying completely true to the site. That would suck. These two additions (plus avatar zooming) would make this app perfect.
stoneland Apr 1, 2010 at 12:31 pm
I agree, CrackBerry. Those options aren't available on the actual Twitter site (which I never really liked, but I didn't mind since I rarely tweet from the site anyway), so it's likely they will remain "true" to the site, unless they implement it on their web interface as well.
sagardavul Apr 1, 2010 at 12:32 pm
have installed and using it. really nice looking and way faster than ubertwitter. But, I still miss tweetlong feature in Ubertwitter. hope the official version comes with this. It's really nice so far, may be I will ditch Ubertwitter in a day or two. :-) This has got so neat look. well, that could be due to still in development and release phase. who knows... if they go to more commercial and starts including annoying ads in between at later time.
asu1996 Apr 1, 2010 at 12:34 pm
Does anyone know why when I open the app it doesn't refresh? I have to manually go to the menu and hit refresh. Is this an option at this point? I don't keep the app running all the time because these kill your battery but I like to close and then reopen like with Ubertwitter and it automatically refreshes. I have the check mark under refresh automatically but it doesn't seem to be working. Thanks in advance.
stoneland Apr 1, 2010 at 12:49 pm
it doesn't happen with me either. another reason why i prefer UT for now. also, i highly doubt this app will incorporate twitlonger when the twitter web interface doesn't allow that...people need to realize that some things will not be included in the official twitter app.
wcmarchese Apr 1, 2010 at 2:00 pm
not positive, but i'd say it doesn't refresh becuase it's a Blackberry app and it's got the push feature, so you don't really need to refresh -- that's IF it's doing what Facebook and Myspace official BB apps do.
WCM
tikan Apr 1, 2010 at 12:36 pm
Have they made reading tweets available when offline yet? I am often out of my coverage zone and read in batches. Last version wouldn't even allow me to open the client if I didn't have a connection.
sridharsuresh Apr 1, 2010 at 12:46 pm
The update is awesome..
1. really like the cache enabled
2. also the font change feature..
3. @ mentions do not load every time.. the older tweets remain on the screen
4. definitely as fast as the other twitter apps
Hope they release this app soon with more features like tabs for lists, and push mentions ( notifications for mentions are available with this update which is good )
i have been using SocialScope for more than 5 months.. logged off SS after a long long time.. will use this one for sometime.
steve17360 Apr 1, 2010 at 12:51 pm
Download for 5.0 keeps failing for me.....
LeisThatGirl Apr 1, 2010 at 12:58 pm
Are you using the desktop manger?
757EliasHZ Apr 1, 2010 at 1:02 pm
my 8900. I've been trying to install over the air.
LeisThatGirl Apr 1, 2010 at 1:12 pm
on my tour 9630..makes no sense??
InpherKnow Apr 1, 2010 at 12:56 pm
This app needs integration for @ suggestionsfor bit.ly or tinyurl, tweetphoto, and twitlonger. Also, not being able to edit retweets is lame. The UI is nice though.
lungtas Apr 1, 2010 at 12:56 pm
When I travel , I don't want my app to work in the background because of roaming fees. How can I do that ? Can it be done ?
jkpitcher Apr 1, 2010 at 12:56 pm
Since updating to the official Tour OS from Verizon my UT has not been letting me know when I have new tweets. It used to vibrate and flash the LED. Now nothing. Went through every setting on the phone and still nothing. UT is now deleted and using T4BB and love it. Clean simple and fast.
tidebuzz Apr 1, 2010 at 2:04 pm
Just set it to not automatically refresh.
elgrant Apr 1, 2010 at 1:00 pm
How come every application but this one allows for editing and commenting on Retweets? Which is why I hate using twitter.com.
stoneland Apr 1, 2010 at 1:08 pm
Obviously, it won't have what the website doesn't have.
LeisThatGirl Apr 1, 2010 at 1:16 pm
Can anyone help? tried installing thru d/m and it says its not compatible w/ my device & I tried to install thru my sd card and it said missin file?? I have a tour 9630 running on a os 5.0?? Am I missing something??
Thx in advance?
FearRoo55 Apr 1, 2010 at 1:35 pm
use that web address and but into bb browser and it downloads fine!!! great app
LeisThatGirl Apr 1, 2010 at 2:03 pm
ERROR 500 Internal server error??
LeisThatGirl Apr 1, 2010 at 2:21 pm
Had to install version, Twitter by RIM v1.0.0.28 Beta
but, I got it!
Beezzy Apr 1, 2010 at 1:22 pm
It's so much faster and sleek! I'm loving this official Twitter client!
Lovesherbb1915 Apr 1, 2010 at 1:30 pm
So far, I'm liking the leaked version. It's better than before, for sure, but I'm still going to be using UberTwitter as my main Twitter app. =/
jewelz34 Apr 1, 2010 at 1:38 pm
how do you retweet. i see the option and its not allowing me to do it.
xgm541 Apr 1, 2010 at 1:39 pm
the download gives me a 404 error. Anyone else?
Username00089 Apr 1, 2010 at 1:39 pm
Much more screen real estate with the options of shrinking
