Traffic - Images of the new RIM built application appear online

For some folks who are making use of the BlackBerry Beta Zone, you can now download a new Research In Motion designed application called Traffic if you are eligible. Pics of the application leaked out shortly after the announcement, as you can see above. Traffic is an app which helps you determine a few things while you are driving. One of them being when exactly you will reach your destination, sharing your location with others and your ETA and it also helps you find things that may be near by. Need to find a restaurant or gas station? Traffic can help. Or if you just simply need a map routed out for you, Traffic can do that as well.
The funny thing about this new application is that well, it's not really all that new. If you are a person who often sorts through OS files on your PC you may have noticed the files for adding traffic have been there for quite some time. Which, could very well explain the looks of the app. It looks kind of dated and we hope that it will see a slight revamp before its release. For the sake of comparison, Traffic is similar to that of Telenavs OnMyWay application in some ways. What does everyone think? Is Traffic something you would use? More pics available after the jump. You can also read more in the forums, where this was posted.

Hey Blaze ,
Do you think this could the start of the long awaited dash navigation app for the BB . We haven't heard anthing in months.
Bla1ze Jun 25, 2010 at 7:58 pm
Yeah...I've got a feeling there is A LOT going on with DASH that we do not know about yet. "BlackBerry Drive", all the stuff with the QNX purchase...there is a LOT of things that we've yet to be able to confirm but have heard rumors of.
There is most recently, even some stuff happening with the now defunct Viigo that is making it's way into 6 aside from all the RSS feeds and other normal Viigo additions. Just..not sure what exactly. Yet... ;)

Rumors eh . Rumors like what. Well you open the bag now might as leave the cats out. Tell all man.
Can you delete the duplicates below Blaze . Thx man

I think RIM are catching up quicker than we think . Buying big companies like you said and taking the time to do it right . Instead rushing it all out like with the brilliant storm 1 . I think we could see some massive changes in the next few weeks or months hopefully .
I will start praying all the Gods and give the pyshic a ring too lol.
devGOD Jun 26, 2010 at 9:58 am
Uhh I'd bet my "life" that we won't see anything massive in change from RIM in the upcoming weeks or month. I'll even go as for as to say this year. RIM wants you to think more is coming when its really not, just to keep you around a bit longer.

work needs revamp though it has features but doesn't look pleasing to the eye like some of these other apps..
cbresciani Jun 25, 2010 at 10:19 pm
simplistic look, easy to read with the information you want.

How about a turn by turn navigation app? How about a webkit browser? How about a better Facebook app?

Put the phones down and concentrate on safely piloting your vehicles.

there's no fun in that ^^

check the directories on your device. You will find a new Dash directory added, and IMO this is a great app IF they increase the server speed. To slow to react if you miss a turn but best non-voice app I have seen.
Blkbear Jun 25, 2010 at 8:53 pm
If this doesn't have voice turn by turn nav, then it's going to be hard to read most BB screens when traffic is heavy, or traveling in a busy city/town, while already looking for addresses and landmarks while driving.
And for me anyway, I'd do better to study Google map driving directions, before I started a trip. Or go low tech and use a paper map or printed directions I can see easily. That or hire someone to relay non voice turn by turn directions from my BB.

I much prefer the Real Time traffic on my TomTom. Not only will it warn you, but it will give you alternate routes.
JusticeCalibur Jun 25, 2010 at 9:40 pm
I myself also prefer my TomTom but for those who don't have one or GPS devices, this is a good start.
I still say they need a lot of work compare to google map mobile
DustoMan Jun 25, 2010 at 9:43 pm
:cries DASH! You're getting turned off at the end of the month and I miss you already!
Connor83 Jun 25, 2010 at 10:51 pm
Yeah I have this app. But I'm not sure what use it gives me. It seems to me that it would only help in rare times that there is unexpected traffic. There are other apps that tell you how long it's gonna take. Everyone know when rush hour is and can plan on it. So I'll just stick to Telenav. But I will further use this app just to see what all it can do and inform them for improvements.

Was asked to beta test for this as well. Nice design, not very practical. It always chooses the worst route possible. But when there is traffic it is very specific about the incident or when construction is suppose to be finished.

Wooooooo! (in the style of Ric Flair)

r0cketman22 breaks the terms of the Beta Zone program. Then brags about it and is brain damaged enough to post his pin. Genius.

RIM loves me.

google maps seems good enough for me.
It gives the ETA but I do wish it would update how many miles are left as well.
The one thing I would like to have is to know the current speed limit. They seem to be getting skimping with the signs so half the time I don't know what the limit is.
does this app have the current speed limit?
cletis Jun 26, 2010 at 11:18 am
To address yr question srsly, though, there would need to be a national/international/public database of speed limits indexed by GPS location for this to happen. I suppose this sort of thing might be put together in the future on a municipality-by-municipality basis, but what would drive it to happen?
SteveO86 Jun 26, 2010 at 9:35 am
So is this going to replace the Maps application?
speedyV Jun 27, 2010 at 12:15 am
It's not really any map. Just what you see in the picture a information application solely to tell you about traffic. Google maps can also display traffic but the information about incidents and construction is very specific in this app.
hrg0891 Jun 27, 2010 at 10:21 am
It's because of people like you that we can't have nice stuff. Why do you think RIM was so hesitant to release the BetaZone?
r0cketman22 Jun 27, 2010 at 7:31 pm
RIM wants/needs positive feedback and/or constructive criticism.
I bet more people signed up for Beta Zone after seeing this. Which is why I did it. I want MORE Beta Zone subscribers. A greater subscriber base will increase frequency in released and updated apps.
I was thinking of doing a YouTube video, but didn't want to take any attention away from these "CrackBerry Idol" finalists.

Cool app I am defiantly going to try it out. And Sticky Rice Really!!! man thats literally 3 blocks from me. A Great place to go. Kind of bugged me out this site is huge. To see a Richmond location in the Fan is pretty cool. Any one who comes through Richmond should try it out.

I remember before I got my 9000 (I have 9700 currently) I had a Nokia N95 and I had hacked it to get free GPS, this was before they gave it out for free. That phone would have all the Speed cameras loaded onto the device along with the maps of course and would warn me if I was going to drive past a speed camera whist over the limit. This was 2+ years ago, RIM need to pull something out fast.