tweet fonts and eliminating the update box and navigation bar. Has a very clean look to it.
mpaquette Apr 1, 2010 at 1:41 pm
I don't really tweet, just mainly use it to follow others. Having said that, I like this app. It's clean looking and seems to work well. It gets a "yes" from me.
wdfly Apr 1, 2010 at 1:56 pm
i'm getting a HTTP error 500 internal server error
jwhelan Apr 1, 2010 at 1:59 pm
When I click on a link in a tweet I get the option "Open in Opera Mini" Twice, and the option "Open Link" twice.
HeCareth Apr 1, 2010 at 2:00 pm
Seems like the COD files were coming straight from RIMS content server. http://content.blackberry.com/mobileapps/twitter/1.0.0.37/For_5.0.0/net_...
They put a stop to that fast. Anyone has the COD files?
bahandi Apr 1, 2010 at 2:04 pm
Has anyone already mentioned that they keep getting notified of "new" @replies only to realize they aren't new, just a refreshed page not recognized as being old?
It's getting a little annoying.
Loving the look and feel of it, so far, though.
cocatholicdad Apr 1, 2010 at 2:07 pm
I like the changes a lot. It works much better now. BUT I can't seem to RT out of it. The RT interface comes up but when I hit send it never shows up in the timeline. Please fix this and allow people to edit the RT before sending.
stoneland Apr 1, 2010 at 2:21 pm
cocatholicdad, the RT feature DOES work. it isn't supposed to show up in the timeline (it doesn't on the website www.twitter.com either). and you can't edit RTs on the website, so it's no surprise that the feature isn't in the official twitter app.
when are people going to realize this? other apps like UT have that option because they're not the "official" one.
Username00089 Apr 1, 2010 at 2:22 pm
It still misses Tweets
D_Town Apr 1, 2010 at 2:25 pm
it has a clean interface with nice options. However, i have become bored with the RIM interface on FB, MySpace and now, Twitter. Its nice , but it still has those same scroll issues that make it so that you may or may not be able to read the last line of posts. (same issue with FB app)
Its pretty easy to use and is pretty smooth, BUT still not better than Ubertwitter to me.
hitman52 Apr 1, 2010 at 2:29 pm
The Retweet option should of been fixed when it was being made. Tweetgenius until RiM gets things together with this.
asu1996 Apr 1, 2010 at 2:43 pm
Is it possible to close this app or does it run in the background all the time? I see that you can check mark to automatically refresh and there are time options but I closed the app and was still getting alerts every 5 min which I have it set too. I don't want this running in the background when I close out.
lungtas Apr 9, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Here is the answer I got from the guys at BBHelp :
"The application will run in the background. ^SH"
I guess I'll delete the app :-( Too bad because it's great . I hope they will fix that issue . I also do not want it to run in the background.I would get huge bills when abroad...
kid108 Apr 1, 2010 at 2:45 pm
I'm loving this.
Vucko Apr 1, 2010 at 2:50 pm
I get "Twitter services are currently unavailable" :/
trtmazda3 Apr 1, 2010 at 3:00 pm
I sure hope this works better than Facebook for BlackBerry...
emanwis#cb Apr 1, 2010 at 3:13 pm
I really like UT's option of adding a location to each tweet. I don't see this available on the beta. Anyone know if this exists and I'm just missing it?
crbogart Apr 1, 2010 at 3:15 pm
This application seems great so far on my storm2. I would hope they add the following.
option to show posts youve retweeted
option to show someones timeline
option to use twit longer
stoneland Apr 1, 2010 at 3:47 pm
Just select their tweet and scroll to "Tweets". It'll bring up their timeline...
undermine Apr 1, 2010 at 3:19 pm
Do it people!
youngspider Apr 1, 2010 at 3:53 pm
App still got a long way to go. The @ mentions improved (I guess) although it was notifying me about mentions from ten hours ago. Hmmm
JiggaJenius Apr 1, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Add a friend picker so I don't have to memorize all the names, and let us add on to the retweets and maybe add twitlonger and I will leave uber!!!
stoneland Apr 1, 2010 at 4:02 pm
this app will probably not have that. Keep in mind this is Twitter for BlackBerry, not like UT. It'll obviously be tied to the twitter website. And twitter.com doesn't have editing of retweets (in case you haven't noticed) and doesn't have a twitlonger option (in case you haven't noticed that, either).
So until Twitter changes their site and how they allow updates, those features won't be in the app.
crystinonfire Apr 1, 2010 at 3:54 pm
I thought we were supposed to be able to change our profile? so far have not been able to do that... anyone had luck?
Linsey Apr 1, 2010 at 4:05 pm
Is it just me or does this app rock?!? I prefer this way over UberTwitter. Very clean and colorful look.
cokoblazin Apr 1, 2010 at 4:23 pm
So happy to get rid of Uber and its damn ads. Great app so far and I'm pretty sure it's only gonna get better.
D_Town Apr 1, 2010 at 5:23 pm
still prefer Uber. The ads don't bother me at all or interfere with my experience. Twitter for BB is nice, but so far, not for me.

Uber and all of the other twitter apps I have used. This one might actually be a home run.
crbogart Apr 1, 2010 at 5:29 pm
Everytime I open this app it says I have an @mention however they are all from days ago and i cant delete them...
mrnavigation Apr 1, 2010 at 6:17 pm
da moment i started da app i sed to myself...dis is much better than ubertwitter...i quickly deleted ubertwitter...twitter for blackberry lets me twitpic witout the IT policy problem
CrackBerryV79 Apr 1, 2010 at 6:43 pm
Any of the above-mentioned problems because I actually had an official invite from RIM to begin with... Who knows.
All I know is this app is near-final version-ready. I would love to see a TwitLonger and FriendPicker feature, but (again) these aren't official Twitter features, so I won't be heartbroken if they never materialize. Editing RTs is simple enough with copy & paste if you just have to add your two cents.
If you find yourself constantly using TwitLonger anyway #youredoingitwrong and #talkingtoodamnmuch
BlackWerks Apr 1, 2010 at 6:43 pm
but since when did social scope start doing a friend picker when u type the "@" symbol? uber does it but social scope has never done that for me.
as far as this twitter client...i like the look and feel of it....it lacks some of the "powertwitter" features of uber but for the casual tweeter its perfect.
@blacktrenchwerk follow me!!!
slsims Apr 1, 2010 at 6:50 pm
I was using UBERTWITTER. BB Twitter is faster and has a much cleaner look and navigates better. Also, I love how it features the twitpic very large and faster. They only thing I see that it needs is the ability to sign in to mulitple accounts. I have a personal and a professional twitter profile and it would be great to switch between both. Other than that! I'm sticking with the RIM twitter app!
supremeone95 Apr 1, 2010 at 7:02 pm

Just downloaded it, love it , it's fast and easy to use.

It looks at first like it may have had some issues but everything seem to be running fine right now. Smoooth!
rstevensjr Apr 1, 2010 at 8:21 pm
I have purchased ubertwitter but the new BBT is soooo good. Loving it!
mgiron7 Apr 1, 2010 at 9:09 pm
i installed the leaked beta today and i must say i'm impressed, the app is quick and nimble has a great layout and it just WORKS :] a few things i believe it needs is location-aware integration in tweets, also user profile pictures should be able to be enlarged seemlessly. also in the timeline there should be a caption under everyone's tweet displaying where the tweet was posted from: web, api, etc, and also a friend finder would be nice
Grimagination Apr 1, 2010 at 9:24 pm
Liking it so far and sticking with it. Pros: It’s very quick and doesn’t have the battery drain of Uber. It has a friendlier layout, no ads, ability to modify profile and you can save searches. Cons: I’m not wild about the green highlight color scheme and it doesn’t autopopulate with @. There’s no friends listing and I’ve not found a way to fully close the app. All in all, it’s a great beta though and already a very solid UT competitor. With a few updates, it’ll really take off.
crystinonfire Apr 2, 2010 at 3:40 am
how are you modifying your profile??? mine has no options to modify/edit/change/alter, etc.
littlemin Apr 1, 2010 at 10:16 pm
Was so excited to download it but turned my 8900 v.4.6 into a brick!
Phartsy Apr 2, 2010 at 12:05 am
-Mentions need to be pushed to inbox. It's able to in this version but all it says is "you have new mentions". I'd like to actually see the mentions as a conversation.
-Direct messages need to act like text messages(for us 5.0 users) and look as if it's a conversation.
-FRIEND SUGGESTION! I can't remember all of my friends exact names plus they change them once a month.
madmax7776 Apr 2, 2010 at 3:04 am
No option to add location to tweets?
4fahrenheit Apr 2, 2010 at 3:57 am
over all i enjoy the layout and functionality of the new twitter program but there are a few features i think it is missing...
-the option to modify a retweet
-more setup options like disabling location tags
-a user list that can pop up when you go to @ or dm someone
-the option to accept/decline follow requests if your tweets are protected
for now i still prefer ubertwitter but its a good start. will be running both on my bb tour, and see what changes are made as you work towards an official release.
scottd09 Apr 2, 2010 at 4:37 am
It seems to stop displaying the text I write after I mention two people on my 9700. For example, "@Twitter for @BlackBerry is great" would only show "@Twitter for @B" but it continues to write and sends the whole tweet if I update. The menu seems to be unresponsive when this happens as well. Anyone else able to recreate this bug? It also gives you two "Are yo sure you want to cancel?" windows, one in the Twitter app and one from the OS it seems.
computman Apr 2, 2010 at 5:26 am
The screencap is the old one ... lol I can't show the lists on your cap :(
gniko21 Apr 2, 2010 at 7:53 am
I like it, a lot. Nice, clean look. Fast. I was a happy UberTwitter user previously. But I think I'm liking this better. One little complaint/request. With UberTwitter, I was able to close (not exit) out of the application then access it quickly by pressing & holding down the menu key to access apps that are still open. I wish I had the capability to do that with this app.
RV_Hans Apr 2, 2010 at 9:11 am
Why is it when I hit the link for 5.0 it sends me to another page and loops back to the same page I have to hit the link for? *confused* I cant just seem to select 5.0 and for it to download like it would normally?
jfriend33 Apr 2, 2010 at 10:43 am
uhh why is there no latest release for 5.0 english users??? wtf....
cococoot#cb Apr 2, 2010 at 1:09 pm
The speed of this app blows UT out of the water and has all the basic and some of the advanced features UT has. For the "light" and "moderate" twitter user this is a must have. For the advanced twitter user this is an almost must have. Love this more then UT. Nice work RIM.
gniko21 Apr 2, 2010 at 2:15 pm
just realized it doesn't offer the option to copy tweets like Ubertwitter does...I miss that
rfalter Apr 2, 2010 at 8:03 pm
Why is this shown as 'official Twitter for BB' when it isn't a RIM product. Has RIM endorsed it?
DarshOne Apr 2, 2010 at 9:24 pm
it clearly states it been leaked.

loved ubertwitter. but im really likin this new one by RIM
porkchopian Apr 3, 2010 at 9:01 am
I was using Ubertwitter before and it killed mt battery.
This upgraded version of Twitter for BlackBerry is almost perfect. Looks good, it's fast and has added the lists option. I think if it adds being able to view pictures that are uploaded from most popular sites it will be complete.
The integration into the BlackBerry OS makes this application work great!

Has anyone found the latest version (1.0.0.37) for OS 4.5?
charmedtrini Apr 3, 2010 at 11:14 am
i like the intergration of the twitter ap by rim but there are a few issues that i have yet to overcome. 1st problem is the inability to edit retweets like ubertwitter. other than that all the new and improved features of beta 1.0.0.37 seems to have fixed all the previous issues in the vesion before.
Nic Allen Apr 3, 2010 at 11:16 am
I like the idea of it, but it constantly shows that i have a notification when i dont and its only showing tweets from like 10 hours ago, even after i refresh and it shows the newest tweets if i close it and then open it back up they all vanish and im back to looking at tweets from 10-15 hours ago.
xKarlaCruz Apr 3, 2010 at 11:19 am
I'm really interested in the link for OS 4.5 please! I love this app.
xKarlaCruz Apr 3, 2010 at 1:16 pm
Link for OS 4.5 version, anyone?

To be useful, it has to be quicker then 5 minutes. The every 1 minute refresh is the only way to go. 5 minutes is a eternity on twitter.

Okay. I've deleted UberTwitter and Twiextreme. Both were good, but this is so integrated with the push feature that I'm loving it. It's like the Facebook and Myspace apps, you can be out of the program, but still get the new notifications. I'm telling you, if Blackberry could just get their UI overall tweaked, then they'd be set.
Also, I would like the Facebook app and Myspace app to have the smooth scrolling this one does. It's almost like the kinetic scrolling seen on touch screens.

I downloaded the software 5.0.0 to my desktop but I cannot figure out how to get it onto my Bold

I keep getting these dumb @mentions when I don't have any? Okayy
sunny_fly Apr 4, 2010 at 6:22 pm
my friend and i both downloaded the twitter beta v1.0.0.28 and we loved it, i installed it on my bb 8330m, but when i tried to access it, it said that twitter services where not available yet. so what does that mean. i tried the 1.0.0.37 but the .cod files are not available. does anyone have them?
fesa353 Apr 5, 2010 at 1:14 am
can someone pls!pls!pls! help me.installed to my S2 but didnt work..Batt pull done..still no luck!
cemotyz09 Apr 5, 2010 at 5:52 pm
Unless someone knows (confirms) it works on storm models I don't think it will because shouldn't it have a storm specific link instead of just OS specific
decarlo4#CB Apr 7, 2010 at 5:45 am
I have a S2 and it works on my device. So far no glitches. The Twitter alert notification only appears when I have a new notification. I like the fact that it isn't bogged down with numbers like some alerts and I can set how often I want it to refresh. I'm just a casual Twitter user so this works for what I need it for.
monkeykat Apr 7, 2010 at 3:19 am
when I have a tweet selected (highlighted) and I refresh it goes to the newest tweet. So I loose my place and have to scroll down to find where I left off. Also if the tweet contains a picture I have click on the link and go to it. In ubertwitter it appears in the window. If
lungtas Apr 10, 2010 at 6:19 am
...you could shut down the app completely without having to logout as the guys at BBHelp old me to do ! They actually told me everything and the opposite...
I guess I'll just delete the app when I travel and download it back when I get home ... just to be on the safe side and not run a huge roaming bill .
Viigo has that option and I wish twitter would do the same.
BlackB_G May 3, 2010 at 10:35 am
Just had a brainwave guys so let me share my new found knowledge. Retweeting with the option to Edit on the T4BB is so easy.. and i think it beats copy and paste method.
1) When on a tweet u wanna re-tweet click on options like u normally would but instead of selecting "re-tweet".. select "Send To"
2) Select "Twitter"
3) Select "Tweet"
4) You'd have to type in the "RT" and the persons "@username" whose tweet you're re-tweeting.
5) you can also now type in whatever you wanna add in..
6)click on update
I realise it looks not as quick as just selecting the standard "re-tweet" but in actual use it is more or less. In addition this shows up in your timeline too just like Ubertwitter. Only difference is Ubertwitter (since its not an official app).. can do what it wants and call it a re-tweet.
All it's really done is copied the tweet and pasted it in as a new tweet but then putting in the "RT" and the @username of the original tweeter. Thats exactly what the "Send to" option on the official app does (but without the RT and "@username" which is obviously not an issue as u do intend on editing the original tweet anyway. RIM obviously did have it in mind and knew we would want it but had to stick to Twitter's specifications being the Official app.
All i need now is Geotagging enabled and Ubertwitter will get deleted.
